Kurt Thomas has officially been waived.

Posting and Toasting — It's official. Farewell, Kurt Thomas. We've had a long, wonderful history together, and I'm happy we got to share that last miraculous game in Utah before you said goodbye, perhaps for good. Thomas will have surgery on that right foot next week. Glen Grunwald made a really nice statement to bid him farewell, which isn't something the Knicks always do in moments like these: "We thank Kurt for all that he has done. I have the utmost respect for Kurt as a player and as a man." Of course, we all hope Kurt can stick with the team through the playoffs as a spirit animal/mascot/resident he...

Grant Hill is finally the oldest player in the NBA

Clips Nation — Since Shaquille O'Neal's retirement a couple of seasons ago, Grant Hill has been the second oldest player in the NBA. Kurt Thomas, born October 4 1972, is a day older than Hill, who was born October 5. And would you believe that both Hill and Thomas were born in Dallas? Hill is of course the son of Dallas Cowboys running back Calvin Hill; Thomas was born and bred in the metroplex, attending High School in Dallas and playing his college ball at TCU in Fort Worth (go Horned Frogs!). Thomas had seemed to be on his last legs as an NBA player for years. The gut he was carrying around this ...

Woj: The Knicks will sign Solomon Jones

Posting and Toasting — The news for a few days had been that the Knicks were going to cut Kurt Thomas-- whose foot injury requires surgery-- to sign forward James Singleton. That deal has apparently fallen through, and the Knicks are going elsewhere. Instead of Singleton, they'll sign Solomon Jones, according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski. You may remember Jones-- they call him "Solo", I call him "Lomon"-- as the third-string big man from the Hawks, or perhaps the Pacers. Or some very brief NBA stops since. Or perhaps China. At a full 6'10", Jones is a bigger dude than Singleton, and he's more of a shot-bloc...

Knicks' Chandler, Martin both ruled out for Bulls game

Knicks Blog | New York Post — The Knicks’ big man crisis continues, as starting center Tyson Chandler and Kenyon Martin have both been ruled out for tomorrow’s huge tilt at Chicago. Kurt Thomas and Amar’e Stoudemire have been out, while Marcus Camby is now listed as doubtful against the Bulls. That means Carmelo Anthony and 6-foot-8, 225-pound rookie Chris Copeland are likely to have to man the center spot tomorrow. Martin sprained his left ankle with 10:28 remaining in last night’s 120-99 rout of Washington. X-rays were negative, and its unclear when he might be able to return. That victory clinched the Knicks’ sixth Atla...

  • Tuesday Intermediate Egrets
Good evening! I have some links to share with you, and this can also serve as a thread for the night's non-Knicks games. - Intermediate egrets, guys. They're not great egrets, they're not little egrets, they're just intermediate. (Alternate names: SmallER egret, Median egret, Okay egret. Two of those are true.) - A whole Tumblr about Clydeisms! - So, we're gonna pool our money together so one of us can do this, right? - Cool Iman Shumpert art! - Some tributes to Kurt Thomas, if indeed we've seen the last of him. - The Knicks happened to be the antagonist of Zach Lowe's incredibly revea...
  • Isola: Kurt Thomas has a stress injury in his foot.
Kurt Thomas got an MRI on that sore right foot today and Frank Isola seems to have found a leak before the results get announced: Breaking: An MRI reveals Kurt Thomas has a stress reaction/stress fracture of his right foot, a person close to Thomas tells the Daily News. — Frank Isola (@FisolaNYDN) March 19, 2013 If true, and if Rasheed Wallace's stress injury is any indication, this will probably end Kurt's season. Right? The alternative is for Kurt to just play through the pain like he did last night, but I think that would end with his foot split clean in half. We'll see what com...

Okay, so the Knicks just finally came out with their own injury reports, and it turns out Kurt Thomas isn't the only one out for a little while. Tyson Chandler's sore neck-- which re-replaced a sore knee as the injury of note-- turned out to be an actual something: An MRI of Tyson’s Chandler cervical spine revealed a small bulging disc. He is expected to miss approximately a week. — NY_KnicksPR (@NY_KnicksPR) March 19, 2013 ("Cervical spine" = Neck.) • Knicks 90, Jazz 83:
Oh man, that was a relief. Short-staffed on the second of a back-to-back, the Knicks had every excuse to whiff a fifth time and return from their road trip empty-handed. The old folks wouldn't let that happen. Raymond Felton and J.R. Smith led the Knicks in scoring, but the 35-and-over demographic really carried the night. While Kenyon Martin, Jason Kidd, and Pablo Prigioni each made important contributions, Kurt Thomas stood out as the undisputed totem spirit of the evening's effort. Silly as it was, the 40 year-old anchored and empowered his Knick nephews, just like Tomahawk Stomp co...
