Is PJ Washington actually Alex Poythress 2.0?

Is PJ Washington actually Alex Poythress 2.0?

The frustration has mounted around the inconsistency. I have such a hard time figuring out what’s up with PJ Washington. I mean, we’re talking about a former five-star, top-20 recruit who has shown the ability to dominate college basketball. And yet he’s so inconsistent and, for lack of a better word, invisible at times. For the longest time I wondered what was wrong. I wondered if there was a player who he was comparable to. I thought at some point he’ll turn that motor on and never shut it off. I assumed he’d become a very good college basketball player, and a serviceable NBA...

4 Wildcats listed in ESPN Draft Stock top 50

Ashton Hagans is rising, while another Wildcat in inching closer toward first-round territory. With each update, NBA Draft projections get more interesting for the Kentucky Wildcats. While Keldon Johnson and PJ Washington have been the only two Wildcats consistently listed in mock drafts, two of their teammates join them in the top 50 of ESPN’s new NBA Draft Stock Watch. Johnson and Washington remain as the only two Kentucky players in first round range, but Tyler Herro and Ashton Hagans have worked their way into the NBA Draft discussion. No other current Kentucky Wildcats appear in...

Big Men Problems: What’s wrong with PJ and Reid?

Big Men Problems: What’s wrong with PJ and Reid?

It’s been a rough couple of games for the Wildcats’ frontcourt. Kentucky is 3-1 in their last four games, but it hasn’t been because of the play of their two starting big men. Both Reid Travis and PJ Washington have been in offensive slumps which have made for significant struggles for the Kentucky offense. Washington and Travis each only have one double-digit scoring game each in the last four games, as Washington went for 15 and Travis went for 12 in Kentucky’s loss to Alabama on January 5th. But other than that, neither has scored more than Washington’s nine against Texas...

The Wildcats talkabout how they can get to 2-1 in SEC play. The No. 18 Kentucky Wildcats are coming off their first win of the 2019 SEC, defeating Texas A&M 85-74 on Tuesday. The performance was far better than the one Kentucky put together in Tuscaloosa last Saturday in their SEC opening loss to Alabama, but the Cats got off to another slow start and still have plenty to improve upon. Kentucky’s next SEC opponent is the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday night at 8:30 pm EST at Rupp Arena. Today, assistant coach Joel Justus, point guard Ashton Hagans, and forward PJ Washington spoke to...

Only 2 Wildcats in new ESPN mock draft

Only 2 Wildcats in new ESPN mock draft

Perhaps a sign that Kentucky will have a lot of returning players next season. While there is still plenty of the college hoops season left, this is shaping up to be one of the more interesting NBA Draft classes in the John Calipari. Rarely have the Kentucky Wildcats ever had as many fringe NBA prospects in January like they do right now. While Keldon Johnson looks like a clear first-round pick this year, no one else has been able to leave no doubt they’ll be a first-round pick if they come out. PJ Washington has had enough good moments to think he’ll sneak into the end of Round 1, but...

Kentucky beats Louisville: ESPN 680 Victory Podcast

It was L’s down in the Ville. The Kentucky Wildcats left no doubt as they left the Yum! Center. They handed the Louisville Cardinals yet another double-digit loss, 71-58. That’s now consecutive years in which the Cats have thumped the Cards by more than ten points. As you could probably guess, the UK Postgame show was a blast over on ESPN 680 as Jason Ence and I took calls, texts, and tweets from fans. Here is what we discussed: Tyler Herro was the her Kentucky needed and deserved Ashton Hagans is coming to his own and UK is a better team with him on the floor PJ Washington...

Highlights, Box Score and Game MVP from Kentucky dominating Louisville (again)

Highlights, Box Score and Game MVP from Kentucky dominating Louisville (again)

This Kentucky team is definitely headed in the right direction. The Kentucky Wildcats comfortably defeated the Louisville Cardinals in the annual rivalry game on Saturday with a score of 71-58. Kentucky’s lead hovered around the ten point mark for most of the game before pulling away late in the second half to a lead as high as 16. The Wildcats were led in scoring by Tyler Herro with 24 points, while PJ Washington dominated the paint with eight rebounds and four blocks. One thing you cannot measure is effort, and the entire Kentucky roster played their hearts out on Saturday. Kentucky was...

How this season could be a bridge to something special for Kentucky

How this season could be a bridge to something special for Kentucky

I know delayed gratification isn’t really BBN’s thing, but hear me out. Yes, I know this season was supposed to be special. The Bahamas trip got everyone hyped, and now the deflation has led to anger and frustration from Kentucky basketball fans. And I realize “wait til next year” is not an adage that Big Blue Nation will ever own, but this season could lead to something special not just next year, but on down the line. Reid Travis is gone. Keldon Johnson would probably be wise to enter the NBA Draft. PJ Washington is very unlikely to return for a junior season. Other than that,...
