All-Star Weekend Roundup

All-Star Weekend Roundup

Things of note regarding the Sixers from the All-Star Weekend festivities Rising Stars Challenge Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Dario Saric competed as members of Team World in the 2018 Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night. Similar to the All-Star game, the Rising Stars Challenge shouldn’t be taken too seriously. With that said, the Sixers promising young talent was evident. Simmons tallied a stat line of 11 pts, 6 reb, 13 ast, 4 stl. Saric dropped 18 pts and tacked on 5 ast. Embiid only played 9 minutes to score 5 points, but he also did this: L'Unico acuto di @JoelEmbiid stanotte, uno...

Simmons missing the All-Star game may actually be a good thing

Simmons missing the All-Star game may actually be a good thing

Everyone knows Ben Simmons was deserving of a roster spot on the All-Star team, but him missing out on the game may prove to be a good thing. Ben Simmons is really good at what he does and is only getting better. Yes, he probably definitely deserved a spot on the All Star team, especially after the onslaught of injuries by players picked over him, but sometimes things just don’t go your way. If Simmons’ first season so far as a professional has shown anything, it’s that this will not be the only shot he has at making an All Star team in his career. While Sixers fans may be clamoring...

Liberty Ballers 2018 NBA All-Star Game Reaction Thread

Liberty Ballers 2018 NBA All-Star Game Reaction Thread

Joel Embiid makes his All-Star debut tonight as Team Stephen squares off against Team LeBron in the 2018 All-Star Game. Let's just be honest... Let's just be real.... All-Star Weekend 2018 has been bit underwhelming so far. Friday's Rising Stars game had its moments, but last night's slate of events generated little buzz in the NBA world at-large. Hopefully, that all changes tonight. Joel Embiid (who may or may not still have the tags on his shorts) will suit up for Team Stephen and square off against Team LeBron in the highly-anticipated 2018 NBA All-Star Game. Embiid's appearance will...

Liberty Ballers All-Star Saturday Night Reaction Thread

Liberty Ballers All-Star Saturday Night Reaction Thread

Fresh off his brief run in the Rising Stars game, Joel Embiid has his sights set on the Skills Challenge. Night One of All-Star Weekend is in the books, and if you tuned in last night... we REALLY hope you skipped that dreadful Celebrity Game. Conversely, the Rising Stars game was pretty darn entertaining. While it quickly devolved into a defense-optional dunkfest (and a 155-124 Team World victory), we saw some amazing performances from Sixers’ representatives Ben Simmons (11 points, 13 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) and Dario Saric (18 points, including 4-for-7 shooting from deep). Joel...

Liberty Ballers’ All-Star Friday Night Reaction Thread

Liberty Ballers’ All-Star Friday Night Reaction Thread

Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Dario Saric are all set to start for the World Team in the flagship event of All-Star Friday Night For the next three days, the City of Angels is the epicenter of the NBA universe as All-Star Weekend 2018 kicks off tonight in Los Angeles. First up on today’s agenda is the All-Star Celebrity Game (presented by Ruffles!) filled with actors, former players, current WNBA stars, and some folks that I’ve never heard of in my life. (For the record, Win Butler of Arcade Fire tries WAY too hard in these things - he’s like the new Arne Duncan.) The clear highlight...

Sixers Extinguish 24 Point Deficit, Defeat the Heat Without Joel Embiid

Sixers Extinguish 24 Point Deficit, Defeat the Heat Without Joel Embiid

Sixers pull a 180 and storm back in very Un-Sixer like fashion Wow, where do we begin? The Philadelphia 76ers found out about a half hour before the game that they would be without All-Star Center Joel Embiid. That seemed to demoralize the Sixers squad as they came out in the first half looking extremely flat and completely disoriented on both ends of the court. Three technical fouls were dished out to the Sixers over the course of the game, as TJ McConnell, JJ Redick, and Dario Saric were all flagged with techs. Going in to halftime, it seemed like there was no shot that the Sixers could...

Ben Simmons’ ROY Bid is Losing Steam

Ben Simmons’ ROY Bid is Losing Steam

With the Utah Jazz streaking, Donovan Mitchell is turning heads. The Utah Jazz’ Donovan Mitchell, the former Louisville guard selected 13th overall in the 2017 NBA draft, is gaining a lot of momentum in the Rookie of the Year race. After starting 19-28 due to battling injuries, the Jazz have ripped off 10 straight wins and now sit just 1.5 games behind the New Orleans Pelicans for the 8 seed in the Western Conference. Mitchell, who leads the Jazz in points (19.5) and minutes (32.0), has been a crucial part of his team’s success. Mitchell’s play is giving Ben Simmons’ Rookie of the...

True Grit: 76ers Beat the Knicks 108-92

True Grit: 76ers Beat the Knicks 108-92

...you lose like the rest. Last night’s game became a movie in its final minutes. While the 76ers were firmly ahead of the Knicks, drama unfolded in another way as a triple-double alert was raised. Yet, it wasn’t Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid or Dario Saric, the three young stars, that were the subject to that alert. They were on the sideline cheering on with anticipation. No, it was the embodiment of grit that was on the verge of the accomplishment. When he finally went up and caught the final rebound for the feat, the bench and crowd erupted. Water and chocolate milk (!) baths were going...

An(other) Announcement from Liberty Ballers

An(other) Announcement from Liberty Ballers

Introducing Liberty Ballers’ new Site Manager Good afternoon. My name is Kevin F. Love. I use my middle initial because “Kevin Love” and “NBA” could possibly yield undesired results in a google search. I am in my early twenties. I am slightly balding. I am inundated with student debt. And I recently began renting a house that I cannot afford. All of these less than ideal circumstances are exacerbated by the fact that I follow the Philadelphia 76ers with an extraordinary amount of angst and nausea. Someone decided those characteristics qualify me to run Liberty Ballers. The good...

76ers-Knicks Post-Game Thread!

76ers-Knicks Post-Game Thread!

When you mess with the best... Not all games are going to go as expected and none of them are ever easy, even if one team has more talent than the other. Coming into tonight, the 76ers were trying to strengthen their hold on their playoff spot and for a while, the Knicks made it a bout. It was a sloppy affair, full of some careless turnovers and lazy defense, the two biggest reasons for the 76ers struggles this year. On top of that was Joel Embiid having a pretty “average” night by his standards (which was still 17 points and 6 boards). Yet after allowing the Knicks to stick around...

76ers vs Knicks Preview/Game Thread: It’s February and the games still matter!

76ers vs Knicks Preview/Game Thread: It’s February and the games still matter!

Stop Taking Away Our Stars, BasketBa’al! This season has been tough in terms of injuries. As 76ers fans, we know how debilitating losing a star can be for the outlook of the team and organization as a whole. Unfortunately, the New York Knicks are feeling that same pain as their unicorn, Kristaps Porzingis, is out for the rest of the year after tearing his left ACL last week. Regional rivals or not, it’s just a damn shame that injuries are sapping the league of some of its best talent. While it will be some time before we see Porizingis out on the floor, the Knicks will have to move on....

Sixers Agree To Deal With Marco Belinelli

Sixers Agree To Deal With Marco Belinelli

The Philadelphia 76ers bolstered their rather thin bench by agreeing to a deal with former Atlanta Hawks shooting guard Marco Belinelli. Shortly after the Philadelphia 76ers ripped off their seventh straight home victory Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski dropped one of his customary bombs: Guard Marco Belinelli has committed to the Philadelphia 76ers to sign a free agent contract, league sources tell ESPN. Belinelli agreed to a buyout with the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, and can sign with the Sixers upon clearing waivers.— Adrian Wojnarowski...

Sixers defeat the Clippers 112-98, take the season series

Sixers defeat the Clippers 112-98, take the season series

The Sixers pulled out a win, but not before we all had a Joel Embiid induced heart attack. The Sixers beat the LA Clippers 112—98 tonight, extending their win streak to 7 games at home. The Sixers played well all game, leading by 16 at one point. However, the game never felt out of reach for the Clippers. This was made more evident after Joel Embiid went out in the 4th with an apparent knee injury and the Clippers were able to pull within two points with 6:05 left to play in the game. Luckily, the Sixers were able to hold on and pull out the win. What was almost the top story of the game...

Sixers Lead Wire-To-Wire, Defeat Pelicans 100-82

Sixers Lead Wire-To-Wire, Defeat Pelicans 100-82

The Philadelphia 76ers rolled the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, winning 100-82 for their sixth straight win at the Wells Fargo Center. The Philadelphia 76ers rolled the New Orleans Pelicans 100-82 on Friday night, but don’t let the final score fool you: This one was essentially over from the opening tip. Joel Embiid was a question mark during warmups due to a sore ankle, but he showed no ill effects of his injury during a 16-point, six-rebound first quarter that ended with the Sixers up 18. And when Embiid (who personally outscored the Pelicans 16-14 in the first 12 minutes) wasn’t...

76ers-Pelicans Game Preview/Thread: The More Things Change

76ers-Pelicans Game Preview/Thread: The More Things Change

The Sixers attempt to keep the home magic going as the square off against the New Orleans Pelicans at the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night. Before we preview the events of tonight, let’s first discuss the non-events of the past 30 hours, shall we? While the Cleveland Cavaliers spent most of yesterday going full Extreme Home Makeover, the Philadelphia 76ers stood pat at the trade deadline. A rumored deal for Grizzlies swingman Tyreke Evans never came to fruition, but if the rumored asking price of Dario Saric was legit, the Sixers were right to pass on making a move. More importantly,...

NBA Trade Deadline Open Thread

NBA Trade Deadline Open Thread

Oh yeah, there’s a trade deadline... If you’re an Eagles like me, you haven’t stopped indulging in content related to the SUPER BOWL CHAMPION Philadelphia Eagles. The party continues on Thursday, when there will finally be a parade down Broad Street for the good guys in midnight green. Of course, as that is all going on, the NBA reaches another critical juncture as the trade deadline is finally upon. At 3pm EST, it’s pencils down as GM’s either make transactions for a playoff run or for other short and long term reasons. While the 76ers have been reportedly on the market for some...

Sixers Hold Off Wizards, Refuse to Blow Another Lead

Sixers Hold Off Wizards, Refuse to Blow Another Lead

Sixers make up for clumsy turnovers with excellent three point shooting. They did it. The Philadelphia 76ers went up 20 points on a team, and didn’t blow the lead. A big game from the starters powered the Sixers to a 115-102 victory over the Washington Wizards. There was a lot of good to come out of this game, but that elephant in the room in still here, 17 turnovers for the Sixers were the only thing holding this team back from demolishing the Wizards. The Sixers didn’t neccesarily have a “meltdown” quarter like they usually do, instead it was an occasional run by the Wizards...

The Sixers are outpaced by Indiana, fall 100-92

The Sixers are outpaced by Indiana, fall 100-92

Back-to-back Embiid doesn’t mean back-to-back wins The Sixers fall to the Indiana Pacers 100-92 in a frustrating game with, shockingly, a second-half collapse. The momentum shifted many times in a game with six lead changes, but the Pacers ran away with it at the end, assisted by 7 of the Sixers turnovers that came in the fourth quarter. Joel Embiid played in the first back-to-back game of his career and put up a strong performance. After a slow start, in which he sometimes looked sluggish, Embiid came back into the game after the bench went on a 16-7 run to tie the game at 51. He seemed...
