An all too early look at Florida State baseball

An all too early look at Florida State baseball

FSU's baseball team took another hit during the off-season, losing three of its starting infielders, two members of the weekend rotation, an all too important middle relief guy and likely the closer. Florida State baseball closed out fall ball Monday afternoon inside Dick Howser Stadium, winning an exhibition game against the visiting Ontario Blue Jays, 18-1. As the 'Noles closed the book for fall, they now look ahead to spring where they'll showcase a team full of new faces, and some very talented ones at that. Here's what I expect the Seminoles to look like come February. ON THE...

ACC Football Scheduling: Notre Dame, ACC Announce (Some) Playing Dates, (All) Sites Through 2025

For those concerned about how this Notre Dame scheduling thing actually shakes out, well... this is how it shakes out. Notre Dame is supposed to play five ACC football games per year from now until forever. This you know. But what we didn't know until now was WHEN those games would occur. Now, we do. At least through 2025, anyway. Today, the ACC and Notre Dame went ahead and ended some of the mystery around this sort-of membership scheduling arrangement, and even better: they added dates to some of these games too (the ones through 2019, anyway). So if you want to know what you're doing on...

Forgive us, Old MacDonald, for we have sinned

This Tuesday began like any other, as I scrolled through the news for anything related to NC State that I might have missed recently. The day quickly turned nightmare when I stumbled on this horror of horrors from the News & Observer: N.C. State delivered a dominating performance in winning the two-day Jefferson Cup Trophy regatta, college sailing's newest trophy event, this past weekend. Mother. Of. God. You think about this day, you do your best to plan for it, and yet it still catches you off guard. Uh, quick! Everybody think about irrigation! No! Hang on, that involves water as...

ACC Announces Three Additional Football Games Between Louisville And Notre Dame

The ACC revealed Notre Dame's football schedule against conference opponents through the 2025 season on Tuesday, and the slate includes three additional meetings with Louisville. Two of those games will be played at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. U of L will host Notre Dame on Sept. 2, 2019 in the season-opener for both teams. The Cards will then travel to South Bend to face the Fighting Irish in 2020, and then Notre Dame will come back to Louisville in 2023. The dates for those two games are yet to be determined. Louisville and Notre Dame have never met on the gridiron before, a fact which...

Film Session: How Effective Was The Spread?

UTEP showed way more spread looks than usual in the last game against Old Dominion, I go inside the numbers to see what it really did. Sean Kugler vowed there would be offensive changes after scoring only three points in non-garbage time against Kansas State and Louisiana Tech. So somewhere deep within the Durham Center, Kugler and offensive coordinator Patrick Higgins went into the offensive lab and created one hell of a game plan for Old Dominion. UTEP spread things out, though kept to the running principles, and maybe found out Jameill Showers is a better, more efficient passer out of...

Texas Longhorns first to offer 2016 Gilmer ATH Demarco Boyd

The versatile prospect is the younger brother of star 2015 defensive back recruit Kris Boyd. The Texas Longhorns have had a number of brothers play in the burnt orange and white in recent years and could have another pair in the near future after offering 2016 Gilmer athlete Demarco Boyd, according to multiple reports. There was apparently some confusion in recent weeks about the status of Boyd's offer, but it has finally been confirmed. The 5'11, 215-pouner is the younger brother of star 2015 defensive back recruit Kris Boyd, who is a key target of the Longhorns in that class. Is the offer...

ACC, Notre Dame Finalize Scheduling Agreement For Games Through 2025

Irish, ACC finalize football scheduling agreement through 2025. On Tuesday, the ACC and Notre Dame announced dates through the 2025 season. Previously, Notre Dame and the conference set the dates for the first three years of the agreement. Now dates have been set for the remaining 12-years of the partnership between the conference and Notre Dame. Good news for Boston College is that the Eagles were one of the few ACC schools to get five Irish games out of the deal. The Eagles and Fighting Irish will square off in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2025. Notre Dame will make the trip to Chestnut...

Purdue Football Recruiting: So, how did they do (extended version)?

A look at the next generation of Purdue football stars previous two weeks of high school football. ThelegendofShawnMcCarthy returns from his Mid-Term induced bye week to extoll the virtues of the fine young men slated to return Purdue to football glory. Markus Bailey (LB/RB): 10/10: The multi talented Bailey has been seeing duty as both a running back and a linebacker this season. In Hilliard Davidson's 26-7 victory over Upper Arlington, it appears that Bailey's duties were cut in half, as he was featured solely as a running back. Davidson only threw 3 passes the entire game, so Bailey...

Vegas Not Impressed By Colorado Win; USC & Buck Allen Hold Steady

Despite resounding win, Vegas odds stay the same for USC. Despite USC's 56-28 easy win over Colorado on Saturday, Vegas was not necessarily impressed. The Trojans' odds to win the national championship stayed steady at 75/1. Following the Ducks throttling of rival Washington, Oregon rose from 14/1 to 15/2. UCLA won a tight game with Cal and saw its odds rise from 100/1 to 75/1 -- equal with USC. Despite controlling their own destiny in the Pac-12 South, the Arizona State Sun Devils still sit behind USC and UCLA in the national championship odds. They currently have 100/1 odds, along with...

BC is 123rd in the country in passing, averaging 130 yards a game. Wake is 17th allowing an average of 171 yards through the air. TB 1. Myles Willis (5-9, 203, So.)2. Tyler Rouse (5-8, 194, So.) Pullquotes: Kingsbury, Robertson & Washington

We've got the notes and quotes from Monday's press conference as the team prepares to take on the TCU Horned Frogs. By now, we've heard the updates that Kingsbury was offering up on IR Jakeem Grant. If you haven't, though, Kingsbury said that Grant ha sstitches under his chin, seems to be doing well and is probable for the game this weekend against TCU. Kingsbury also that this situation is an ongoing investigation and as of right now, Grant's status with the team is unchanged. Unless something comes out about Grant's involvement in this incident, I wouldn't expect his status with the team...

Tuesday FEPO: Is it November yet?

For reasons not entirely clear to me, this weekend's slate of games is particularly awful. Jon and I mad some picks anyway. Last week, I was kind enough to leave Jon a perfectly good matchup of two ranked Pac-12 teams (Stanford at Arizona State) and he had the audacity to not only ignore it, but also complain about me taking all the really good games, when I had chosen Kansas-Texas Tech (!). Message received loud and clear, Mr. Morse, and no, I don't care that you had understandably no idea who was going to win that game. Unfortunately for me, and even more unfortunately for Jon, even this...

The weekly accumulation of Big Ten field hockey awards won by one or more Maryland Terrapins athlete continued with Tuesday's announcement that Sarah Sprink had been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. In the six games the Terps have played in October, they have outscored their opponents by a cumulative 34-5. That stretch includes three shutouts. Sprink, and her teammate...

Cal vs. UCLA positives: Golden Bears defense not great, but opportunisitic

What were the positives from the Cal vs. UCLA game? Avinash Kunnath: The Bears probably had no right to be in that game, but when they had the chance they were opportunistic. Cal had seven turnovers all season and came up with three crucial ones that put us back in the game. And they all set up the Bear offense with great field position to put us back in position to win. The defense didn't tackle particularly well and gave up tons of yards in the screen game, but give credit where credit was due--UCLA went 2 for 13 on 3rd down (they're around 45% for the season), which halted most ...
