Better Know a Coach: D.J. Durkin

We'll be examining the list of candidates for our head coaching vacancy** in the coming days, and I'll start by introducing one of the targets who has been mentioned quite a bit. D.J. Durkin has been a hot commodity in the coaching circles of late, probably due to his early season defensive turnaround at Michigan. The 37 year old defensive coordinator for the Michigan Wolverines, he hails from some pretty tradition-rich stomping grounds. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, he played LB and DB at Bowling Green until his graduation in 2000, immediately becoming a grad assistant coach for the Falcons...

Report: Mike Leach visits five-star quarterback Jacob Eason

The top quarterback in the country received a visit from Mike Leach today. Mike Leach wasted no time hitting the recruiting trail today, visiting Lake Stevens quarterback Jacob Eason, a five-star prospect currently committed to Georgia, according to a report from the Seattle Times. Eason, widely regarded as the top quarterback prospect in the 2016 recruiting class, committed to the Bulldogs last summer, but with Georgia parting ways with Mark Richt today, his commitment is reportedly in a "holding pattern," Lake Stevens head coach Tom Tri tells the Seattle Times. The Cougars were the...

Recapping the Maryland football season and discussing Terps' coaching search

We recap the football season and look ahead to who might be leading the Terrapins next season. Pete Volk joins me to recap the 2015 Maryland football season (unfortunately), talk about the comings and goings for next season, and most importantly take a deep dive into the coaching search. Make sure to rate and subscribe (and review) on iTunes!

UGA quick hitters: details on Mark Richt's buyout & more

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity confirmed the school will honor a verbal agreement to pay Mark Richt $4.1 million as a buyout even though he never signed his contract extension. “The contract that our board approved at the previous board meeting is in full effect and will certainly be honored,” McGarity said. “There are no issues there even though it’s not executed, and that’s the way it’s always been. A handshake means something here.” … Richt spoke after the Georgia Tech win that he was focused on recruiting and didn’t have an indication he was about to be out of...

Ducks win battle of unbeatens

Oregon improved their record to 6-0 after a 78-73 win over Fresno State. Dillon Brooks had a game high 21 points and ten rebounds. The Ducks zone was difficult for the Bulldogs. Fresno State didn't get many open shots because of Oregon's rotation on defense. Elgin Cook pushed the pace for the Ducks and had seven early points that ignited an 11-0 run to start the game. Oregon's ability to rebound allowed Cook to run the floor and get a lot of shots at the rim. Cook finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Chris Boucher continued to anchor the defense. The senior had five blocks, including...

Wisconsin football: Joe Schobert, Michael Caputo, Vince Biegel earn All-Big Ten honors

The Badgers' defensive players were honored with all-conference selections on Monday. Senior outside linebacker Joe Schobert wasn't the only Wisconsin defensive player honored by Big Ten Conference coaches and media on Monday. Along with the former walk-on, who received the 2016 Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year and first team All-Big Ten honors, teammates Michael Caputo and Vince Biegel were selected to consensus second and third-team all-conference honors. Caputo, a redshirt senior safety and team captain who's started the past three seasons, ranks fourth on the team in tackles...

POLL: Who should be Maryland's next head football coach?

Help athletic director Kevin Anderson make his decision. The Maryland football program's head coaching search certainly appears to be barreling toward a conclusion. Sometime soon - though we don't know exactly when - Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson will announce a new hire as the team's 36th head coach. Some fans will like it, and some fans won't. We've done this before, but only at the outset of the search, shortly after Maryland fired Randy Edsall. It's time for an update. Based on some actual reporting and some general sense of things, we think Maryland's next coach is going...

Mark Richt left Monday's press conference and calmly walked toward the next chapter in life

Mark Richt handled his press conference more like an introduction than a farewell. He beamed with confidence. He pleasantly answered every question. He spoke of some regrets and shortcomings with ease.  “I think that 15 years is a long time,” Richt said. “I think that the expectations have been built to the point where if you don’t win a championship it’s kind of miserable around here. When we don’t make it to Atlanta I’m miserable too.” He didn’t burst out a cheek-to-cheek grin that could be seen following an SEC Championship win, but a smile was constantly on his face as...

Jacob Eason To Visit Florida

247Sports recruiting writer Luke Stampini is reporting that Jacob Eason will take an official visit to Gainesville tomorrow. It's not exactly surprising news, as Eason had been pretty vocal in his allegiance to Coaches Richt and Schottenheimer. With both likely leaving Athens it's really only natural that the nation's top pro-style QB would weigh his other options. Florida, Alabama, and Notre Dame (where Eason's father played) are among the schools rumored to have reached out to Eason since the rumors about Coach Richt's job security kicked off. Curiously, Florida already has a commitment...

Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: What We Learned against Illinois State

It's not pretty without Tyler Ulis, that's what. The Kentucky Wildcats struggled at times against the Illinois State Redbirds, but they held on to a double-digit lead to end the game 75-63. Right from the tip, it was obvious that Tyler Ulis was missed more than any would have thought. There wasn't much of a flow offensively and there was a lot more one-on-one play from the guards instead of offensive sets. What we got was an uneven game with plenty of mistakes and a very angry John Calipari. Good Isaiah/Bad Isaiah Isaiah Briscoe started the game as the point guard and immediately...

Here is what John Calipari, Marcus Lee, Isaiah Briscoe, and Jamal Murray had to say about the game: And here are the postgame notes and milestones, courtesy of UK Athletics:  Kentucky started with the lineup of Isaiah Briscoe, Jamal Murray, Charles Matthews, Alex  Poythress and Skal Labissiere for the first time this season.  Illinois State had the strong start, jumping out to a 7-1 advantage.  Kentucky regained the lead, then the teams battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the first...

Gamecocks steady themselves after slow start, beat Western Carolina, 76-53

South Carolina committed eight early turnovers, falling behind Western Carolina for much of the first half, but the Gamecocks battled back to easily handle the Catamounts. Monday started off with a few bright spots, but Monday night's game did not. This afternoon, South Carolina received five votes in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 poll and Mindaugas Kacinas was named SEC Player of the Week. Tonight's game against Western Carolina saw the Gamecocks bury themselves early with costly mistakes. Kacinas scored the first bucket of the game but two Catamount three-pointers put USC down...

Rutgers Loses to Wake Forest 69-68

A lack of execution down the stretch doomed an otherwise solid effort. Rutgers had the ball with 17 seconds left down 69-68. Corey Sanders settled for a 12 foot jumper that missed and was knocked out of bounds by Wake Forest.  Out of a timeout with 4 seconds left, Mike Williams caught the ball at the top of the arc and shot a three-pointer, missing and Wake grabbing the rebound.  There were fouled, missed both and D.J. Foreman was short on the 75 foot hail mary.  Game over and Rutgers lost another heartbreaker.  Both teams were in the double bonus down the stretch. This team must learn,...

Wisconsin football: Outside linebacker Joe Schobert named Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year

The former walk-on also solidified consensus first team All-Big Ten honors. Wisconsin senior outside linebacker Joe Schobert was named the 2016 Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year on Monday, honoring the Big Ten Conference's best linebacker. Schobert, a former walk-on from Waukesha, Wis., emerged in his fourth year to help lead a Wisconsin defense which ranks first in the nation in points per game allowed (13.1), third in total defense (267.1 yards per game), fifth in rush defense (97.9 yards per game allowed), and sixth in pass defense (169.2 yards per game). He ranks tied for seventh...

Is this Muschamp’s final week at Auburn?

The whirling wheel of coaching changes have begun. A somewhat of a shocker came about Sunday when the University of Georgia decided Mark Richt needed to be fired  to step down and resign. He graciously did so at a news conference on Sunday with the Athletic Director at his side, awkwardly, I might add. So what […]The post Is this Muschamp’s final week at Auburn? appeared first on Track Em Tigers, Auburns oldest and most read independent blog.

News of Eason visiting Florida was first broken by Luke Stampini of 247Sports Monday evening ($). Eason, a consensus five-star prospect, is the nation's No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the 2016 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 5 prospect overall in the same ranking system. Eason has been committed to...

Final Box Score and Highlights of Kentucky's win over Illinois State

Here is the latest offering from Kentucky Wildcats TV: And here is the final box score:
