Jared Dudley sees brighter future with Phoenix Suns

Jared Dudley sees brighter future with Phoenix Suns

His end-of-year team building recommendations this time are quite different than they were in 2013. Free agent pickup Jared Dudley had an interesting year. The aging (31!) year old small forward signed on for his second stint with the Phoenix Suns knowing there wouldn’t be any playoffs on the immediate horizon, and that he would hand off his minutes to younger players sooner than later. His realistic expectations made a roller coaster year easier to accept than when he experienced being the odd man out in a similar attempt at a Suns youth movement four years ago after the loss of Steve...

Phoenix Suns get royally flushed by the Sacramento Kings, 129-104

OK, we’re done here. On to the lottery. It is done. It is over. The tank is going into the shop for at least 6 months. The Phoenix Suns held out six players (Eric Bledsoe, Devin Booker, Brandon Knight, Tyson Chandler, Leandro Barbosa, Jared Dudley). The other nine guys may as well have taken the night off too. Sure, they got within 11 points in the fourth quarter, but that lasted all of a minute. The next thing you knew, Ty Lawson (TY LAWSON!) had a triple-double, the lead was back up to 20, and the Suns’ 58th loss was in the books. This time by a score of 129-104. The best thing...

Final Score: Suns lose to Warriors, 120-111

The Suns once again got down 20+ in the first half (23 after one), cut it to a possession or two (several times in the 4th), then lost in the final minutes when the better team executed. Very respectable. Golden State beat the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, 120-111. Tyler Ulis had 20 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds for the Suns, while Devin Booker struggled to 21/5/3. Booker just didn’t have the juice on this night. Jared Dudley had a season high 19 points, plus 6 assists and 7 rebounds in a yeoman’s effort to help the Suns get back in the game. Stephen Curry finished with 42 points...

Morning tip: A free-agent bargain for Wizards, Jason Smith turns into game-changer, too

The answer to the Wizards prayers came in Jason Smith, perhaps the most unlikliest of their offseason moves. They allowed Jared Dudley to leave in

Final Score: Suns take over 2nd in reverse standings

The Suns fought hard once again, but could not hold off the Rockets. The Phoenix Suns had a real chance to break their 10-game losing streak, with a game at home against a Rockets team missing their MVP candidate and two other rotation players. But the Suns were coming off a back-to-back of their own, and weren’t playing more than one veteran (Jared Dudley), so they just didn’t have it. A great sight to see was Dragan Bender putting up 9 points and grabbing 7 rebounds, along with 2 blocks, in 14 minutes in his return. Fellow rookie Derrick Jones Jr. had a very active 10 points and 8...

Phoenix Suns Profile of the Week: Veteran Leadership, featuring Jared Dudley

Phoenix Suns Profile of the Week: Veteran Leadership, featuring Jared Dudley

These guys might get embarrassed without Dudley around. Veteran guidance like that of Jared Dudley over the last month for the Phoenix Suns is the most vital and overlooked ingredient in a successful tank job. His performance keeping this team focused and competitive is the only thing making the shutdown decisions by upper management palatable. This will become clear soon enough, but let’s get one thing straight: Devin Booker is clearly the statistical, narrative and inspirational player of the week. When you become one of six players ever to reach a scoring threshold at only 20 years of...

Open Thread: Nine men dress versus desperate Atlanta Hawks

The Suns hope for the best in Atlanta. With Devin Booker out, that leaves only the starters (with Derrick Jones in Booker’s place), Jarrell Eddie, Alan Williams, Jared Dudley and Leandro Barbosa healthy to play tonight. Unfortunately for the Hawks, their situation isn’t much better. They are without Paul Millsap and Thabo Sefolosha, two of their best players. Tonight should be interesting, or something close to it. Let’s talk.
