EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brooklyn Nets forward Paul Pierce claimed on Sunday that he did not know who Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri was -- but Pierce sure sounded like he was being facetious. Asked about Ujiri’s now infamous “F--- Brooklyn!” comment at a fan rally prior to the Nets’ 94-87 victory over the Raptors in Game 1 of their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series, Pierce responded, “Really?

Old man Pierce delivers playoff daggers

TORONTO -- Paul Pierce has played in 137 playoff games, pressure-packed Game 7’s and has experienced the intense spotlight of the NBA Finals. But he experienced a postseason first on Saturday in Toronto. The shot clocks malfunctioned and both the Nets and Raptors had to play most of the second half of Game 1 as if it were on somebody's driveway. The public address announcer called out the time of the shot clock in intervals -- 24, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 -- followed by “horn” if the shot clock expired.

Dubbed a "Dinosaur" on the front page of the local Toronto paper because of his age, Pierce buried the Raptors in Game 1 of the opening round, scoring nine of his 15 points in the final three minutes of a wild 94-87 victory that started with a profane insult from Toronto's GM and ended with a broken shot clock.

Notes: Pierce tweaks shoulder

NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd said he could have brought forward Paul Pierce back into Sunday night’s game if it had more meaning. Pierce suffered from right shoulder pain -- what looked like another stinger -- in the third quarter and did not return. He got knocked by Orlando Magic big man Kyle O'Quinn while driving to the basket. Pierce immediately looked in agony and went to the bench with trainer Tim Walsh. He did not go to the locker room, however, as he had in the past.
