This week on the show, Kevin and Phil talk about: Zach Randolph's candidacy for Sixth Man of the Year, and who some of the challengers might be. Grizzlies sign Wayne Selden, release Toney Douglas

Shams Charania of The Vertical reports the Grizzlies just got younger & more explosive. Toney Douglas has reportedly been waived. That part is not as surprising. Douglas has fallen out of the rotation of late for the Memphis Grizzlies, and Andrew Harrison has seen increased minutes and has performed better than he did earlier in the season. The surprising part is who the Grizzlies picked up. Here at GBB and elsewhere Omri Casspi was believed to be a Grizzlies target, considering Marc Stein of ESPN reported as much. But Shams Charania of The Vertical has reported that Memphis is going in a...

Omri Casspi: Mid-Season Acquisition, Take #2

Omri Casspi: Mid-Season Acquisition, Take #2

How Omri Casspi could help the Grizzlies shore up the Grizzlies wing rotation, in light of the Parsons news. Ok, so Toney Douglas is indeed, not the answer. With the trade deadline long and gone, it seems that the Grizzlies endeavors for a back-up point guard are now futile. So futile, in fact, that Toney Douglas, our midseason “like a trade” acquisition, has fallen out of the rotation in favor of Andrew Harrison, a guy that was on the opening night roster. Recently, however, the Grizzlies $94 million dollar man suffered another knee injury that will likely shut him down for the...

Clippers 114, Grizzlies 98: The Pinto and the Guardrail

It wasn’t even that they lost by 16 points, or that they trailed by 20 most of the 4th quarter. It wasn’t that Mike Conley played a heavy minute load again and shot 3–14 from the field. It wasn’t that Toney Douglas ended up –12 in 12 minutes, further cementing my opinion that hanging on to him as the permanent backup point guard was a huge miscalculation. The most frustrating thing about last night was the inevitability of it all, the lack of any doubt from about 15 minutes in that the Grizzlies were going to lose. From there on out, it was all theater, going through the...

The Grizzlies weakest link is back-up point guard

The Grizzlies weakest link is back-up point guard

I’m not mad at anyone other than myself, and Toney Douglas. The Memphis Grizzlies are doing pretty alright for themselves this season. Some nights, though, it’s clear that they just don’t have it, and the set of losses on the Mavericks/Rockets back-to-back are good examples of that. They were frustrating. And that’s going to happen. Because of their roster construction, the Grizzlies need Marc Gasol, Mike Conley and JaMychal Green to be really good every night. Usually they are, which is why the Grizzlies are really good, but if even one goes iffy, the whole thing goes iffy. The...
