Davis expects to be ready for training camp

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Magic forward Glen Davis (foot) said he will be healthy for the start of training camp, the Boston Globe reports. Davis, who missed most of the season with a broken foot and sprained left shoulder, said he has also lost some weight. However, he added that he isn't sure if is in the Magic's long-term plans. “He has a decision to make,” Davis said of Orlando general manager Rob Hennigan. “I think the main thing is they want to win. Whatever it’s going to take them to win. Whatever decision he makes, that’s a hard decision. It could go both ways with a lot of things.”

Evaluating Glen Davis

Orlando Pinstriped Post — It took him six seasons, two teams, and three coaches, but in 2012/13, Glen Davis finally found a situation in which he could become a go-to offensive player. The LSU product opened the Orlando Magic's season as the team's co-captain, sharing those duties with Jameer Nelson, and celebrated his new on- and off-court responsibilities by jacking shots with a level of recklessness not often seen in bigs. Orlando’s Glen Davis is grateful for his time with the Celtics in helping him lead the youthful Orlando Magic

Boston GlobeGlen Davis is one of the veteran voices on a painfully young Magic team. Assigned the title of co-captain before the season, he has handled the responsibility admirably. After four successful seasons with the Celtics, and a solid first season with the Magic after being acquired for Brandon Bass, Davis will be home during the NBA postseason for the first time in his career. Davis was unquestionably the Celtics’ whipping boy during the team’s 2008 title season. A green rookie, Davis was ridden hard by teammates Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, and especially by coach Doc Rivers. The unrelenting tr...

Davis trying to shed "big" label

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Magic forward Glen Davis has been unable to play since late January after fracturing his left foot, but he has not let himself go while staying off the foot. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Davis is thinner than he has been since joining the team, and he is making a concerted effort to drop weight after suffering a season-ending foot injury. "I'm just being cautious, because I'm a heavy dude trying to get light," he said. "[With] the pressure on my foot, I'm just trying to make sure that I don't add any more pressure and try to get as slim as possible." Davis is not sure how much weight he ...

Halftime Report: Knicks 51, Magic 46

Knicks Blog | ESPN New York — Playing without starters Hedo Turkoglu (suspension), Glen Davis (fractured left foot) and Nikola Vucevic (illness), the 18-50 Magic were even more short-handed than the Knicks on Wednesday night. Worse for the Magic, Carmelo Anthony was back from a right hamstring injury. His seven points on 3-for-6 shooting helped the Knicks get off to a 26-15 first-quarter start. From there, the Knicks took control of the first half. Here are three main observations at the half: 1.

List of worst NBA contracts reflects poorly on Otis Smith, Magic

Orlando Pinstriped Post — Otis Smith's tenure as the Orlando Magic's president of basketball operations ended in May when he and the team mutually agreed to part ways, but Bill Simmons' list of the league's worst contracts, posted Friday at Grantland, serves as a reminder of some of Smith's missteps. Among the contracts Simmons selected, Smith is responsible for those of Jason Richardson, Glen Davis, and Rashard Lewis. He later traded Lewis for Gilbert Arenas, another player on Simmons' list, on whom he would ultimately use the amnesty provision to waive after a half-season with the Magic. He also traded for H...

Magic rookie Kyle O'Quinn rewarding coach Jacque Vaughn's faith in him

Orlando Pinstriped Post — When word Kyle O'Quinn began his rookie season, he didn't have much of a role. The Orlando Magic used the 49th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft on the big man from Norfolk State, but had Glen Davis, Nikola Vucevic, Gustavo Ayón, fellow rookie Andrew Nicholson, and Josh McRoberts ahead of him on the depth chart. As a result, O'Quinn only played in low-leverage situations, with the game's outcome not in doubt. Fast forward to the end of January and O'Quinn secured a larger role with the club. An injury to Davis and McRoberts' inconsistency gave him an opportunity, and the opportunity ...

  • Despite Glen Davis injury, Andrew Nicholson not getting many minutes for Magic
The playoffs are no longer a realistic target for the Orlando Magic, who've lost 21 of their last 23 games to dip into a tie for 13th place in the Eastern Conference. With the postseason out of reach for their team, Magic fans have turned their eyes toward NBA Draft prospects, as well as the state of Orlando's current crop of youngsters. The idea now is to focus on the Magic's future core. Andrew Nicholson, the 19th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, is one such core piece. The four-year player from St. Bonaventure came highly touted for his refined low-post offense and reliable jump...

The Orlando Magic were 10-point underdogs against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, with starters Glen Davis, Arron Afflalo, and Jameer Nelson all missing the game due to injury. This would give the young players for the Magic significant playing time, and Maurice Harkless, starting for Afflalo, took advantage with the best game of his rookie season, scoring 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting along with 14 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block, and 0 turnovers in 42 minutes. But the Bucks prevailed by a 107-98 final. Orlando was impressive on the boards, outrebounding Milwaukee 52-42, including grabbi...
