Hornets run out of gas in the fourth again, lose to Bucks, 131-114

For the second time in as many visits to Milwaukee, the Hornets played well for the first three quarters before falling off in the fourth. The Charlotte Hornets can go toe to toe with the Milwaukee Bucks for three quarters. It’s just that pesky fourth quarter that does them in. The teams were deadlocked form the majority of the first quarter, before the Hornets created some space with just over three minutes to go. That lead held through the end of the quarter, where a Miles Bridges 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the period put the Hornets up 32-24. The rookie had a couple of...

Making sense of Michael Kidd-Gilcrhist’s inactivity

Making sense of Michael Kidd-Gilcrhist’s inactivity

Once a promising centerpiece of the franchise, the Hornets forwrard now has many questions about his role due to recent events. The Charlotte Hornets have looked like a totally different ball club after the All-Star break. With a major lineup change that placed rookie Miles Bridges at the starting small forward spot, it has allowed guard Jeremy Lamb to become the team’s sixth man, to which he has done an excellent job. More players are also breaking away from their recent trends and have now become more aggressive with the basketball. Both Nicalous Batum and Cody Zeller have never been...

Podcast: Our first real episode, just talking Hornets

Let’s get this show on the road. Well here it is. The first full episode of the At the Hive Podcast. I’m joined by Zach Brown, formerly of The 85 Pod with the Gaston Gazette. I’d like to think we got things started on the right foot. We talk about the Hornets play since the All Star break and how it should translate going forward. We predict whether or not the Hornets make the playoffs. We talk about the lineup changes- Miles Bridges replacing Jeremy Lamb in the starting lineup, Frank Kaminsky getting minutes, and Malik Monk and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist getting DNP-CDs. We also answer...

Hornets can’t close the door, lose to Rockets 118-113

The Hornets had a lead going into the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t hold on. Kemba Walker scored 35 points and Jeremy Lamb scored 18 to go along with 14 rebounds and 6 assists, but it wasn’t enough as the Hornets lost to the Rockets, 118-113. The Hornets got off to an ideal offensive start. Nicolas Batum, Marvin Williams, and Miles Bridges each hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions. The Hornets went basket for basket with the Rockets for most of the period and did a great job limiting James Harden, but a 9-2 run from Chris Paul put the Rockets up 41-33 at the first intermission....

Hornets overcome slow start, beat Wizards 123-110

It looked like another blowout in the making, but the Hornets righted the ship and pulled out a comfortable victory. Kemba Walker had 27 points and 11 assists and Nicolas Batum had 20 points to help the Charlotte Hornets overcome 46 points from Bradley Beal and beat the Washington Wizards, 123-110. Miles Bridges got his first career start in place of Jeremy Lamb, who was moved into a sixth man role, presumably to try to jump start a bench unit that’s had its fair share of struggles lately. It looked like a failure early as the Hornets fell behind 28-16 in the first eight and a half...
