That wasn’t inadvertent. Battier knew what he was doing.” Hibbert posted this after Heat practice and availability ended. SLC Dunk Every year you get some really funny stuff, mostly Duke guys, who are just way taller than we know they are. The classic Example in my mind is Shane Battier being like 6'10 in shoes at the draft combine in his year. See, Duke guys. Anyway, the shoes used at the combine are not standardized. As a result, there are height variations that need to be recognized -- someone may measure "better" but he may only be better because his shoes are better paired up with a strapless, black evening gown. (*I'm talking about high heels!* #ChristianLouboutin) I looked at all the dudes who were measured...

Welcome to Loud City Zach Lowe of Grantland is my favorite NBA writer, and he wrote a terrific piece today on the value of finding a 3 tool role player like that of Shane Battier. He mentions numerous different players including the Thunder's Thabo Sefolosha: Sefolosha emerged as sort of a dividing line in nominating New Age Battiers during talks with executives around the league. He can clearly guard both wing positions credibly, and he has shot better than 40 percent from 3-point range in each of the last two seasons. The folks who don't think Sefolosha quite belongs argue that he has shot that well onl...

Orlando Pinstriped Post Shane Battier has made a living for himself in the NBA by dint of his two best skills: defending opposing shooting guards and small forwards, and being able to shoot the three-pointer at a high percentage. Zach Lowe of Grantland set out to find the league's new Battiers--though the old one is still around--and explains their importance to the game the way it's played in 2013. "Defense and shooting are fundamental basketball skills," Lowe says. They have always been important. But they are becoming more important as the league changes, and on the flip side, the absence of those skills ...
