Paul Millsap leads comeback in Hawks' win over Grizzlies

Paul Millsap had another big night as the Atlanta Hawks overcame an early deficit to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies. The Atlanta Hawks snapped a four-game road losing streak and cooled off a red hot Memphis Grizzlies team in the process. It was Atlanta's first win in Memphis since December of 2012 and with a difficult stretch of games coming up, it was a great win to get. Things started anything but well for the Hawks as Memphis rattled off 36 first quarter points while shooting 70 percent from the floor. The opening quarter was capped off by a 65-foot bomb by Vince Carter that made you...

Hawks falter late in loss to Timberwolves

Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap had big games but Atlanta's offense went dry in the fourth in a 99-95 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They would never admit it, but the Atlanta Hawks are probably happy to not see the Minnesota Timberwolves anymore this season. Minnesota swept the season series Wednesday night with a 99-95 win at the Target Center in a physical game that came down to the final possession. It is a strange occurrence to look at the box score and see Atlanta win the rebounding battle and lose the game. The Hawks finished with a 53-45 edge on the glass and grabbed 15 offensive...

Hawks hold on for much needed win over Kings

The Atlanta Hawks had to hold on at the end but survived to grab a much needed 103-97 win over the Sacramento Kings. A monster night from Paul Millsap and a solid bounce back effort from Dennis Schroder were the difference for the Atlanta Hawks in a 103-97 win over the Sacramento Kings. The win snapped Atlanta's three-game losing streak and broke up a stretch of four losses over their last five games. Now with a pair of off days before Saturday's game in Cleveland, the Hawks have a rare opportunity to catch their breath and refocus before another grueling stretch to close out the month. "I...

Hawks drop third straight with 90-88 loss to Nets

The Hawks fought all game, but couldn't squeeze out the victory. In what was a close game the entire way, the Atlanta Hawks were unable to pull out a victory in Brooklyn, losing their third consecutive game by a score of 90-88. The Hawks were without Kent Bazemore and Jeff Teague, who were both out with injuries. With these injuries, Dennis Schroder, Thabo Sefolosha, Paul Millsap, Al Horford and Tiago Splitter were the starting lineup that the Hawks would go with Tuesday night. In the first quarter, the Hawks had very balanced scoring. Sefolosha, Millsap, and Horford all had four points...

Jazz postgame thoughts

What Happened: Utah defeated the Hawks when Paul Millsap’s jumper at the buzzer hit the front of the rim and bounced harmlessly to the ground. The miss gave the Jazz their first win in the current four game trip, which means the Jazz finish the trip with a 1-3 record. It wasn’t before a lot of nervous moments. The Jazz led 95-88 with 2:20 remaining, but a few Atlanta made shots and a few Jazz turnovers later, and the Hawks had the chance to win it in the last possession. Still, it was a great wi...

Jazz vs Hawks final score: Atlanta comes up short at home in 97-96 loss

Paul Millsap scored a game-high 28 points but missed a would-be game-winner at the buzzer. Paul Millsap put up a tremendous performance, but the Atlanta Hawks came up just short in a 97-96 loss to the Utah Jazz Sunday at Philips Arena. The Hawks were already playing without one starter in Jeff Teague who sat out the game due to an ankle injury. They lost Kent Bazemore midway through the fourth quarter with an ankle injury of his own. The Jazz got off to a hot start shooting over 60 percent from the field in the opening quarter. Atlanta was able to weather the early storm thanks to six first...

Is Paul Millsap a top-5 power forward? This ranking says so if you cut through the noise

Paul Millsap is playing extremely well, and he's starting to get recognized in a big way. It is increasingly difficult to rank the best players in the NBA by position. Teams are regularly deploying lineups that would have been classified as strange in past seasons, and that even extends to the starting lineup for a team like the Indiana Pacers, who utilize Paul George as an every-game starter at the power forward position. Bradford Doolittle of ESPN Insider is attempting to rank the top 30 players at each position in the league, and to be clear, he is doing a very strong job. On Wednesday,...

Wizards vs. Hawks second half GameThread: Porter leads D.C. to a 45-41 halftime lead

Washington's winning, but it could be by a lot more than just four points. The Wizards are winning 45-41 at halftime over the Hawks. Otto Porter scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting to lead the way for D.C., while Paul Millsap has 13 points (and three three-pointers) for ATL. There are two key stats in the game. First, it's shooting efficiency. Washington is making shots at a much higher rate than Atlanta (46.5 vs. 34.7 percent) AND they're winning the rebounding battle (28-18). Based on these stats alone, the Wizards should be blowing the Hawks out. But turnovers once again are negating...

The Hawks squeeze another one out against the Hornets, 94-92

Atlanta held on against the Hornets once again. The Hawks starting lineup was back to normal, with Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, Kent Bazemore, Paul Millsap and Al Horford taking the floor. Mike Muscala, questionable coming into this one, was active. Edy Tavares and Tim Hardaway Jr. were inactives for today. After getting off to a slow start early, falling down 9-2 before surging, going on a 19-5 run. Marvin Williams had 9 points after knocking down three early 3-pointers. Paul Millsap had a great first quarter, with 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Hawks shot 57 percent in the quarter,...
