Wolves at Pelicans: Tired Legs

Wolves at Pelicans: Tired Legs

Can the Wolves rebound after another tough loss? Minnesota Timberwolves (12-9) at New Orleans Pelicans (11-9)7:00 CSTFSN In what is becoming a somewhat familiar story, last night the Minnesota Timberwolves played a tough game against the Washington Wizards but were unable to hold onto victory, losing 92-89 after leading most of the game. Without Jeff Teague and Nemanja Bjelica, all of the starters had a positive plus-minus and all played over 37 minutes. The bench barely got any run and when they did it was disastrous. Now, after the home game last night, the Wolves had to travel to New...

Teammates Praise Tyus Jones After First NBA Start

Teammates Praise Tyus Jones After First NBA Start

With incumbent starter Jeff Teague sitting out for the second consecutive game nursing a sore right Achilles tendon, backup point guard Tyus Jones drew his first career NBA start. Two nights ago, head coach Tom Thibodeau inexplicably gave rarely used Aaron Brooks (16 total minutes entering the game) the start instead of the logical choice in Jones. Some people speculated that decision was meant to keep Jones in his normal role with the bench but after Miami raced to the quick 22-11 start, Jones took over the reins and finished with eight points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals in...

Timberwolves 119, Suns 108: Starting Unit Carries Wolves

Timberwolves 119, Suns 108: Starting Unit Carries Wolves

The Timberwolves received little help from the bench unit in Sunday’s 119-108 win over the Suns. The Minnesota Timberwolves bench unit was widely considered the worst in the NBA in 2016-17, and it was one of Tom Thibodeau’s top priorities in the offseason. The bench has improved slightly over last season, thanks in large part to the addition of Jamal Crawford and the improvement of Nemanja Bjelica. However, Minnesota does not have the depth to hold up in the event of an injury. That became clear on Sunday as the Wolves defeated the Suns 119-108 without Jeff Teague or Bjelica. Teague’s...

Hornets 118, Wolves 102: A Night to Forget

Hornets 118, Wolves 102: A Night to Forget

The Wolves fail to bounce back against the Charlotte Hornets. The Timberwolves played like they were on a road back-to-back tonight. The team was generally sluggish, with a back and forth first half giving way to a second half where the Wolves seemed like they were playing basketball in wet cement. Karl-Anthony Towns was quiet until the game was basically out of reach. Although Jimmy Butler had a relatively strong game, Andrew Wiggins was quiet and Taj Gibson was essentially non-existent. Jeff Teague, for his part, was up and down, but I don’t think even Teague belives it is a good idea...
