Kirk Hinrich went to the line with less than three seconds remaining in overtime of Tuesday's Game 2 and the Bulls down 101-99, but missed both free throws in the loss.

Late chances off the mark for Hinrich

CHICAGO – With the season hanging in the balance Tuesday at United Center, Chicago Bulls point guard Kirk Hinrich first couldn’t muster any heroics, and then he couldn’t handle the basics. Late in regulation, Hinrich had two looks at long-range jumpers that wouldn’t fall for a Bulls team struggling to score in the final quarter. A 10-point lead with seven minutes remaining melted away, sending the game into overtime. In the extra period, Hinrich found himself in the spotlight again.

Rapid Reaction: Wizards 102, Bulls 93

CHICAGO -- Let's take a quick look at how the Washington Wizards earned a 102-93 win over the Chicago Bulls in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The Wizards lead the series 1-0. How it happened: Nene Hilario had a huge game for the Wizards, setting an early tone by going off for 24 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Marcin Gortat added 15 points and 13 rebounds for a Wizards team that overcame a 13-point, second-half deficit. Kirk Hinrich had 16 points and Joakim Noah had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists to lead the Bulls, but it wasn't enough as they couldn't make big...

Playoff predictions: Bulls vs. Wizards

Just because neither team has a prayer of reaching the Finals doesn't mean it can't be compelling, but ask me again when it's 34-32 at halftime of Game 1. 4) Chicago Bulls vs. 5) Washington Wizards (Wizards 2-1) I'm genuinely excited to watch this series, but I'll be damned if I know what's going to happen. Maybe I'm excited because I don't know. On one hand you've got the John Wall-Bradley Beal backcourt of the Wizards, who can score with anyone, but the Bulls have the defensive tandem of Kirk Hinrich and Jimmy Butler to neutralize them. Washington has a soft defensive duo of bigs in...

Bulls planning Wall-to-Wall coverage vs. Wizards

Kirk Hinrich was John Wall’s teammate during the 2010-11 season. In Hinrich years, that’s a long time ago, a lot of ice tubs and taped body parts ago. “No, nothing like that,’’ Hinrich said Friday when asked if he helped mentor Wall, a rookie that season. “The relationship was good. I got along great with him. You could tell he had great athleticism, great talent but also a knack for playing the point-guard position. “[Former NBA guard] Sam Cassell was...

3 Points: Sizing up the Bulls-Wizards series

Every week, Nick Friedell is joined by two other ESPN writers to weigh in on three questions that are on the minds of Chicago Bulls followers. 1. What about the Wizards should concern the Bulls? Friedell: How will the Bulls be able to contain John Wall and will Tom Thibodeau be willing to use Kirk Hinrich more than his customary 25-30 minutes a night? Nene and Marcin Gortat have given the Bulls problems in the past. They can score and they know how to play on the blocks.

While the Pacers and Heat struggled, the Bulls gained confidence

The Bulls are well aware that they had no business even contemplating a spot in the Eastern Conference finals a few months ago. Not enough star power, a bit too gritty, and when it really came down to it, they just weren’t good enough in the win-loss column. No, it was a table for two back then, and only the Heat and Pacers were having chairs pulled out for them. “We all get it,’’ guard Kirk Hinrich said. “Indiana and Miami were having unbelievable years,...

The D.J. Augustin-Kirk Hinrich pairing has been great

The Augustin-Hinrich duo has been a staple down the stretch of games, and it has worked extremely well. When the Bulls signed Kirk Hinrich, we heard all about how they liked his ability to play both guard positions and how he was a guy who could mesh well playing alongside Derrick Rose. We of course never got to see the tandem in action last year, but heading into this season, we once again heard all about how dangerous the pairing could be. I kind of scoffed at all of the talk surrounding the duo's "dangerous" potential (mainly because of my lack of faith in Hinrich), and things certainly...
