Hawks handle short-handed Heat, 127-92

Photo by Adam Hagy/NBAE via The ‘dress rehearsal’ was a success. The Atlanta Hawks hosted (some of) the Miami Heat on Thursday evening in what would be the last preseason game of 2021 for the Hawks. The Heat have one more preseason matchup Friday evening with the Boston Celtics, and they chose to sit nearly their entire rotation for Thursday’s tilt in Atlanta. The Hawks were nearly at full strength, with just Danilo Gallinari, Lou Williams and Onyeka Okongwu out. The Hawks regulars did work against Miami’s skeleton squad as you would expect, which is a good...

Atlanta Hawks: Sharife Cooper is looking NBA ready

The Atlanta Hawks were having a bad game for the third contest in a row. They were missing Trae Young, Delon Wright, Clint Capela, Onyeka Okongwu, and De’Andre Hunter from their rotation for the game. They then lost Gorgui Dieng to a sprain in his right hand, part of the way through the game. TheHawks turn around a late 10-point deficit behind Cooper’s heroics

Photo by Joe Murphy/NBAE via In the Hawks’ third preseason contest, Atlanta finally tallied a win in the standings. Without the services of Clint Capela, De’Andre Hunter, Trae Young, Delon Wright and Onyeka Okongwu, the Hawks would rally late behind the play of second round draft pick Sharife Cooper at the point. The Hawks seemed to play through the post primarily in the first half, getting John Collins and Danilo Gallinari plenty of touches down in the mid-post. This was something that was very effective last season, as the two efficient forwards often showed...

Atlanta Hawks: The latest news on De’Andre Hunter isn’t encouraging

Atlanta Hawks fans came into the preseason with the same goal as the team: make it out healthy. We knew they would be without second-year center Onyeka Okongwu until January at the earliest. But it wasn’t until training camp that we found out to what extent the Hawks were dealing with injuries. Hawks fall to Heat 125-99 in preseason opener

Photo by Michael Reaves/NBAE via The Atlanta Hawks traveled to south Florida to open the 2021 preseason in a matchup with the Miami Heat. A few big names were missing in this one, but basketball returned nonetheless. Clint Capela (Achilles), De’Andre Hunter (knee), Kevin Huerter (ankle) and Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) were out for Atlanta, while Jimmy Butler and Victor Oladipo were out for Miami. The Heat got out to a hot start, going on a 12-0 run at one point in the first, but the Hawks made a run of their own to level the score and trailed by just one at 33-32...

Atlanta Hawks : 3 Improvements Onyeka Okongwu must make this season

Onyeka Okongwu was the 6th overall draft pick for the Atlanta Hawks in the 2020 NBA draft. Even though he started last season injured, when he got in the lineup you can argue that he made more improvement than any Hawks player over the season. There were questions asked about whether he could make an […] Atlanta Hawks : 3 Improvements Onyeka Okongwu must make this season - Soaring Down South - Soaring Down South - An Atlanta Hawks blog

2021-22 Atlanta Hawks Player Preview: Clint Capela

2021-22 Atlanta Hawks Player Preview: Clint Capela

Photo by Kevin C. Cox/ The Atlanta Hawks traded for Clint Capela during the 2019-20 season, giving up just a mid first-round pick to acquire the big man from the Houston Rockets. Capela was injured at the time, never appearing during that COVID-shortened season. Heading into 2020-21, Capela was going to be the starting center, but the Hawks also had the No. 6 pick in the 2020 draft at his position as well, Onyeka Okongwu. There wasn’t any controversy so to speak about who should play, as everyone fully expected Capela to start. But the feeling of how he would look was...
