Silver Screen and Roll And as is the usual for this Laker team, they worked the pick-and-roll between Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol well and got good bench play from Lamar Odom ... oh, sorry, it's not 2009. But you could have fooled many viewers last night, as the Lakers used an old staple with the Kobe/Pau pick-and-roll against a rock hard Memphis defense and relied on key bench contributions from their reserve forwards Earl Clark and Antawn Jamison to get an added boost to their offense in a low-possession, slow slugfest. Even the negatives followed an old script, as the Lakers got awful point guard play due t...

Dallas Mavericks March 30, 2013Dallas Mavericks Blog | ESPN Dallas DALLAS – Mark Cuban was a rowdy, loud and proud man Tuesday night, when he watched the Mavs’ OT thriller on television in the Cayman Islands, his family’s annual spring break getaway destination. The fact that the Mavs managed to pull out the 109-102 win over the Clippers obviously pleased Cuban. He was also content with the sellout crowd’s rough treatment of Lamar Odom, who was booed relentlessly the second he started to take off his warm-ups, and every time he touched the ball.

March 27, 2013Dallas Mavericks Blog | ESPN Dallas DALLAS – Lamar Odom, whose one-year stint with the Mavericks was one of the biggest disgraces in Dallas sports history, returns to the scene of the crime Tuesday night. Mavs Moneyball Last season was a frustrating one for every person associated with the Dallas Mavericks. There was the lockout, Tyson Chandler going to New York, an out of shape Dirk Nowitzki, and eventually losing to the Thunder in four playoff games in humiliating fashion. Oh, and there was the season long debacle involving one Lamar Joseph Odom. You remember him, right? The Lakers sent him to Dallas in exchange for a future first round draft pick (now owned by the Thunder) and an $8.9 million trade exception. During 50 games with Dallas he posted new career lows across nearly every statistical meas...

Silver Screen and Roll The Lakers' defense was not very crisp last night. Dwight Howard was a dynamo of effort as he is wont to be nowadays, but the help behind him was utterly miserable time and time again. You miss someone like Lamar Odom, who was pretty prompt with his back end responsibilities and the wings also need to hugely improve in this area (cough) Kobe (cough). But last night was not necessarily about the Lakers' defense. If we look at the shot chart, we see quite a different picture for both squads. On the right is the Lakers, who look like they absorbed every tidbit of what the guys at Sloan we...
