Jemarl Baker finding his role, and Calipari says he changed the game vs. Texas A&M

Jemarl Baker finding his role, and Calipari says he changed the game vs. Texas A&M

The rise of Jemarl Baker has been a pleasant surprise for the 2018-19 Wildcats. Jemarl Baker continues to show he deserves a significant role with this team. After missing all of his first year and the early part of this season, the redshirt freshman has quickly turned into an asset for a Kentucky team that needed someone to step up following Quade Green’s transfer. Thus far, Baker has not only been a legitimate three-point threat, but he’s also playing solid defense and passing the ball well. In 13 minutes of action vs. Texas A&M, Baker had four points on 1/3 shooting with one...

Kentucky is starting to get good production from both of its point guards

Kentucky is starting to get good production from both of its point guards

With Quade Green departing, it’s allowed Quickley to speed up his development. The Kentucky Wildcats may have lost Saturday, but there was a bright spot that could bode well for the rest of the season. Despite the near come back at the end of the game, Kentucky trailed Alabama by 8+ for the better part of the last five minutes. The shots just weren’t falling for the Wildcats, and any time they did, Alabama came right back on the other end to negate it. The ball looked a bit flat Saturday with the team, as their FG% and 3PT% were 43.1% and 27.8%, respectively. While the play as a team...

Jemarl Baker already getting a bigger role following Quade Green transfer

Baker may even be taking minutes from Immanuel Quickley. With sophomore point guard Quade Green transferring out during the midst of Kentucky’s season, the “next man up” mentality turned towards Jemarl Baker. True freshman Immanuel Quickley was assumed to receive a sizable portion of what were Green’s minutes, but instead, both Baker and Quickley played the same amount (15) of minutes against North Carolina. The redshirt freshman guard actually ended up playing more in the second (8 minutes) than Quickley (5) and was even getting crunch time minutes. Neither did much offensively...

Has Ashton Hagans “Shai’d” Immanuel Quickley?

Has Ashton Hagans “Shai’d” Immanuel Quickley?

Quickley is becoming an afterthought after being UK’s starting point guard early on. During the start of last season, both Quade Green and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shared Kentucky’s point guard duties as freshman. Green, a top-five point guard in the class, started while Shai, one of the more unheralded players in his class, came off the bench in exercising his ability to play on both ends of the floor. However, an injury to Green opened the door for Gilgeous-Alexander to start and the underrated freshman exploded onto the scene as Kentucky’s best player the rest of the way. In fact,...

Highlights, Box Score and Game MVP from Kentucky knocking off North Carolina

Keldon Johnson and Reid Travis were unstoppable. The Kentucky Wildcats knocked off the North Carolina Tar Heels Saturday night 80-72. The Cats came ready to play. Hagans was a defensive menace and Reid Travis was absolutely dominant. Johnson was a monster per usual. UK went into the half with a 40-31 lead over the Tar Heels and never looked back. Herro seemed like a liability early on, but he turned it around after half. He finally got it going and he proved that he’s one of the team’s best passers. He wasn’t terrible on the defensive end, either. Jemarl took Quade Green’s minutes....
