Mailbag: Matthews as 6th Man, Eric Gordon, Expensive Rosters

Blazersedge — Mailbag time! Dave, You said earlier that getting a center would improve the play of guys like Nicolas Batum and Wes Mathews. How much upside do you think they have? What potential lies untapped in the starting lineup? You must think there's some room, right? Bruce I do think a defensive-minded center would make Portland's starters look better. But that's less an assessment of individual ceiling and more an assessment of effect. I don't anticipate that Batum and Matthews will blossom into star-level players. I'm not sure they'll get that much better than they are now, though I'...

NBA Trade Rumors: Eric Gordon to the Clippers?

At The Hive — Bourbon Street Shots reported on Twitter yesterday that they'd "heard buzz" that an Eric Gordon/Robin Lopez for Eric Bledsoe/DeAndre Jordan trade could be in the works. I can't comment on the veracity of the rumor, and I'd treat as pure speculation for now. Still, it seems quite plausible that Gordon could be on the move, and so it's worth discussing (usnfish proposed a very, very similar trade in the comments yesterday). Three aspects of this trade would give me pause here. First, Jordan earns twice as much as Lopez while providing the same (or very arguably worse) value on offense, a...

Will Eric Gordon Be A Clipper Again?

Clips Nation — Remember, a few years ago, when the Clippers traded away their young star, Eric Gordon, as part of a package to acquire Chris Paul? It was so, so sad to see young EJ go to New Orleans, as many of us had dreamed that he would spend his whole career in Red, White, and Blue. At the end of the day, was really no question: Chris Paul was worth the package the Clippers traded for him and more. The two best seasons in franchise history since his acquisition would seem to be ample proof of that. Now, according to a new rumor on ESPN.com, there's a chance for the Clippers to get young Eric G...
