Open Thread: Kyle Anderson nominated for “Assist of the Year”

NBA Awards recognize the best Slo-Mo fast break of the year Last March, Kyle Anderson fed Davis Bertans on a fast break against the Memphis Grizzlies that nearly turned into a tragic turnover: The result was a no-look-over-the-shoulder-alley-oop that led to a dunk. On that night, it took the honors as the “Budweiser Play of the Game”. Now the NBA has acknowledged the feat as a nominee in the category for “Assist of the Year”. Slo-Mo has accomplished so for the Spurs in his fourth year stepping in as a starter and often bearing the brunt defensively of the opposing team’s...

Spurs improve but still lack the firepower to keep up with the Warriors

34 points from Aldridge wasn’t enough to steal a W at Golden State. If one thing was blatantly obvious from the beginning of Game 1, it was that the San Antonio Spurs preferred starting line-up does not possess enough offensive fire power to keep up with the Golden State Warriors. Enter Rudy Gay, who got the start in place of Kyle Anderson and accomplished the goal of getting more offense for the starters while keeping the double-teams off LaMarcus Aldridge. But would it be enough? The Spurs — looking less like a deer-in-headlights and more like a playoff team — came out much more...

Rudy Gay will start for Spurs in Game 2 vs. Warriors

Forward Rudy Gay will replace Kyle Anderson in San Antonio’s starting lineup Monday night against the Warriors. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich revealed the change during his news conference before Game 2 at Oracle Arena. Anderson was scoreless in 11 minutes in Golden State’s 113-92 victory Saturday, while Gay scored 15 points in 22 minutes off the bench. Asked why he’s making the switch, Popovich said, “Offense. We need to score. We always harp about defense and that sort of thing — and these guys are hard to guard — but we need to score.” ...

Kyle Anderson and The Art of Slow Basketball

Kyle Anderson and The Art of Slow Basketball

Here are today’s best Spurs news and articles. After three years of riding the bench, Kyle Anderson has finally gotten a chance to show off his basketball skills this season in what has become an unexpectedly permanent starting role. Bruno Passos had an excellent piece the other day about how the man known as “Slow Mo” has proven that speed is overrated in basketball, and now Deadspin is getting in on the act with an enjoyable read about how pleasantly hilarious it is to watch Anderson juke unsuspecting opponents off their feet in slow-motion. Keeping old-school basketball alive In...

Video: Kyle Anderson rejects Kyle Kuzma’s layup attempt

On Wednesday night, the NBA became witness to a Kyle on Kyle incident during the game at Staples Center between the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers. During a Lakers fast-break attack in the third quarter, Los Angeles rookie Kyle Kuzma found a gap between San Antonio’s transition defense and proceeded to go […] The post Video: Kyle Anderson rejects Kyle Kuzma’s layup attempt appeared first on ClutchPoints.

Speed is overrated: A Kyle Anderson story

Speed is overrated: A Kyle Anderson story

Kyle Anderson has used his full bag of tricks to subvert our concept of a modern NBA wing. The speed of the NBA game is one of its biggest appeals, and a key reason why its talent level seems so impenetrably high compared to other professional leagues. “Fast” takes on a new, relative meaning when you’re speaking exclusively of a group of top-flight athletes, and so does the word “slow.” This is all to say, in the NBA sense of the word, Kyle Anderson is not fast. I wouldn’t put money on myself or most of the readers of this blog to beat him in a foot race but, among his...
