Jones, Allen, Lewis, Miller bring back the powder toss

Heat Zone | Palm Beach PostLeBron James has left the powder toss behind. These days — on the nights he plays — he waits out warmups on the midcourt line, intensely staring at the floor. Over the past few weeks, however, four of his teammates have resurrected his ritual, tossing the powder together as they gather underneath. “I think it was mostly J.J.,” Ray Allen said of James Jones. “We just started doing it,” Jones said, also referring to Mike Miller and Rashard Lewis. “I had never used it. Nothing special.” “It’s part of the routine now,” Lewis said. And there’s one part that never fails to make Lewis laugh. “Let me ...

Wizards’ Emeka Okafor, Trevor Ariza both intend to complete contracts

Wizards Insider | Washington Post — The Wizards fully expected that Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza would be under contract through the 2013-14 season when they acquired them last June from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Rashard Lewis’s expiring contract. Okafor and Ariza have … Continue reading →

Ernie Grunfeld, victorious given expectations

Bullets Forever — When the Wizards swapped Rashard Lewis and the 43rd pick in the 2012 draft for Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor, the rosiest consensus tended towards 'General Manager Ernie Grunfeld has spent the Wizards carefully cultivated cap powder on players that, at best, will make this a .500 ball club.' When John Wall returned from injury and the team's record showed improvement over a small sample size, owner Ted Leonsis laid down the gauntlet for the last place Wiz: .500 or bust. That's a hell of a shot across the bow to a salaried employee. The team is surging, aiming at 9th place and with the ...

Rashard Lewis relishes scene in Dwyane Wade’s shadow (VIDEO)

Heat Zone | Palm Beach Post — By now, you’ve probably seen the Gatorade commercial that starts Kevin Durant and Dwyane Wade. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNjQishYOy0 But how were Wade’s teammates cast? Well, Gatorade couldn’t take LeBron James, because he’s long been a Powerade endorser. And since the spot was shot over All-Star Weekend in Houston, so not all of the Heat players were in town. So Rashard Lewis got a chance. “We were in the locker room one day, and I’m from Houston so he pretty much knew I would be going down there for All-Star weekend,” Lewis said. Wade asked if he’d want to participate. “I did a doubleta...

Little-used? Rashard Lewis still having “time of my life”

Heat Zone | Palm Beach PostRashard Lewis has made more than $100 million in his career, and played in the NBA Finals. Now he’s on the fringe of the rotation with the Heat, one of the veterans — with Mike Miller, James Jones and Joel Anthony — who might be playing more elsewhere, but who make Erik Spoelstra’s job easier by never issuing a public complaint. And he says that he hasn’t been happier in the NBA. In Milwaukee during the road trip, Lewis bumped into former Magic teammate — and relatively new Buck — J.J. Redick. “He asked, ‘How you like it down there?’” Lewis said. “I said, ‘Man, I’m having the time of my life. ...

ASK IRA: Is Spoelstra done with his rotation?

Miami Heat Blog | South Florida Sun-Sentinel — Q: Do you think rotation will shrink further once playoffs start? I am guessing Rashard Lewis won't play. What about Birdman? He seems to be someone who will really help in the playoffs, unlike the centers from the prior two years who were dropped from the rotation once the playoffs started. -- Jeffrey.
