Celtics fall to Rajon Rondo and the Lakers, Eastern Conference loads up at trade deadline - Garden Report Podcast

Chris and Nick recap Thursday’s loss to the Lakers and Boston’s successful trade deadline. It was throwback Thursday at TD Garden last night, as Rajon Rondo, LeBron James, and the Los Angeles Lakers dropped the Celtics in front of Kevin Garnett and Metta World Peace. Despite the wild loss, Boston did have a successful trade deadline, shipping off Jabari Bird, freeing up a roster spot, and now getting their shot at Anthony Davis this summer. Where does Danny Ainge go from here when attacking the buyout market, and how does that impact a potential Davis deal this summer? Chris and Nick...

Rajon Rondo, Anthony Davis and 8 other takeaways from the trade deadline and Celtics/Lakers

Boston may have won and lost both on and off the court on a busy trade deadline day 1. It was a day of ups and downs for the Celtics. Instead of our traditional takeaways where we focus on the game itself, we’re going to take a bigger picture look of where things stand for Boston as a whole post-trade deadline, with some thoughts on the game at the end. 2. The day started with Danny Ainge and Boston unlikely to do much themselves on the trade deadline, but with eyes on other happenings around the league. The Celtics made only a minor trade. Boston moved on from Jabari Bird, who...

Evaluating potential buyout targets for the Boston Celtics

Evaluating potential buyout targets for the Boston Celtics

With the buyout market developing, who are the best candidates for the Celtics’ open roster spot? The trade deadline has come and gone, and, as expected, the Celtics largely stood pat, opting only to move Jabari Bird from the roster in a trade to the Atlanta Hawks (who will waive him). As the dust settles and NBA teams sort through their spoils, we now shift into contract buyout season, and this is where the Celtics will do their work. The Bird trade affords them an open 15th roster spot and they’re expected to use it; CelticsBlog’s own Keith Smith reports that they intend to bring...

Hawks acquire, waive Jabari Bird

Hawks acquire, waive Jabari Bird

It was a (very) quiet trade deadline for the Atlanta Hawks. The team did make two trades, however, with one sending Tyler Dorsey to Memphis in exchange for Shelvin Mack (who was then waived) and another acquiring Jabari Bird (albeit briefly) from the Boston Celtics. Bird was acquired, along with cash considerations, and immediately waived by the Hawks. In conjunction, the Hawks also parted ways with Daniel Hamilton. The decision to sharply cut ties with Bird comes as no surprise given the fact that the Celtics were very publicly attempting to shed the Bird from their payroll in light of...

Report: don’t look for Celtics to be active before trade deadline

It’s all quiet on the trade deadline front and depending on how you see the Celtics who have now won ten of their last eleven games, that’s good news. And per The Herald’s Steve Bulpett, Danny Ainge could wait until the buyout market to fill a roster spot: But according to teams that have spoken to them, the Celts may be looking more at players around the edges, rather than at more significant deals, as Thursday’s trade deadline approaches. In fact, they could be more active in the buyout market later, if, as most anticipate, a roster spot will become free when the Jabari Bird...

Both charges stem from the same September incident.
