Bulls' chief flaw reappears in Game 1 loss

CHICAGO -- Jimmy Butler didn't have an answer to the question the Chicago Bulls needed to figure out most late in Sunday night's loss the Washington Wizards. The young swingman sat patiently in front of his locker trying to figure what had happened to his team's offense in the final 12 minutes of Game 1. Was it the ball movement, or lack thereof, that caused the Bulls to score just 18 points in the final frame? Was it a lack of confidence? "I don't know," Butler said.

Bulls, Wizards ready for Game 1

As far as Jimmy Butler is concerned, he's ready for some running. But his fast-paced mentality is more rooted in the defensive end than any fancy fast breaks as the Bulls and Wizards begin their first-round playoff matchup Sunday night at the United Center.

Butler still trying to make name for himself

CHICAGO -- Jimmy Butler's mindset regarding his NBA career is the same one the Chicago Bulls have adopted as a whole under Tom Thibodeau. They love the role of the underdog. The Bulls thrive off the notion that people have counted them out. For Butler, it's a mantra that has defined his career. The first-round pick out of Marquette flew under the radar throughout much of his college career, but has emerged has a top-tier defender in Thibodeau's system.

Bulls’ backcourt unwilling to take back seat to anyone

Very little throws Jimmy Butler off his game these days. Playing all 48 minutes? No problem. Locking up against LeBron James in crunch time? Another day on the job. But taking a compliment from teammate Kirk Hinrich? That’s when Butler starts to flinch. ‘‘Kirk didn’t mean that,’’ Butler said, smiling and shaking his head. ‘‘Kirk doesn’t ever give me any compliments, so no way he meant that.’’ He did. ‘‘I don’t care if our backcourt goes...

Emotion, energy keys to Bulls’ last 10 games

Bulls swingman Jimmy Butler is only in his third NBA season, but he’s well aware of what time of the year it is. With 10 regular-season games left and a playoff seed to grab, it’s time for the Bulls to flip the switch. ‘‘We are a team that’s built on emotion,’’ Butler said. ‘‘It’s huge for us. We do a lot of different things, but emotion goes into a lot of that. I feel like we’re a team that whenever we get riled up, get to that level, the game...
