Alabama Crimson Tide at South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball: Gamecocks rout Tide again

Gamecocks win another easy one. After winning 102-59 in Tuscaloosa a few weeks ago, Dawn Staley's Gamecocks again had no trouble handling the Alabama Crimson Tide in Columbia this evening, winning 85-54. The Tide kept this one interesting for the first five minutes of the game, maintaining a tie until the 14:06 mark. It was all Gamecocks from there on out, though, as Carolina would score the next 12 points and never look back. Individually, A'ja Wilson led Carolina with 17 points. Alaina Coates also had another good night, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 boards. She currently leads the...

Maryland-Ohio State final score: 3 things we learned from loss to the Buckeyes

Maryland suffered another blowout loss on the road to a Big Ten team. The Maryland Terrapins suffered their third Big Ten loss of the season Thursday evening, as they were blown out by Ohio State in Columbus, 80 to 56. An inability to consistently score on offense, defend against the three, and rebound doomed Maryland, who fell to 18-4 on the season. Maryland once again struggled on offense to begin the game, not making a field goal from the floor until the 12:29 mark of the first half, when freshman Michal Cekovsky made an uncontested dunk. Ohio State's zone defense stymied the Terps'...

Arizona basketball: Wildcats vs. Oregon State time, TV, and preview

Arizona looks to avenge itself from an upset loss to the Beavers earlier this month. Revenge will play a vital role as the sixth-ranked Wildcats face Oregon State at McKale Center Friday evening. The 14-6 Beavers handed Arizona its only conference loss 58-56 a couple weeks ago in Corvallis, OR in one of this season's most notable upsets. "Against Oregon State it's about turnovers and being able to generate great shots," said Arizona Coach Sean Miller. "Not just behind the arc but in and around the basket. (OSU is) very good at defending the basket." The Wildcats were held to a...

NBAHawks (1/08-1/28)

A look at the Jayhawks who now ply their trade in The Association. Here we go again! This edition is going to be all about the games within the window in the post's title, so unless I explicitly state a time-frame for a stat, assume all figures are from that three-week window. All rankings are determined by the RCT NBAHawks czar and are to be considered the direct voice of the Basketball Gods for whom he is the direct conduit on Earth. Please address all qualms to those deities with your next sacrifice of an unblemished lamb (or two doves if you're struggling to find a lamb) and they'll get...

Halftime Update: Cincy 30 UConn 22

Avert your eyes. Or open wider if you love defense and gross basketball If you enjoyed this first half of basketball, you my friend are a masochist. The fact that UConn only trails by 8 is either a miracle or a glaring indictment of the averageness of the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Huskies committed 13 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes and shot just 8-25 from the field. Cincy has really been swarming all night, not allowing any penetration from UConn guards. Ryan Boatright was completely invisible, scoring just 2 points and going 0-5 from the field and he committed 3 turnovers. No UConn...

Men's basketball recap: Rutgers loses big at the RAC to Michigan State 71-51

Eddie Jordan is having a tough time in the new conference this year. The Wisconsin game feels so long ago at this point. After getting destroyed on the road in Happy Valley, Rutgers continues to struggle in Big Ten play as they lose convincingly to Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans 71-51 at home. The Knights got as close to a four-point deficit with a little less than ten minutes to go in the first half, and never really made it a competitive game beyond that point. Sparty completely dominated in almost every aspect of the game, as they shot over 50% from the field and 40% from...

UConn Men's Basketball Game Thread: UConn vs Cincinnati, TV: ESPN2 8p.m.

The Huskies look to extend their win streak to three as they travel to Cincy. Join the conversation for a chance to win two (2) tickets to a UConn Men's Hockey game next week! In a season full of ups and downs, the UConn Huskies enter tonight's affair with an 11-7 record, 4-2 in conference play. Winners of their last two, UConn has been playing well of late. They look to make it three in a row, but in their way is a tough Cincinnati Bearcats (14-5, 5-2 AAC) team. Earlier this month, these two sides met in Hartford. Battling an 11 a.m. tip-off, UConn got off to a rocky start before...

Top-100 prospect Kris Boyd set to pick between Texas, Texas A&M

The Longhorns look to be in excellent position to earn a "Let's Ride" from head coach Charlie Strong on Friday. At some point on Friday, Gilmer cornerback Kris Boyd will end his recruitment when he chooses between the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies. The 6'0, 185-pounder set his commitment date earlier in the week with Houston Lamar cornerback Holton Hill, his close friend who will also pledge on Friday. When Boyd does announce, it will end a process already extended once -- he originally planned to make his decision on Christmas Day, but decided to push it back. "I just felt like it...

Iowa has wrestled Minnesota more than any other program -- and lately the rivalry has been better than ever. In wrestling, like football and like basketball, Iowa has several rivals.  Iowa has never been like Michigan State, who treasures its hate with Michigan above all else, or Ohio State, who also treasures its hate with Michigan above all else.  (Maybe Michigan is just real asshole-y.)  Iowa has never been like Navy, who prioritizes its showdowns with Army above all else.  Iowa has no equivalent to Duke and North Carolina in basketball or (in days gone by) UConn and Tennessee in...

Matt Canada agrees to three-year contract extension with NC State, per report

NC State offensive coordinator Matt Canada has agreed to a three-year extension with the Wolfpack, according to a report from The Wolfpacker. Rumors in recent days have suggested that Canada was a possible candidate to fill Tennessee's vacant OC position. Prior to this extension, Canada was making $500,000 per season, which made him one of the 10 highest-paid assistant coaches in the ACC, and third among ACC offensive coordinators. No doubt his extension is coming with a raise, and that combined with a couple of high-profile departures (Tom O'Brien to retirement, Chad Morris to SMU as head...

Kansas To Wear "Heritage Classic" Uniform

Let's dive into some of the sweet details of these 1988 throwbacks. Adidas is really doing the KU basketball program proud these days.  I've already discussed the great looking threads that make up KU's primary home and away jerseys, and we all know how awesome the faux-backs look, so let's take a closer look at the Jayhawks' fifth uniform for 2015. Adidas likes the idea of honoring the past as they have already rolled out some nice looking duds for Louisville to honor their title teams of the early 1980's, so honoring Kansas seems like a logical (should've been the first) choice as...

Arizona vs Oregon Final Score: Arizona completes season sweep in blowout victory

Behind contributions from a handful of players the Wildcats rolled to a second victory over Oregon. Still atop the Pac-12, next up is the Oregon State Beavers and a chance at payback. Perhaps it was the wakeup call Arizona needed. Ever since the home series against the mountain schools and more notably the Utah game, the Wildcats have been playing the elite level basketball you would expect from a team that was among the short list of preseason national title contenders. After opening the first half of the season with redundant subpar play, none moreso than two head-scratching losses to...

Bulldogs Ranked #25 in Coaches Poll

John Cohen's club found itself ranked in another preseason poll. Opening day is now only 15 days away. Another College Baseball preseason poll is out, and Mississippi State eked its way into the rankings. The USA Today Coaches Poll has the Bulldogs at #25. The initial ranking for the Diamond Dogs continue to be all over the place. They have been anywhere from #14 to unranked. Only one major poll has yet to release its preseason top 25, and that is the NCBWA, or the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Only 15 days remain until the start of the 2015 College Baseball season when...

ASU Football Recruit, Reggie Jackson, Homers on First Pitch of ASU Baseball Try-Outs

ASU Football Recruit, Reggie Jackson, Homers on First Pitch of ASU Baseball Try-Outs … And the rest, they say, is history.
