Blazer's Edge Mailbag: Improving Meyers, Defense, Trading the Core, Omer Asik

Blazersedge — Dave, Joel Przybilla seemed to improve tremendously as a defensive player after a summer of boxing training. (I only know this from some newspaper article years ago.) Since foot movement and balance is so important for big guys, I'm wondering if Myers Leonard would also benefit in some significant ways from similar training. Do you agree or not? Jerry Before we talk about this, let me take a second to acknowledge Jerry. Blazer's Edge covers a wide area and each section has its own stalwart heroes. Before there was Hack-a-Shaq, there was fouling Wilt Chamberlain

NBA Blog | Houston Chronicle — Fouling the big guy, as the Thunder did to Rockets center Omer Asik during Game 5 of the Oklahoma City-Houston playoff series, is a time-honored tactic that even predates the Big Pontificator, Shaquille O’Neal, and his linear descendent, Dwight Howard. As with most outsized tactics in the NBA, it dates back to the greatest game-changer [...]

Durant calls Thunder’s strategy on Asik: “Hack-A-Whatever His Name Is”

OKC Thunder: Houston's third quarter too much for Thunder

Oklahoman — BY BERRY TRAMELHOUSTON — You can blame Serge Ibaka's short-armed follow shot at the buzzer, or the breakdown of the final possession that forced Reggie Jackson to drive into Houston pine tree Omer Asik, or the overall offensive tomfoolery that led to 31 Rocket points off turnovers. But the Thunder-Rocket series remains alive because the Thunder let down on defense for just a little bit of time. And in these no-Russell Westbrook times, that can't happen. Houston beat the Thunder 105-103 Monday night at the Toyota Center when Ibaka's wide-open rebound shot at the buzzer didn't make it above the ...

OKC Thunder: Thunder takes a ride on emotional roller coaster

Oklahoman — BY JOHN ROHDE, Staff Writer, jrohde@opubco.comHOUSTON — Trailing by two with the game clock ticking inside its final three seconds on Monday night, Thunder point guard Reggie Jackson drove the lane and ran into 7-foot, 255-pound Houston center Omer Asik, who loomed even larger with both arms extended high as he jumped in front of Jackson. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound Jackson took the brunt of the collision and his running 5-foot attempt barely drew iron off the left side of the rim. The ball fell into the waiting hands of Thunder power forward Serge Ibaka who hurried the put-back to beat the buzzer...
