Four things we learned from the Mavericks' 114-117 loss vs. the Thunder

The Mavericks lose a close one to OKC. This was a scrappy, fast-paced, back-and-forth game, at times more fun than a loss had any right to be. In fact, there were a few throwbacks to last year's incredibly fun team, including (at times) better than 60 percent field goal percentage, athletic feats by springy young big men, and dramatic third quarter swings. Unfortunately, Zaza Pachulia missed three of four free throws in the last three minutes, Dion Waiters did some very un-Dion Waiters things, and despite Wes Matthews' best late-game efforts, the Thunder were able to put the game...

Zaza Pachulia is a near-perfect fit with the Mavericks

Forget this summer. Pachulia is providing everything Dallas could ask out of him and more. When the Dallas Mavericks sent a future second round pick to the Milwaukee Bucks for Zaza Pachulia, it was seen as a last-ditch effort to find someone remotely capable of starting at center. The Georgian native, entering the final year of a three-year, $15.6-million contract, had spent the past two seasons of his 12-year career with the Bucks as a backup center and decent role player. Adding a damper to the acquisition was the fact that Pachulia had never been an incredible rebounder, averaging about...

Sorry, NBA. The Mavericks are a professional dodgeball team now

It was inevitable this summer as we began to see how Mark Cuban was constructing the team. Going after pure athletes like Jeremy Evans and Justin Anderson while nabbing crafty Zaza Pachulia should have tipped us off. When Cuban picked up Deron Williams, though removed from his prime, it was very clear what his long term plans were ... The Mavericks were going to become a professional dodgeball team. And now it's officially happened. DODGEBALL!!!! #Repost @mr.shedd ・・・ Awesome... All that can be said #youcandodgeawrenchyoucandodgeaball A video posted by Dallas Mavericks...

Mavericks use 'grit' to beat Lakers

It wasn't pretty but the Mavs dug deep and pulled out a W. Rick Carlisle On the play of Zaza Pachulia and Dwight Powell Both those guys are playing big on the inside. Zaza's position defense on some of these guys has been great. The other night [Blake] Griffin, tonight Randle. He's been tremendous. Tonight, 16 boards, Powell 12 boards. You know, Powell had a big couple of rebounds on the last couple of possessions. In those situations, if it's a miss, the ball gets kicked around and somebody gets a wide open 3. Coming up with those [rebounds] is big. Our energy guys had good numbers...

Charlotte Hornets at Dallas Mavericks game preview

The Charlotte Hornets head into Dallas coming off of their first win of the season at home. Can they get their first road win of the season on Thursday night? Remember when we thought the Dallas Mavericks were going to finally slide towards the dregs of the Western Conference? Wesley Matthews wasn't supposed to be back yet, Deron Williams had sustained his annual lower body injury in September, and the team figured that Zaza Pachulia + JaVale McGee= DeAndre Jordan. Well, now the Mavericks are 2-2 with Matthews and Williams healthy, plus a revitalized Dirk Nowitzki. It's not entirely unfair...
