Aftermath: Suns upbeat despite the loss to the Cavaliers

Aftermath: Suns upbeat despite the loss to the Cavaliers

Will a great showing from the Suns last night lead to more consistent play going forward? Everyone says that moral victories are nothing to hang your hat on in sports, but I am going to go the other way with that distinction. Last night’s game was a great example of a loss that can be used as a building block for a young team still finding its way. To come back from a 22-point deficit against a team spearheaded by LeBron James is no easy feat, and the Suns teased the fan base of potentially brighter days to come. Eric Bledsoe shared a similar perspective after the game, “I’m mad we...

Fear the Newsletter: The Cavs held on in Phoenix

Fear the Newsletter: The Cavs held on in Phoenix

That and more in today’s newsletter. Here's today's Fear the Newsletter, where we will always try to set you up like Kyrie passing to LeBron off the glass. TALK TO ME: The Cavs lead by as many as 20 before winning by six against the Suns. It wasn't a particularly perfect game, but a win is a win. And it was clear that the Cavs were way, way, way better than the Suns when they were fully functioning. LEGEND HAS IT: Today is a travel day to Utah. And Kyle Korver's first full day with the Cavs. As of now, he's expected to debut Tuesday against the Jazz. But since Mike Dunleavy has yet to...

Cavs 120, Suns 116; Jason Lloyd's 15 thoughts on ball movement, turnovers and Michael Phelps

PHOENIX: Fifteen thoughts for 15 assists in Sunday’s 120-116 win over the Phoenix Suns…, 1.     The Cavs are 2-0 on this six-game road trip, but they’re making it much more difficult on themselves than it needs to be. They’ve blown big leads against two of the worst teams in the league and both nights had to slug out a win in the fourth quarter. 2.     Friday at Brooklyn, the Cavs led by 24 with 16 minutes left in the game, but let the Nets get within seven late in the fourth quarter. Sunday was even more egregious. They led by 20 with 9:43 left in the third quarter and...

Final Score: Cavaliers eke out 120-116 win against Suns

Final Score: Cavaliers eke out 120-116 win against Suns

The Cavaliers nearly blew a 20-point lead, but still came out on top against the Suns on the road. Despite losing a 20-point lead to start the second half, the Cavaliers held on in a closely fought game in Phoenix to open up their west coast road trip with a 120-116 win. The Cavs appeared to be cruising to a comfortable win on the road in Phoenix with a 69-53 lead at the half, but the were caught flat-footed in the third quarter by a Suns’ 25-7 run. The Suns tied the game in the third, 90-90, before a buzzer beater three-pointer from Irving regained the lead for the Cavs. The Suns’...

Phoenix Suns rally before LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers pull away for win

The result might have been predictable, and that was before the reigning NBA champions built a 22-point first-half lead. But the Suns showed something Sunday night, even if the scoreboard reflected otherwise.

Cavaliers 120, Suns 116: Cavs build big lead, hold on to eclipse Suns

PHOENIX: The lead was 20 with 22 minutes left against one of the league’s worst teams, yet somehow the Cavaliers played themselves into the position of needing big baskets from their stars down the stretch to escape Phoenix with a 120-116 victory Sunday. Consecutive 3-pointers by LeBron James, including one from 27 feet, extended the Cavs’ lead to 115-109 with under three minutes to play. His driving layup in the final minute stretched the lead to 120-114 and seemingly put the game away. It was a victory, but it was much more difficult than necessary. With newest acquisition Kyle Korver...

Phoenix Suns start slow, rally late, but fall to the Cleveland Cavaliers 120-116

Michael freaking Phelps was in the building! You know it is going to be a fun night when you can feel the buzz in the crowd an hour and a half before the game — the kind of buzz that makes every former high school athlete feel the juices of yesteryear. But that’s what happens when one of the greatest players of all-time takes his talents on the road; people get excited, and parking escalates from $5 to $15 without any questions asked. You’ve made it. You get to see LeBron play live. For much of the first half, it felt like the Suns were spectators to greatness as well, allowing a...

Cavaliers notebook: Kyle Korver joins Cavs in Phoenix, can’t play until Hawks satisfy obligations of trade

PHOENIX: Kyle Korver sat in the trainer’s room Sunday saying hello to old faces and new alike. Larry Drew, his old coach with the Hawks, stopped in to say hello. So did LeBron James, Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye. That’s the extent of Korver’s availability, at least for now. Korver couldn’t play and wasn’t even permitted to sit on the Cavaliers bench for their game against the Phoenix Suns. The Cavs have satisfied all of their obligations, but the Atlanta Hawks have not. Mike Dunleavy has yet to report to the Hawks because he wants a buyout, ESPN.com reported Sunday. The Hawks...

TALK TO ME: Kyle Korver is officially a Cavalier and the likeliest day for his debut is Tuesday in Utah. For those wanting to get Korver merch, it looks like he'll be wearing No. 26 in Cleveland. In other news, Jordan McRae is sticking around, at least past the date for his contract to become guaranteed. LEGEND HAS IT: The Cavs continue to their road trip tonight in Phoenix. Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Phoenix Suns: start time, tv info, preview

Kyle Korver isn’t suiting up yet, but the Cavs should be fine anyway The game before the addition. Kyle Korver’s presence should help the Cavs out in ways big and small, but he’s not playing for the Cavs just yet. There’s no such thing as too much shooting in today’s NBA, and few have ever done it better than Korver. The Cavs have been starved for depth for much of the season. Mike Dunleavy wasn’t the addition everyone hoped for, Channing Frye can’t quite defend for long stretches, and Kay Felder and Jordan McRae have turned out to be young players who go through ups and downs...
