Hoops Hype
When Justin Anderson discusses the Philadelphia 76ers’ young core and their seemingly unlimited upside, he catches himself talking fast and getting excited. From the outside looking in, it’s easy for fans to get hyped up about Philly’s squad. Anderson gets even more pumped since he’s been in the gym with this group all summer, witnessing firsthand how great they can be if all goes as planned. Behind closed doors, he’s seen this team’s natural talent, intense work ethic, desire to be great and burgeoning chemistry. The days of tanking are over. Now, it’s time for the world to see...

The risk/reward of Joel Embiid makes Sixers unpredictable | David Murphy

They are a maddening team to project, these Sixers. Really, they are two different teams. The first one features a 7-foot-3, 275-pound rim protector with cotton-soft hands who averaged more points per 36 minutes last season than any rookie since Wilt Chamberlain. The second one doesn't.

Wizards vs. 76ers preview: Washington starts the 2017-18 season against 'The Process’

For the first time since 2011, the Wizards will open the season at home against Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers. Markelle Fultz, the number one pick in this year’s draft and a product of the DMV, will be making his NBA debut alongside last year’s top overall pick, Ben Simmons. The last time we saw the Wizards at home in the then Verizon Center, now the Capital One Arena; John Wall was standing on the scorer's table after hitting a game winner against the Celtics in one of the most memorable games in franchise history. John Wall and co. have gone on the record stating that...

Joel Embiid is Not a Fan of his Minutes Restriction

And he had some choice words about it. Yesterday Brett Brown announced that Joel Embiid’s minutes restriction (or guideline, or whatever) for tomorrow’s season opener would be somewhere in the teens. Embiid seemed caught off guard by this information and today I had to struggle to find a safe-for-work edit of his response to the decision: Embiid on restrictions-"That's f---ing BS.I wish I was playing more min.I think I'm ready for more than I don't know whatever no. they have"— Jessica Camerato (@JCameratoNBCS) October 17, 2017 Embiid went on to say that you have to trust the...

Joel Embiid Makes GQ

Joel Embiid Makes GQ

The November issue of GQ, covered by LeBron James, is out today. It contains the magazine’s list of the 50 greatest living athletes, including Dr. J and Allen Iverson. That section is followed by “The Ten Who’ll Be Next,” which is comprised of soccer’s Mallory Pugh, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Joel Embiid. Embiid not only makes the cut in those ten, but gets a full-page image in the issue’s table of contents. The “Ten Who’ll Be Next” isn’t on GQ’s website yet (though it has been delivered to digital devices), but we’ll drop a link in here when it is. On a separate...

Joel Embiid’s Starting Minutes Restirction Could be in the Teens

Lower than some expected, but not surprising. After sitting out practice yesterday and participating today - as Brett Brown predicted - Joel Embiid is set to play in Wednesday’s season opener against the Wizards. With a new contract extension and “he was healthy all along” narrative brewing under the surface, this isn’t shocking. We were just unsure of how much he’d play. Brown told reporters after practice that he expects Embiid’s minutes restriction to possibly be in the teens. Brett Brown says there’s no exact number he expects minutes wise from Embiid in game one. Said...

Clint Capela to become restricted free agent in 2018

The fourth-year player is entering the final year of his deal. Clint Capela will be entering restricted free agency after this season. He won’t sign a contract extension before the deadline, according to the Houston Chronicle. Tonight is the final night for the Class of 2014, fourth-year players, to sign contract extensions in order to avoid free agency this summer and remain with the squads that drafted them. Players like Andrew Wiggins (No. 1 pick) and Joel Embiid (No. 3) have recently signed supermax deals in the last couple days to stay with the Timberwolves and 76ers,...
