As more milestones approach, Kevin Garnett's legacy is enhanced

Kevin Garnett's contract runs out at the end of this season. He has already achieved enough to be considered among the greatest power forwards, indeed among the greatest players, in NBA history.  And with this season, he has a chance to add to his career achievements. He is already... --Only player in NBA history to reach at least 25,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 5,000 assists, 1,500 steals and 1,500 blocks in his career --Only player in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists per game for 6 consecutive seasons (1999–2000—2004–05) --Only player in NBA...

Without teammate Paul Pierce, here’s how Kevin Garnett can still be effective

The Nets offseason has brought myriad changes to Brooklyn; some were more overt than others. The Washington Wizards this week signed Kevin Garnett’s running mate of eight years, Paul Pierce. The two will likely end their careers apart. Garnett will likely stay in Brooklyn to finish perhaps the final year of his NBA career. He’s coming off the worst season of his 19-year career; a season plagued by injuries and factors both in his control and not. When the league lockout shortened the 1998-99 season — a season in which he played 47 games — Garnett nearly tripled his scoring figures...

Garnett not bothered by Pierce leaving, likely not retiring

I reported yesterday that KG may not come back after Pierce departed for the Wizards. It sounds like he's going to give it a go with the Nets anyway. ESPNDespite the loss of Paul Pierce via free agency, Kevin Garnett likes the direction of the Brooklyn Nets and is "excited" about joining them for the upcoming season, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard.Garnett, who turned 38 in May, is due $12 million in 2014-15, which would be his 20th NBA season. He has yet to publicly announce that he's playing this season, but all indications continue to point that way. Kevin Garnett training, will return to Brooklyn Nets

Multiple sources report that Kevin Garnett will return to the Brooklyn Nets next year.  Garnett is under contract for the 2014-15 season. He will be paid $12 million on the last year of a deal signed while he was playing in Boston. His return, say sources, is not dependent on Paul Pierce's decision to take the MLE in Washington. I'm told KG's decision was never dependent on Pierce's final destination and he has remained in contact with the #nets. — Alex Raskin (@alexraskinNYC) July 13, 2014 Pierce and Garnett have been teammates since the 2007-08 season, starting the Celtics then...

Lionel Hollins opens up on his roster, suggests Kevin Garnett's return isn't a done deal

Lionel Hollins opens up on his roster, suggests Kevin Garnett's return isn't a done deal

Was it a way to get Kevin Garnett's attention or something more? Lionel Hollins was in Orlando Friday afternoon for the summer league game vs. the Rockets and in talking to NBA TV and beat writers, he noted that he hadn't yet spoken to Kevin Garnett. "I have called and I’ve texted him. I have not talked to him yet. KG, if he decides to come back and play, will certainly be in that mix [of the nucleus]. I’m sure if he returns he’s going to probably be in the best condition of his life, wanting to go out with a bang and on own his own terms. That’s what I expect." IF he decides to...

Kevin Garnett expected to return for his 18th NBA season

According to Nets GM Billy King, Kevin Garnett is expected to return for his 18th (and likely final) season. He played his first 12 seasons in Minnesota, and has cemented a legacy in the process. I grew up with Kevin Garnett. Not literally, of course, but I was 4 years old when the 19-year-old skinny kid out of Farragut Academy in Chicago was drafted 5th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. While I was in my own little world, busy getting acquainted with life, my dad was watching the Wolves draft a youngster who had a lot of learning of his own ahead of him. (Fun fact: my dad wanted Ed...

GM King looks to keep Pierce, Garnett

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brooklyn Nets general manager Billy King described the Jason Kidd-Nets divorce as a “speed bump.” The Nets are hoping it doesn’t become a road block when it comes to getting Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to return to the franchise for a second season. Pierce became a free agent at midnight Tuesday and the Nets want to re-sign the veteran forward, who has drawn interest from several teams according to ESPN.

C's select UK's Young with pick from Nets

The Boston Celtics, with the No. 17 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, which was acquired in the blockbuster deal that brought Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn, selected Kentucky swingman James Young. The Nets still owe the Celtics their unprotected firsts in 2016 and 2018. Boston also has the right to swap firsts with Brooklyn in 2017. Garnett, 38, is under contract for next season at $12 million, and all indications are that, baring some unforeseen occurrence, he continues his career with the Nets.

Kevin Garnett "preparing earlier this year than he did last summer"

Billy King did everything but say Kevin Garnett is in camp Wednesday, sealing the books on a story that many thought wouldn't happen: KG is not retiring, not leaving $12 million on the table. but will instead play again next season, his 20th in the NBA.  Garnett will become on the fourth player in NBA history to hit the 20 year mark, joining Kevin Willis, Robert Parrish and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. "Yes," Billy King said when asked if he believes Kevin Garnett will be able to play at a high level next season. "I think he's preparing earlier this year than he did last summer." King's comments...
