Jimmy Butler's 32 points not enough vs Denver - Jimmy Butler (G/F) Chicago Bulls

Jimmy Butler set a new career high with 20 free throw attempts on Tuesday, making 18 of them to finish with 32 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in a loss to the Nuggets.

Fantasy basketball - Jimmy Butler thriving with Derrick Rose sidelined

In his Crossover column, Joe Kaiser looks at the Bulls' Jimmy Butler, who looks like he's supplanting Derrick Rose as their superstar.

Jimmy Butler rising with career-high night

CHICAGO -- In the midst of racking up a career-high 32 points, Jimmy Butler played so hard that one of the air pockets on his Air Jordans exploded during one point in Saturday night's 99-90 loss to the Indiana Pacers. While the points are a new high, the production has become the norm for Butler throughout the early part of this season. Once viewed as a defensive force and an offensive liability, Butler's transformation into a threat on both ends continues for a Bulls squad that looked lifeless throughout Saturday's game and would have been completely lost without Butler.

Jimmy Butler looks like a max player

This dude is playing out of his damn mind. So I'm going to have to drag this one out again: @McGrawDHBulls I spoke to an NBA executive the other day who said they would happily max Butler. Double checked and he wasn't joking. — Mark Deeks (@MarkDeeksNBA) July 2, 2014 It just seemed so crazy at the time. Butler, while an elite defender, was coming off a season that saw him shoot under 40 percent overall and under 30 percent from three-point range. Even if there were reasons to believe the horrendous shooting was an aberration, a max contract seemed outlandish. The Bulls and Butler...

Jimmy Butler might have made right call by nixing contract extension

Shooting guard Jimmy Butler’s decision Friday to turn down the Bulls’ take-it-or-leave-it final offer on a contract extension might be smarter than many realize. By becoming a restricted free agent in July, Butler not only can get a better idea of the market, but he also will be negotiating from a position of power — provided he stays healthy, of course — considering the shrinking pool of talent at his position. ‘‘It’s a great question, and you go...

Jimmy Butler’s offseason work manifesting itself early

They have cable and Internet service in Tomball, Texas — population 11,124. Just not at Jimmy Butler’s residence this past summer. “I just knew that if I’m out there in Houston and Tomball, it’s so boring to me that I didn’t have any choice but to go to the gym,’’ The Bulls guard said of his offseason mentality. “We didn’t have cable in my house, Internet, for that reason. Whenever I was bored, I was like, ‘Let’s go to the gym. Let’s go do...

Timberwolves Health Report: Thad Young Should Be Fine

Thad Young left last night's game against the Bulls after colliding with Jimmy Butler in pursuit of a loose ball and didn't return. Today's reports have him without problems going forward. Thad Young left last night's game against the Bulls in the 2nd quarter after a collision with Jimmy Butler and did not return. He took a shoulder to the head and appeared groggy afterward. The team reported that he suffered a strained neck, but according to reports today, he is fine and should be available for the Wolves next game on Wednesday. Speaking of the #Twolves: Thad Young is fine after that...

Butler's free throws lift Bulls over Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS – Jimmy Butler's surprise return to the Chicago Bulls' starting lineup should really come as no surprise at all.

Jimmy Butler is confident he will remain a Bull

MINNEAPOLIS — Jimmy Butler not only is “betting on himself.’’ He’s wagering that a new $24 billion television deal will keep him in Chicago. The Bulls guard and his agent, Happy Walters, walked away from a take-it-or-leave-it offer from the Bulls on Friday. Even with the deadline having passed and Butler officially becoming a restricted free agent in July, the former first-round pick was confident that the sides would reach a deal down the road. “People...

Bulls vs. Timberwolves final score: Jimmy Butler scores 24 in return, wins game at FT line

Down 1 with three seconds remaining, the Bulls went to Jimmy Butler as the go-to guy and he delivered as he did in his entire game, his first of the season: getting to the line. Butler hit FTs 10 and 11 on the night to get the Bulls the win, drawing rookie Andrew Wiggins in the air for a foul with .2 seconds remaining. Butler had 24 points on 12 shots in the 40 minutes (heh) of his return. Butler came out ultra-aggressive, and with the Bulls being without Derrick Rose, Butler really is one of the better candidates to try and create offense. And he did it in the way we've seen a lot of this...

Butler, Bulls still confident deal will be done

CHICAGO -- Jimmy Butler wants to stay in Chicago. The Bulls want Butler to stay in Chicago. So why did Friday night's deadline pass without an extension being reached on both sides? While neither party wanted to come out and say it, it sounds like one of the biggest reasons was because of the new $24 billion dollar television deal the league signed earlier this month with ESPN and Turner. Butler, and his agent, Happy Walters, believe he is worth more than the Bulls were offering.

Jimmy Butler rejects Bulls' 'final offer,' likely headed to restricted free agency

There's technically still time for the Bulls and Butler to reconvene, but the sides are done talking for now with the deadline only several hours away. It's looking like there won't be any last-minute contract extension for Jimmy Butler. The 25-year-old swingman has rejected the Bulls' "final offer" and plans to enter restricted free agency next summer, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. This comes straight from Butler: "It came down to me deciding that I want to bet on myself," Butler told Yahoo Sports in a text message on Friday. "It was about me believing that I put the...

Jimmy Butler extension 'unlikely' as deadline approaches, per reports

There's still a gap to bridge with Butler's extension deadline later tonight, although Taj Gibson was able to bridge that gap with his extension two years ago. Taj Gibson knows all about Jimmy Butler's situation. Two years ago, a Gibson extension looked unlikely heading into the Oct. 31 deadline before the big man inked a deal AFTER the Bulls beat the Kings, just beating the buzzer on the deadline. Could history repeat itself with Butler? Right now, the general consensus is that the Bulls and Butler won't get a deal done. K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reported two days ago that a...

Is Jimmy Butler worth $12 million a year?

CHICAGO -- The Jimmy Butler contract situation is one full of questions with no clear-cut answers. The biggest one being: How much money is Jimmy Butler worth? ESPN's Marc Stein reported Thursday night that Butler is one of several players from the 2011 class unlikely to receive extensions by Friday's deadline. Butler's worth is the question is at the forefront of the minds of Bulls general manager Gar Forman and executive vice president John Paxson.
