BN Pac-12 Football Power Poll - Week 5

The Bruins Nation football power poll for the Pac-12 conference after week 5. Early in the season, the Pac-12 conference schedule is already looking more and more like an absolute meat grinder.  There are no cupcakes in this conference, not even a really bad team.  In past years you could always count on some gimmes but that is no longer the case.  Even the "worst" team in this conference (commence debate on which team that is) looks dangerous at this point, though there is much still unknown.   It is not out of the realm of possibility to see every team in the conference be bowl...

Minnesota Golden Gophers Hockey Preseason 2014: Position Preview - Goaltender Adam Wilcox

Minnesota Golden Gophers Hockey Preseason 2014: Position Preview - Goaltender Adam Wilcox

Adam Wilcox was robbed of the Hobey Baker award and the Mike Richter Award last year, and was inexplicably relegated to the second team of All Americans. I bet those mistakes aren't repeated this year. Adam Wilcox is THE MAN.  I really didn't know how else I could start this preview of Gophers goaltending.  There isn't a goalie in college hockey that I would pick for my team before Wilcox.  I thought he was absolutely robbed of the Mike Richter Award for the nation's best goaltender, and I'll make my argument on that subject in a minute.  He was also a finalist for the Hobey Baker...

The Steve Lappas-era player did his first stint with the Wildcats around the turn of the millenium, graduating in 2002 and first appearing as a starter in 1999, when he helped the 'Cats to a late-season turnaround to get them back into the NCAA Tournament field. Sales' was a...

Week 6 College Football TV Schedule

Here's your viewing guide for this weekend's action. The first weekend in October features plenty of outstanding conference matchups, including right here in the SEC West with a trio of ranked games. You can call it "Separation Saturday" or whatever other clever nicknames you can imagine, but we just call it "good football-watchin'." The action gets going Thursday with Kevin Sumlin's former squad in Houston hosting 2013 BCS crashers UCF in the early game. Then at 9:00 we'll get some nice West Coast wide-open football with Arizona taking on Oregon at Autzen. Marcus Mariota is currently the...

K-State Slate: 10.2.14 - Getting ready for Texas Tech

While the football team prepares for this weekend's game, the volleyball team has taken the first round of this year's Sunflower Showdown. Yesterday was a busy day around here. The day's action began with BracketCat's crowdsourced Week 5 Top 25 poll which mostly reflected the lack of any consensus among the staff. Then, Curtis Kitchen cooked up his weekly musings, including his trenchant thoughts on Michigan and Roger Goodell's recent meeting with Charlie Strong to discuss "core values." Finally, Luke Thompson and Jon Morse laughed themselves silly over the Wednesday FEPO...

Miami Hurricane Football Game Preview: Miami at Georgia Tech

Coming off of a much needed win last week against Duke, Miami heads up to Atlanta to try and stay perfect in the ACC Coastal as they take on Georgia Tech. Welcome to Assignment football week. Miami heads up to 4-0 Georgia Tech this week looking to even up the all time series at ten games a piece. They also want to stay perfect in Coastal play, and start earning some tie-breakers for the inevitable four way conference tie at the end of the season. Okay, I'd imagine they care more about the ACC standings than the all time series; whatever, it's a package deal. Miami has won the last five...

Alabama's top-ranked run defense poised for different sort of challenge vs. Ole Miss | AL.com "If you have more guys in the box than they can block, they fake the ball to the back and throw a smokescreen, or bubble screen, or flair the guy out there and throw him the ball and block the perimeter. Those things all count as passes," Saban said after Wednesday's practice. "They run the guy on the rocket sweep and toss him the ball, it counts as a pass but is really a run. Who in the heck is Robert Nkemdiche?

He's big. He's quick. He has a scary last name. ("Nkemdiche" may be the Nigerian word for "terrifying.") Will Bama's offensive line man up and keep the young lion in check? Or will Nkemdiche and Company buoy the Rebels to their first victory over Bama since the Eli Manning Era? Robert Nkemdiche.  Not only is that Verne-inhibiting name scary from the standpoint of spelling and pronunciation, but it also happens to be the name of fear for SEC quarterbacks who must find a way to keep the freakishly athletic Ole Miss defensive tackle in check this season. Who in the heck is Robert Nkemdiche...

Thursday Morning Cardinal News And Notes

We never left, Syracuse. Spread Check: Louisville by 2.5. Syracuse coach Scott Shafer previewed Louisville on Wednesday ... with words. The Syracuse Post-Standard serves up five statistic-based predictions for Friday's game. 1. Louisville will yield a season high in rushing yards. It's strength against strength as the Cardinals' top-ranked rushing defense takes on a Syracuse ground game averaging 232.5 yards per game (No. 22 in the country). Louisville just held Wake Forest to minus-22 yards last week, and only one of the Cardinals' opponents has surpassed the 100-yard plateau...

44 Days To Purdue Basketball: Isaac Haas

Purdue's freshman big man needs to be the top motivator behind A.J. Hammons. It's that time again! Just 44 days from today the first regular season game of the 2014-15 Purdue basketball season takes place in Mackey Arena as the Boilers will face Samford to start the season. In truth, I missed it by a day and this should have gone up yesterday, but that's my fault. It is really 43 days to Purdue basketball, but I can't set up an excel spreadsheet right. The first player on the countdown is No. 44, a freshman from Alabama who was the highest rated recruit in the 2014 class. Isaac Haas - Fr....

Thursday Morning Brews (10/2/14)

Seeing how Clemson looks a month in, plus plenty of links that subtly point to what good coaching looks like. Tiger's Claws For Clemson, losing 58% of its receiving yards, 90% of its passing yards, and 77% of its rushing yards meant a lot of unknowns going into 2014. On top of the offensive overhaul, the Tigers were facing life without three of their four most experienced linemen and top defensive linebacker Spencer Shuey. There were a lot of new faces on a team that had grown used to winning. Growth has been fast. A painful season-opener - where they watched a 21-21 tie at halftime fall...

Mike Leach talks Connor Halliday, California and more

The Washington State head coach hopped on the radio for a 20-minute interview that covered the current state of Cougar football. The ESPN Pac-12 blog ran a story recently giving an insight into Mike Leach's walks to and from work. The story talked about the places he goes and his whole process of wondering through Pullman. Well on Wednesday, Leach added a little variety to his walk as he apparently hopped on for a radio appearance during his walk. Leach joined Travis Demers of ESPN 1080 the Fan and it's obvious Leach is in the midst of one of his walks. Not only can you tell by how he takes...

Utah Opponent Preview: UCLA Offense

Utah's defense will be keyed in on Heisman Trophy candidate Brett Hundley this Saturday, as the junior signal caller leads the Bruins in the Rose Bowl. The UCLA offense goes as junior quarterback Brett Hundley goes. The Heisman Trophy hopeful is considered the most valuable player on the UCLA offense and one of the best in the country. Bruins nation saw first hand versus Texas that the Noel Mazzone's high-paced spread offense doesn't run quite as well with their number one signal caller on the sidelines. Back on the field again, and looking to continue their season undefeated, Hundley will...
