Why is Dwyane Wade wearing a mouthpiece?

Heat Zone | Palm Beach Post — It took 10 seasons together, but Dwyane Wade is finally looking a little more like Udonis Haslem. “I’m a gum chewer,” Wade said. Yet, at the start of this series, he started wearing something that Haslem has always worn, and is often seen taking out and putting back in: A mouthpiece. “I’ve been getting hit in the mouth too mouth, and I’ve been getting a lot of cuts in my mouth and I can’t eat during the week,” Wade said. “Getting hit in the mouth, and having to deal with these cuts in your mouth for two weeks, it’s torture.” Is the change just for this series? “No, this is forever,” Wade said....

From experience, Udonis Haslem respects Derrick Rose’s right to decide

Heat Zone | Palm Beach Post — When Udonis Haslem tore a ligament in his left foot in late November of 2011, it wasn’t clear that he would play again that season. It was never a question, of course, of whether he wanted to. So he seemed an appropriate person to query, about Derrick Rose’s decision to stay off the court, more than one year after knee surgery, and more than two months after receiving medical clearance. “It’s going to be totally up to him,” Haslem said. “Nobody on the outside can tell him when he’s ready, or how he feels, physically or more important, mentally. That’s the thing that you’ve got to get past, is ...

Udonis Haslem was burglarized in April

Heat Zone | Palm Beach Post — While the Heat were taking victories from opponents in April, people were taking items from their homes. You’ve probably heard about Chris Bosh being victimized on April 4, with $340,000 in valuables removed while he and his wife were hosting a party on Miami Beach. Officers investigated it as an inside job, by someone working in the house. Not widely known: While Udonis Haslem was out on April 13, an off night between Heat home games, his  Broward County house was targeted by burglars. Officers responded to an alarm, went to the house and reached Haslem. They found signs of forced entry at th...

Udonis Haslem, not Shane Battier, will start

Heat Zone | Palm Beach Post — In what represented a bit of a surprise — if only because of some of the innuendo coming out of Heat headquarters — Udonis Haslem will get the start in Game 1 of the 2013 playoffs. That makes it likely that Erik Spoelstra will stay with something close to the rotation during the 27-game streak: Battier, Chris Andersen, Ray Allen and Norris Cole off the bench. And that would mean few, if any, minutes for Mike Miller or Rashard Lewis. But, again, that could change as the series plays out.
