Suns reportedly wanted 2017 Eurocup MVP Shved to run the show this season

Rumor has it the Suns wanted Euro star and former NBA player Alexey Shved to run the show next to Devin Booker next season. After passing on one Euroleague champion at the top of the NBA Draft this summer, the Phoenix Suns were reportedly interested in signing a different one. According to reports, the Suns were one of four teams that tried to bring 2017 Eurocup Most Valuable Player Alexey Shved, a 6’6” combo guard, to the desert from Khimki Moscow. Shved was also MVP of the Russian league, VTB United, for the 2016-17 season. Alexey Shved turned down offers from Pelicans,...

Locked On Suns Monday: Positional Preview Part One - The Guards

We go through the disappointing crop of backcourt players who will vie for time in the Suns’ rotation this season around Devin Booker. On today’s episode, we begin our Positional Preview series, beginning with the guard rotation. What can we expect from Elie Okobo as a rookie backing up Brandon Knight? Could his quick development eliminate the Suns’ desire to trade for a star point guard? How do the Suns handle the backup two-guard slot? Will it be a matter of the young wings on their roster sliding up a position, or will someone like Davon Reed get consistent time as a pure backup...

Can Trevor Ariza really play power forward this year for the Suns?

Can Trevor Ariza really play power forward this year for the Suns?

We know he WILL play power forward this year a lot, but CAN he do it well? After all the summer moves, one stands out like the sorest of sore thumbs. In need of a veteran starting-caliber power forward to help solidify a young core of 20-21 year olds SF Josh Jackson, C Deandre Ayton and SG Devin Booker, the Suns went out and got Trevor Ariza from the Houston Rockets. Ariza fits the bill as a veteran (15 seasons), as a starter (full-time starter 8 of last 9 seasons) and as a winner (9 of 15 seasons, including the last 5). He’s never been a #1 option, never an All-Star, and never a top-paid...

Nets’ D’Angelo Russell likely to hit restricted free agency next summer

D’Angelo Russell has been patiently awaiting an extension to his rookie contract, much like draftmate Devin Booker got with the Phoenix Suns with his five-year, $158 million deal. But according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, it’s unlikely the Brooklyn Nets give it to him this summer. The point guard will likely go […] The post Nets’ D’Angelo Russell likely to hit restricted free agency next summer appeared first on ClutchPoints.

Phoenix Suns: 3 reasons Devin Booker’s extension was a no-brainer

How many wins do the Suns need by the New Year to avoid tanking again?

How many wins do the Suns need by the New Year to avoid tanking again?

Reasonably speaking, the Suns need to improve. But if they don’t, how long can they wait before they decide to play for draft picks again? Phoenix Suns fans are tired of the abject losing. We are tired of the Suns’ management and ownership team trying to lose games. They’ve been obvious about the plan, to everyone from fans to players to coaches, ever since cornerstone player Devin Booker emerged. But we’re tired. So very tired. 2017-18: Lost Knight for season, traded Eric Bledsoe for a draft pick; Lost 32 of 36 games in one second-half stretch, clinching the league’s worst...

How soon can Devin Booker be an ‘NBA 2K’ cover athlete?

How soon can Devin Booker be an ‘NBA 2K’ cover athlete?

The Phoenix Suns have a spotty track record when it comes to headlining video games August is the month where motivation goes to die. It’s also the time of year when the league’s 30 front offices hold their collective breath for 31 days in the hopes their superstar doesn’t injure himself in some stupid pickup game. Really, that’s a pretty accurate summation of what’s happening across the NBA. But the lack of anything consequential does leave time for other things, like video games. NBA players and video games go together like peanut butter and video games. (I can’t stress the...
