Rockets get third-straight win with 107-88 victory over Wizards

Photo by Carmen Mandato/ Houston is going streaking! The Houston Rockets win the matchup of the traded players with a 107-88 win over the Washington Wizards in Houston on Tuesday night. Despite some really good team play in the first quarter, the Rockets had to overcome an early deficit. Houston couldn’t find their shot to start the game, going down 9-3 early. But the team would eventually click and find their stroke from behind the arc. Every single Rocket but P.J. Tucker scored in the first quarter, with former college teammates John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins...

Rockets’ win over Pistons show a new winning blueprint for Houston

Photo by Gregory Shamus/ No longer a one-man show, the Houston Rockets exhibited hustle and grit in their one-point victory over the Pistons Friday night.   Stephen Silas said he was hoping the referees saw what he saw. With 3.4 seconds remaining in the game, Jerami Grant scored a layup over the top of P.J. Tucker. The ball clearly went in as the buzzer sounded, but Tucker made contact with Grant on his way to the basket. If Tucker’s bump came before the buzzer, it would have allowed Grant an opportunity to win the game from the foul line for the Detroit Pistons....

Rockets withstand final review in 103-102 win over Pistons

DETROIT (AP) — Jerami Grant's driving layup on the final play came too late, and the Houston Rockets held on for a 103-102 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night. Down one with 3.4 seconds remaining, the Pistons inbounded to Grant, who faked a handoff to Blake Griffin and then drove down the right side of the lane. Time clearly ran out before he laid the ball in, but he was also bumped by Houston's P.J. Tucker. Replays showed that contact also came after time expired, and after a review, the game ended with the Rockets holding on. Grant scored 21 points for Detroit, which rallied...

New-look Rockets open post-Harden era with 109-105 victory over Spurs

Photo by Ronald Cortes/ No Harden, no problem. So how about them apples? The Houston Rockets opened up the post-James Harden era also playing without John Wall, Eric Gordon, and Danuel House, but they played hard, perhaps harder than they’ve played all year, and used some clutch fourth-quarter play from Christian Wood and Sterling Brown to edge past the San Antonio Spurs 109-105. The Rockets were down five points with three minutes left in what was a very good and fun-to-watch game, but both Wood and Brown hit big shots, while P.J. Tucker and Jae’sean Tate made...

Wood scores 22 to lead Rockets to 132-90 rout of Orlando

HOUSTON (AP) — Christian Wood scored 22 points and tied a career high with 15 rebounds to lead the Houston Rockets to a 132-90 rout of the short-handed Orlando Magic on Friday night. Houston was up by 29 at halftime and had extended the lead to 81-43 after consecutive 3-pointers by John Wall and P.J. Tucker with about five minutes left in the third. The Magic looked nothing like the team that opened the season 6-2. Aaron Gordon sat out with a left hamstring injury in the team’s first game since guard Markelle Fultz sustained a season-ending knee injury in a win over Cleveland on Wednesday...

Rockets must remain cool after 0-2 start to season

Photo by Steph Chambers/ After a blowout loss to the Nuggets, the Houston Rockets must remain cool and adopt Stephen Silas’ characteristic as a head coach. P.J. Tucker spoke on the qualities that made Stephen Silas the “coolest coach” he has ever seen. He said Silas is always cool. At times it may seem like he is nonchalant, but that is his personality. Tucker spoke on Silas’ characteristics eight hours before Monday’s 124-111 loss to the Denver Nuggets. Now at 0-2 to start the season, Silas needs to sustain his mentality to remain cool. This is not what...
