CT Pan Wins Again

Ace golfer records his second win of the season, but UW finishes fourth. I know that Readers of this blog don't all follow Men's Golf too closely, but I hope that they are paying some attention to CT Pan and the legend that he is assembling in his time at UW.  In short, he's been remarkable. The senior racked up his second win of the season and his sixth all time in leading the #19 Washington Men's Golf team to a fourth place finish at the Quaerencia Cabo Collegiate tournament.  Despite having three golfers finish in the top 10 of the individual standings, UW still finished behind #2...

ASU Baseball: Sun Devils shut out against Diamondbacks

Arizona State was blanked 4-0 in Tuesday's exhibition. Arizona State struggled to gain its footing at the plate on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but an offensive breakout wasn't exactly expected from the Sun Devils. Nor was it needed. The exhibition defeat will not count against their loss column, and more important than the result was the fact that the players wearing maroon and gold got to go up against a major league ball club. "It was just a cool experience to be a part of," said first baseman Ryan Lillard. "I wasn't too nervous because it was just a scrimmage." The meeting...

WVU Nearly Stuns Kansas Without Staten & Browne, Fall In OT 76-69

West Virginia almost pulled off one of the more improbable wins in school history before falling to the Jayhawks in OT. Kansas had one 32 straight home finales. Nobody had ever swept Kansas in the regular season in the Bill Self era. And yet, even without Juwan Staten and Gary Browne, the Mountaineers came dangerously close to breaking both streaks. Behind a remarkable effort from several Mountaineers, West Virginia (22-8) nearly pulled the upset of Kansas (24-6), before falling in overtime 76-69. The Mountaineers gave an unbelievable effort in the first half. West Virginia, without what...

Growing up far from home: Michigan 78 - Northwestern 82 2OT

Michigan once again lost in extra time thanks to a similar combination of mistakes and scoring droughts. In the time since Michigan lost Caris LeVert to injury, it has been the same story: Michigan's unheralded youth and cast of role players both excite and ignite -- sometimes into flames. Michigan has gone into overtime four times in the last ten games.  All four of those have been losses, and embarrassingly so.  This one spared Michigan the lopsided score after the first 40, but brought that much more pain as Michigan had the game all but wrapped up twice and let it slip away thanks to...

The first half was ugly at both ends, with neither team finding any sort of rhythm...

ASU Baseball: Former Sun Devils Tuffy Gosewisch, Jake Barrett reflect on time at ASU

With the Diamondbacks and Sun Devils playing in an exhibition game Tuesday afternoon, it gave two former Devils the chance to look back at their time at ASU. A crowd of 6,655 that split its allegiances to both teams gathered at Salt River Fields to watch ASU baseball take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. While the game didn't matter to either team's standings, it was an opportunity for a few former Sun Devils to get a chance to play their alma mater. "It's a blast, when I was there, I would have loved to play the Diamondbacks," Dbacks catcher Tuffy Gosewisch said. "Really fun to go out there...

NMSU vs. Arizona baseball final score: Wildcats win tight one with Aggies

It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done The Arizona Wildcats (11-4) struggled to put New Mexico State (1-11) away on Tuesday, but still came away with a 6-2 win. The Wildcats were just 1-7 with runners in scoring position, and 4-15 with runners on base at all heading into the bottom of the eighth. UA ended up leaving ten runners on base, but NMSU left nine. "We've been scoring a lot of runs lately," head coach Andy Lopez said after the game. "And you just can't do that every night. Nobody does it every night. You're not going to put up ten or twelve every night, that's unrealistic. So we...

Kentucky Wildcats 72, Georgia Bulldogs 64: 30-0 Celebration!

Kentucky refuses to lose even after playing poorly and continues their dream run. Well, we suspected this would be a tough game, and it absolutely was. The Georgia Bulldogs brought their A game today, and it was almost enough to end the undefeated run of the Kentucky Wildcats. Almost, but this isn’t horseshoes or global thermonuclear war. More: Dawg Sports I knew Georgia was a good team, and I knew this would be a game where they came at us with everything they had. They did that, and more. Mark Fox had an outstanding game plan, Nemanja Djurisic played the game of his life on...

Villanova vs. Creighton recap: Wildcats survive road test 76-72

Despite one of their worst performances of the season, 'Nova gutted it out on the road. It wasn't pretty, but Villanova Wildcats survived a Creighton Bluejays team that was more than up for the challenge on Tuesday night. A sloppy affair finally ended with the Wildcats on top 76-72. Ryan Arcidiacono led all scorers with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists while Dylan Ennis chipped in with 19 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. The first half was one to forget for the Wildcats. At the half they trailed 30-29 and it could have been worse. Villanova shot just 29% from the floor (21% 3FG) and for...

Bulldogs put up good fight but fall to Wildcats 72-64

Georgia hung around for three quarters of Tuesday's game but fell just short of handing Kentucky its first loss of the season. There is no such thing as a moral victory but if there were, then Georgia's loss on Tuesday to undefeated Kentucky might qualify. The Bulldogs hung around for three quarters but were just unable to make enough plays down the stretch to pull out a victory. Two free throws from Marcus Thornton put the Bulldogs up 62-56 with 5:35 remaining in the game. Georgia wouldn't score again until the game's final moments as the Wildcats embarked on a 16-2 run to finish things...

Oregon St. Starts Spring Ball Up Tempo

Oregon St. started spring preparations under new head coach Gary Andersen and except for WR coach Bret Brennan and some of the graduate assistants and student staffers, a whole new coaching staff this morning. Bright and early this morning, at 7 AM, earlier than any Oregon St. practice has ever been held. "They kind of woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed at 5:30 or whenever they got up, and they came out here and did a nice job," Andersen said. With practices being "restricted access" (more on that below), the first things we learned for fact were the look of the fairly sharp practice...

Instant Reaction: Aggies fall to Gators 66-62

That was not a good game. Definitely not a good game. The Aggies went on the road to Gainesville and had one of the more frustrating games of the season to watch for Aggie Basketball fans. This wasn't a must-win for the Aggies and the NCAA Tournament hopes, but it definitely would have made things easier. 1. That was an impressive start The Aggies got out to a 10-0 start very early in this game, and it looked like they were going to cruise to a nice road victory on their way to the SEC Tournament. Both Caruso and Green hit early three pointers, and you really couldn't ask for much more at...

Final: Georges-Hunt Injured, Yellow Jackets Crushed by UNC, 81-49

Ouch. It doesn't get much worse than that. Early on in the first half, Marcus Georges-Hunt went down with what looked like a pretty serious foot injury and didn't return. Early reports fear that it's a broken foot for MGH, which would certainly end his season. After that, there was very little to talk about from the Georgia Tech side of things. North Carolina dominated the Yellow Jackets in every way possible on the way to an 81-49 blowout in the regular season finale. It was an absolute disaster for Tech. Charles Mitchell and Demarco Cox once again led the way down low as they did...

In-State QB Invited to Junior Day this Weekend

2016 QB and Mustang High School product Chandler Garrett was invited to this weekend's Junior Day. Bob Pryzbolo of Scout.com confirmed it via twitter. #OKPreps (Mustang) QB Chandler Garrett (@CSG_11) says he has been invited to #Sooners Jr day tonight by Lincoln Riley — Bob Przybylo (@BPrzybylo) March 4, 2015 I don't believe that Garrett's invite is necessarily a signal that the Sooners are out for their number 1 target at the position in Dwayne Haskins, but rather is a backup plan should Haskins decide elsewhere. For those of you wondering what type of player Garrett is, check...

Hamblin Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year; Rueck Coach of Year

The Pac-12 women's basketball coaches have made their end of year All-Conference selections, and Ruth Hamblin is this year's Defensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Scott Rueck was also honored as the Coach of the Year, the second time he has been selected. Hamblin, a junior, finished the regular season averaging 3.83 blocked shots per game, 11th in the nation, and anchored a Beaver defense that finished 4th in the nation in field goal shooting percentage allowed, holding opponents to 34%. Rueck, above, steered Oregon St. to its best season ever, finishing with a 26-3 record, including...

2015 Bubble Watch: Tuesday Night March 3 Results

It has been a good Bubble night overall for Purdue. Hey kids, it is a special Tuesday night wrap-up of the Bubble games from around the country. Things generally went Purdue's way tonight, as we can see from the following games. Purdue RPI: 59 Purdue KenPom: 50 North Florida 81, Stetson 67 - North Florida moves on to the Atlantic Sun quarterfinals and is two wins away from the automatic bid (and likely sacrificial lamb status as a 16 seed). They will host No. 5 seed Lipscomb Thursday night in the semifinals, and they won both regular season meetings by 9 and 15. Yes, the loss sucks still,...

No. 12 South Carolina vs. Charleston Southern, game recap: Destino's grand slam powers Gamecocks to 10-4 win

The Gamecocks offense was slow to get going but exploded in the seventh inning to put South Carolina back in the win column on Tuesday The Gamecocks got behind early against Charleston Southern, as the Buccaneers took the lead in the first inning. After getting two quick outs, South Carolina starter Tyler Haswell gave up a home run to Andrew Widell, and Sam Remick later contributed a double to make it 2-0. The Gamecocks got on the board - and took the lead - in the third inning. After Gene Cone, who has now hit safely in every game this season, and Elliott Caldwell knocked back-to-back...
