Pre-Game 5 Notes and Links

Posting and Toasting — Okay! Tonight will end with either a close to the 2012-2013 Knicks season or a new glimmer of hope for this disappointing series against the Pacers. Tip-off tonight is at 8 and there'll be a game thread up before then. For now, let's catch up on where things stand heading into tonight's game: - Kenyon Martin's right wrist is bothering him, but it doesn't sound like it'll limit his availability tonight. - On that note, Mike Woodson is expected to go back to his normal small lineup tonight. I approve this decision (or undoing of a previous bad decision) and hope he'll lean toward distrib...

New York PostKenyon Martin didn’t join his teammates in shooting practice Wednesday because of an apparent new wrist injury. Tuesday night in the visitor’s locker room in Indianapolis, Martin sported either a black soft cast or wrap on his right wrist. Martin, who also has the flu, was nowhere to...

Woodson says Knicks likely to put Prigioni back into starting lineup

Knicks Blog | New York Post — Charles Wenzelberg/New York PostPablo Prigioni on the bench during Game 4 -- where he spent much of the contest. Mike Woodson indicated he’s probably going back to smallball Thursday night in the Knicks' do-or-die Game 5 at the Garden, reinserting Pablo Prigioni into the starting lineup. For the first time, Woodson deviated and started Kenyon Martin at the power forward, shifting Carmelo Anthony to small forward. The big lineup of Melo-Martin-Chandler didn’t help their rebounding woes as the Pacers held a 54-36 bulge. VOTE: WHO IS THE KNICKS' PLAYOFF GOAT? The Knicks were 16-2 with ...

Bigger lineup backfires

Knicks Blog | ESPN New York — INDIANAPOLIS -- In an attempt to neutralize the Pacers size advantage, Mike Woodson went with a bigger starting five for Game 4. He inserted Kenyon Martin into the starting lineup and took out Pablo Prigioni. The bigger front line didn't produce the desired results. The Knicks were out rebounded, 54-36. Indiana had 16 offensive rebounds and 19 second-chance points. The Pacers outscored the Knicks, 36-26, in the paint. "Rebounding wise we got hammered on the boards again," Woodson said after the Knicks' Game 4 loss.

Knicks start K-Mart, move Pablo to bench

Knicks Blog | ESPN New York — INDIANAPOLIS -- After getting outrebounded in their two losses to Indiana, the Knicks will go with a bigger starting lineup in Game 4. Mike Woodson will start Raymond Felton and Iman Shumpert in the backcourt and Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin and Tyson Chandler on the front line. Pablo Prigioni will now come off the bench. The Knicks won 13 straight regular season games after inserting Prigioni into the starting lineup on March 18. But they have been outrebounded badly in two losses in this series, and that appears to be a more pressing concern for Woodson.

W2W4: Knicks at Pacers, Game 4

Knicks Blog | ESPN New York — Since the Knicks' Game 3 loss on Saturday, Tyson Chandler has expressed his displeasure with the team's offense, Kenyon Martin has come down with an illness, J.R. Smith still feels sick, and now Iman Shumpert is dealing with soreness in his surgically-repaired left knee. But the veteran Knicks have rallied when they've had roster issues before. They will need to do so more than ever in Game 4, because the Knicks have never come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a playoff series in franchise history.

The flu bros are ready for tonight, Iman Shumpert is uncertain.

Posting and Toasting — Knicks shootaround just happened in preparation for tonight's crucial Game 4 at Fielders Bank Lifehouse. There is good health news and there is murky/bad health news. The good news is that J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin a.k.a Team Influenza will play tonight and have not-- at least not yet-- infected other Knicks. Martin, for one, is still pretty sick, but he's ready to go nonetheless. We can also confirm that Martin and Smith are not bedfellows. The murky/bad news is that Iman Shumpert's "sore" left knee, which kept him out of practice yesterday for precautionary reasons, is causing mor...

Knicks Insider: J.R., K-Mart miss practice with flu-like symptoms

New York Daily News — Apparently, the Knicks spread germs better than they share the basketball. Kenyon Martin joined J.R. Smith on the sick list as the two players missed Sunday’s practice with the flu. Both are expected to be available for Game 4 on Tuesday.

Amar'e to continue limited role in Game 4

New York Daily NewsKenyon Martin joined J.R. Smith in sick bay Sunday, but that doesn’t mean anyone should expect Amar’e Stoudemire’s minutes to increase much Tuesday in his second game back from March knee surgery. Stoudemire was one of the Knicks’ few effective players at the offensive end in their 81-72 Game 3 loss Saturday night.

K-Mart catches flu from Smith, misses Knicks practice

Knicks Blog | New York Post — INDIANAPOLIS – Kenyon Martin missed practice today at Bankers Life Field House because of flu-like symptoms – with Knicks coach Mike Woodson worried it could be spreading around. J.R. Smith and Martin both stayed back in the team hotel. Smith came down with a severe virus Friday night, had a 102-degree fever Saturday and played at less-than-full-strength in last night’s 82-71 loss to the Pacers. Smith shot 4 of 12 and had low energy on defense. “Kenyon is kind of coming down with it too,’’ Woodson said. “So we got to be careful this doesn’t spread and other guys start dropping. So we kept the...

  • Post-Practice Notes: Kenyon Martin's sick now, too.
Well, back to practice they go. After three full days of preparation did little to give the Knicks an edge in Game 3, all they can do is try something else. The Knicks got back to work in Indiana this morning and did a little media availability afterward. Some things: - Whatever is ailing J.R. Smith (and I think we can agree that, jokes about self-inflicted daze aside, J.R. looked super ill last night) has now spread to Kenyon Martin. Both missed practice today. I hope neither shares air with the rest of the team until Tuesday, when they should enter the game simultaneously against Ind...

  • Back to the future: the Celtics' eight-year championship window
I'm not even sure why we're even talking about this. To all Celtics bloggers and beat writers, stop writing the obituaries. Enough with the eulogies already. If anything, you're playing right into Kenyon Martin's hands. I know we're all a little emotional after Game 6's roller coaster ride and even more exhausted from a season of hope and promise that lead to frustration then hope again and then back to frustration. This has been a brutal seven months. You could see it on Doc's face during his press conference, hear it in Pierce's and Garnett's post game comments, and read it acro...
