Game thread: Rockets vs 76ers

Houston battles Philly for the second time in a week. It’s rematch time for the Rockets and 76ers, since Philly is apparently one of only two teams Houston is allowed to play along with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Rockets get Eric Gordon back in action tonight, and not a moment too soon (both for Houston and for my fantasy team), while Nene is listed as a game-time decision. For Philly, Rocket killer J.J. Redick will not play, which means Dario Saric draws the start, according to Jonathan Feigen. J.J. Redick out for the Sixers vs. the Rockets tonight. Dario Saric starts.— Jonathan...

James Harden triple-double leads Rockets to easy win over the Hornets

An MVP performance and 26 points from a dominant Eric Gordon lifts the Rockets to 5-1. James Harden and Eric Gordon continue to stake their claim as the best backcourt in the NBA — with or without Chris Paul — in a comfortable 109-93 win. Harden had his first triple-double of the season, which means his MVP candidacy begins now! He had 27 points on 18 shots, 11 assists, 10 rebounds and stout defense once again. Eric Gordon ran the offense in the 11 minutes Harden was off the floor and was a +14, scoring 26 points and hitting 6/16 on three-pointers. Gordon popped off the screen once...

Hornets can’t overcome a barrage of 3’s, fall to the Rockets 109-93

Houston knocked down 22 3-pointers, and made shots during important stretches to keep Charlotte from making a comeback. Led by 27 points from James Harden, the Houston Rockets defeated the Charlotte Hornets 109-93. Kemba Walker led the Hornets with 26 points, going 4-for-6 from the 3-point line; while Dwight Howard finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds but shot just 5-for-15 from the free throw line. For the Rockets, Eric Gordon scored 26 points, while Ryan Anderson added 21. Both teams got off to a fast start. The Hornets held an early lead, but a trio of 3-pointers from Ryan Anderson...

Houston Rockets vs. Charlotte Hornets game preview

Dwight Howard is 2-0 against the Rockets since leaving Houston. That’s a decent storyline I guess. Much more important for Houston is their ability to sustain a decent winning percentage during this period of injury. Chris Paul and Trevor Ariza are out again, with Nene likely to follow them onto the DNP-injured brigade. The Rockets escaped Philadelphia with a win courtesy of some Eric Gordon heroics. Now they’ll need continued contributions from Clint Capela and Tarik Black down low and from the bench on offense. The loser in all four Hornets games so far scored under 95 points. If...

Sixers fall to Rockets despite T.J. McConnell's valiant effort

Eric Gordon connected on a buzzer-beating triple and foiled the Sixers guard's exceptional performance. The Philadelphia 76ers allowed Houston (4-1) to turn a 9-0 run into a 105-104 victory on guard Eric Gordon's game-winning three. Gordon was 4-of-15 before that made basket and generated enough space to square himself up for a optimal look. He finished with a game-high 29 points and Gordon's constant trips to the line (10-12 FT) aided his relatively missing stroke. Brett Brown mismanaged his Philadelphia's (1-4) crunch-time effort with three questionable plays: Embiid completely obsolete....

Eric Gordon hits game winner to down Sixers

Splash Gordon! Eric Gordon hit a buzzer beating corner three to beat the Philadelphia 76ers in a 105-104 victory. The game embodied a pendulum as it kept going back and forth, but the Rockets were able to come out on top in the end. Houston was without Trevor Ariza, Nene, and Chris Paul due to injuries but that did not seem to matter tonight. Eric Gordon, James Harden, and Clint Capela picked up the load and did just enough to beat Philadelphia. The Rockets were trailing for the entire second half, but brought it to within two points with less than 30 seconds after a James Harden lay-up was...

Rockets drop ugly one to Grizzlies for first defeat

Rockets drop ugly one to Grizzlies for first defeat

The Rockets collapsed in the fourth quarter in a loss to the Grizzlies. The Houston Rockets took their first loss of the season tonight, falling at home to the Memphis Grizzlies 98-90. The Rockets were victimized by some horribly inconsistent officiating, including a questionable offensive foul called on James Harden in the fourth quarter after running into Mario Chalmers. There were numerous other questionable calls, and there was also a giant middle finger from the fates, as a pass from James Harden to Eric Gordon late in the fourth hit an official and went out of bounds to the Grizzlies....

Rockets vs. Mavericks game thread

Home opener tonight! Maybe it isn’t the most important sports event going on in Houston tonight, but the Rockets try to go to 3-0. That’s pretty cool. Chris Paul is out, Eric Gordon starts in his place. Go Rockets. Go Astros. Go Houston.

NBA admits George Hill didn’t foul Eric Gordon

NBA admits George Hill didn’t foul Eric Gordon

What’s the point of a replay system that doesn’t overturn bad calls? I didn’t want to sully my recap of what was an exciting first game by spending a lot of time talking about one bad call. But now the NBA has come out with their Last Two Minute report from last night’s game and I’m back to being pissed off. For starters, the report clearly comes out and states that George Hill did not foul Eric Gordon. Anyone who watched the game knew that. Second, the official who is directly in front of the action clearly whistles the ball out of bounds as Kings ball, while the official who...

No Chris Paul, no problem: Houston beats Sacramento 105-100

Houston improves to 2-0 on the young season. It wasn’t pretty, but the Rockets cranked out another victory and spoiled the Sacramento home opener, beating the Kings 105-100 Wednesday night. Despite Chris Paul sitting with an ankle injury and a poor shooting night, the Rockets were resilient and found a way to win anyway. Eric Gordon got the start for CP3 tonight, and he was amazingly effective despite a rough three-point shot. He scored 25 points tonight and his +12 lead the team tonight. The team just looks better with Gordon out there. He’s another shot creator and takes a lot of...
