Game thread: Rockets vs. Thunder - Game 4

The Rockets look to take a commanding series lead today in OKC. The Rockets take on the Thunder today in OKC for Game 4 of the first-round of the playoffs. Houston is up 2-1, but have yet to really play a complete game. I’d like to see one from them today to take command of the series, because going back to H-town with a series tie would be a huge letdown after initially going up 2-0. The Rockets need some shooting from Trevor Ariza, Eric Gordon and Patrick Beverley to complement James Harden’s individual brilliance. The Beard currently leads the NBA in playoff scoring, but we’re...

Eric Gordon, Lou Williams show why they’re Houston’s key weapons

The two bench studs swung Game 2 for the Rockets Forget beards. Forget wolverines. Don’t worry about a capella, triple doubles or kiwis. The heroes of Game 2 of Houston’s first round series against the Thunder were the Bomber Bros: Lou Williams and Eric Gordon. Gordon and Williams exploded for 43 combined points on 16/28 shooting. Gordon’s 22 and Williams’ 21 off the bench ignited the flame the Rockets needed to come back from 15 points down in the fourth quarter to win, 115-111. Both guards sunk three treys, which accounted for over half of the Rockets’ three-point makes (11)....

Game thread: Rockets vs. Kings

Beard and Co. head to California’s capital to take on the Kings Yes, the outcome of this game does not affect the Rockets’ placement in the standings or their playoff matchup against the Thunder. Yes, the Rockets won’t be at full strength with Sam Dekker still out with a broken hand, Nene with hand soreness, and Trevor Ariza and Eric Gordon resting tonight Yes, the Kings are tanking, hoping their draft pick won’t get sent over to the Philadelphia 76ers. But, have no fear. There is some exciting stuff attached to this game. Troy Williams is starting, and he has the ability to do this...

Resting Rockets: Gordon, Ariza, Nene out vs. Kings

The Rockets are turning a new leaf. The Rockets are resting three of their key rotation players for this afternoon’s game vs. the Sacramento Kings. Trevor Ariza, Eric Gordon, and Nene will sit today vs. the Kings, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. Rockets will hold out Eric Gordon, Trevor Ariza, Nene today vs Kings. In addition to Gay, Richardson, Afflalo, Koufos, Tolliver out for Sac.— Jonathan Feigen (@Jonathan_Feigen) April 9, 2017 It was already presumed that Nene would sit due to a not-so-serious finger injury sustained in Friday’s loss vs. the Pistons,...

What if the Rockets signed Al Horford and Kent Bazemore instead?

What if the Rockets signed Al Horford and Kent Bazemore instead?

Would the Rockets still be the three seed? What if I told you Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon never joined the Houston Rockets? What if instead of the two sharpshooters, the Rockets instead picked up Al Horford and Kent Bazemore liked they originally planned. Would it all have turned out the same? The answer is no, not even close. One of the things that have made the Rockets what they are this season is James Harden having three shooters on the floor with him, along with a pick-and-roll big man. This combination has made the Rockets one of the hardest teams to stop on a night in and night...

Rockets start Eric Gordon on Sunday

Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon will start against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. What It Means: Forward/center Ryan Anderson (ankle) is likely going to miss around two weeks according to head coach Mike D'Antoni, so Gordon, Lou Williams and Sam Dekker are all looking at a bump in minutes. Gordon is averaging 12.8 points, 2.8 boards, 3.2 assists and 2.4 treys on 43.1 percent shooting over his last five games, and with four games on the schedule next week, his owners should be in great shape in terms of 3-pointers. Our algorithms project Gordon for 16.8 points,...

Ryan Anderson ankle injury: Rockets forward out two weeks

Ryan Anderson ankle injury: Rockets forward out two weeks

The Rockets’ key shooter has another ailment. Ryan Anderson, one of the Houston Rockets’ most important players and their second-most highly paid, will be out at least two weeks with a right ankle sprain, head coach Mike D’Antoni said Sunday. Eric Gordon will start in his place in the huge, ABC tilt against the Oklahoma City Thunder and will presumptively continue to do so in Anderson’s absence. D’Antoni will fully embrace a lineup with Trevor Ariza as the nominal power forward and the 6-foot-4 Gordon as the small forward. Anderson left Friday night’s game against the New...

Rockets rule out Ryan Anderson (ankle) for Sunday

Houston Rockets forward Ryan Anderson (sprained right ankle) has been ruled out of Sunday's game versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. What It Means: Andersons sprained his ankle on Friday and left after playing 29 minutes. The fact he has been ruled out so quickly for Sunday does not look good. The Rockets play again on Tuesday, consider Anderson questionable for that one as well. Eric Gordon entered the starting lineup the last time Anderson missed a game with Sam Dekker earning extra minutes. Anderson is averaging 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.8 three-pointers per game this...
