NFL Draft 2015 recap: No Cal Bears selected for first time since 1986

Not the greatest draft. Seven rounds passed by this weekend, and for the first time in 30 years, no California Golden Bears were taken in the NFL draft. It's the first time in nearly 30 years that's happened. #Cal goes without an NFL Draft selection for the first time since 1986. — Mike Vernon (@M_Vernon) May 2, 2015 There's a reason we've been pretty mum on our draft coverage. There wasn't much to cover. The only player who had a chance to be picked was Chris Harper, and he was unfortunately caught within a swath of solid wide receivers. Harper did find a spot with the New England...

Technical Tidbits 5/5

Is Georgia Tech actually the best team in the ACC? Just a couple of days after cutting Georgia Tech from his list of finalists, five-star recruit Jaylen Brown made the decision to commit to Cal over offers from Kentucky and just about every other school in the nation. Brown must have thought that The Walking Dead was a documentary rather than a fictional series because he scanned his options and immediately hightailed it to the furthest possible place from Atlanta. In all honesty, however, there is nothing to criticize about Brown's decision. He found a place that he liked for academic and...

Louisville beats Clemson 9-5, wins 8th straight ACC series

For the second straight night, the Louisville baseball team utilized back-to-back home runs to propel itself to a road victory over Clemson. Nick Solak and Corey Ray did the damage on Monday, belting consecutive bombs in the top of the 8th to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead the Cards would not relinquish. Ray's go-ahead home run was his team-best 11th of the season. Louisville has 4 home runs in a game for the first time since 2010. Here's the most recent from @FutureIs_Bright: pic.twitter.com/FCauPidX1E — Mike Rutherford (@CardChronicle) May 5, 2015 Earlier home runs...

The departure of James Michael McAdoo and the arrival of more wings allowed Hicks to play in his natural position at the four as a sophomore. Hicks was expected to be much improved and for the most part...

Texas Tech Lands DeSoto Commit

The Red Raiders get a commit from DeSoto, TX. Defensive back Neiman Armstrong committed to Texas Tech this evening per his twitter account. He makes Tech's fifth verbal commitment as the only defensive commit joining 4 offensive commits. He is a 2-star recruit according to Rivals and unrated by 247 and Scout. He has good size at 6'1 and 180 pounds. The biggest part of his commitment is that he will be playing for DeSoto next season. This school pumps out D1 kids as fast as any school in the state. Since 2010, this team has averaged about 7 D1 athletes per year. That is pretty...

That will be easy for Georgia fans to remember since, like an Athens coed walking around North Avenue, it's just the same sleek number you've grown to love, just now being followed around by a zero. The number won't be that hard for former Vanderbilt and Rams...

Arizona Football Recruiting: A closer look at Devon Modster

The quarterback situation will be fun to watch in 2016 Devon Modster has high expectations to meet at Arizona and he hasn't even started his senior year of high school. This is the quarterback that Rich Rodriguez has been wanting. Not to say that Anu Solomon doesn't fit the mold, but there's certainly a lot more hype swirling around Modster. Rich Rodriguez was close to landing 5-star Torrance Gibson, who ultimately ended up at Ohio State, and had the verbal commitment of Shea Patterson, 2016's No. 1 quarterback, who has since committed to Ole Miss. Modster, 6-2 215lbs, is the No. 10 ranked...

LSU & the NFL Draft: Wrapping it Up

Sorting through the NFL Draft’s aftermath, here are the landing spots for the LSU players that weren't selected in the final rounds. LSU's four selections in the 2015 NFL Draft were the lowest total of the Les Miles Era, which to me, is a testament to just how young the 2014 squad was. Of course, there's a pretty notable reason for one player being left out of the mix. I'm not going to get into that much here; but nonetheless there were certainly some factors in the low total. Still, five other Tigers were able to sign free agent deals over the last two days (La'el Collins likely will...

Sun Devil Stadium holds on to record after 2015 NFL Draft

Jan. 3, 2003 continues to live on as one of the greatest college football games ever played Sun Devil Stadium, where the 2003 BCS National Championship game was played, will remain host to the largest amount of future NFL draft picks ever to play in one game. On that night in 2003 at Sun Devil Stadium, a record 52 future NFL Draft picks played. That mark was somewhat in jeopardy last weekend during the NFL Draft. The talent pool in Tuscaloosa during the 2011 matchup between LSU and Alabama was also large, but not big enough. A total of 45 players from that game were drafted, falling 7...

Pac-12 Baseball Power Rankings: ASU starting to falter

Doesn't get any easier for the struggling Sun Devils Just three weeks remain in the Pac-12 baseball season, and there's still a lot to be decided. The top two teams in the actual Pac-12 standings get together this weekend in UCLA and ASU, but the Devils are definitely on a downward trend, while the Bruins have not lost a true weekend series all year. No change in the top four from last week, because those four teams have clearly separated themselves from the rest of the conference over the course of the year. But all four had their fair share of problems this week, setting up an...
