Florida football recruiting: Offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor commits to Gators

Florida just keeps bulking up on the offensive line. After getting a commitment from JUCO wide receiver Dre Massey, Florida wasn't done making waves on the recruiting trail on Sunday — hell, it wasn't even done for the half-hour. Just 22 minutes after Jim McElwain's #ChompChomp tweet alluding to Massey's commitment, he sent another, this one related to the commitment of Cocoa offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor. Taylor beat his future coach to the announcement of his commitment, though. Blessed & honored to say that I am officially Committed to The University of Florida! #Chomp #Chomp...

Florida football recruiting: JUCO WR Dre Massey commits on official visit

A day after an offensive implosion, a fleet wideout commits. Despite Florida's avant-garde interpretation of offense on Saturday night against Florida State, a new player sees himself as part of the Gators' picture on that side of the ball. JUCO wide receiver Dre Massey committed to Florida on Sunday morning, with Jim McElwain's confirming #ChompChomp tweet coming only a minute before Luke Stampini reported Massey's pledge. Massey spent the weekend on his official visit to Florida. We out here GatorNation @MarkT_RB5 @eddypineiro1 pic.twitter.com/3ckSe3whyE— Drè Massey1⃣...

Kony Ealy bringing #MizzouMade to the undefeated Carolina Panthers

Elsewhere, Markus Golden is shining in Arizona, DGB is fighting through a difficult rookie season, Blaine Gabbert may be a different QB than he was in Jacksonville, and as always, plenty of injury news! Week 11 of the NFL season is passed, and now all NFL teams have gone on bye. This week, it was Marcus Murphy's turn for a rest. In addition to his off week, a number of other #MizzouMade players didn't play for a variety of reasons: Chase Coffman was in his usual role as an inactive player. Given the number of TEs on Tennessee's roster, it would take a lot of trouble to get him on the...

UGA coach Mark Richt tells injured Southern WR Devon Gales to 'stay strong and fight through'

Devon Gales missed the football field. On Saturday, he sat in the east endzone, decked head-to-toe in Georgia gear. It’s been nearly two months since the Southern wide receiver was paralyzed in a collision with Bulldogs kicker Marshall Morgan during a kickoff return.  “I feel blessed just to be out here,” Gales said. “I miss the field. I miss being on it.” Georgia recognized Gales during the first quarter of its game against Georgia Southern. The crowd cheered as Gales, in a black sweatshirt with ‘Gales’ and the Georgia G on it, blew a kiss. “(We’re) very appreciative and...

Blaine Gabbert's victorious return highlights a slow week for the #MizzouMade

With byes for six players, and lingering injuries for some others, it was a quiet week for the Mizzou alumni playing on Sundays. So every one of the #MizzouMade was probably interviewed about the Mizzou protests and the Mizzou football team's participation this week. In the interests of sticking to the intent of this column, however, I will not be linking the reports on all of those. If anyone is particularly interested, you are free to throw them into the comments section. Week 9 of NFL play saw six former Tigers on the sidelines due to their teams' byes. So no news this week on Justin...

Gary Andersen Press Conference Brings No Good News

Oregon State Coach Gary Andersen's weekly press conference, 2 days after the Beavers suffered their first home shutout in 18 years, was his shortest of the season. About the only good news was that Dwayne Washington, who left the game early in an ambulance, was back at the Valley Football Center this morning, and smiling. Washington remains highly questionable for this week's trip to California though. There was also no word on progress for Treston Decoud, who left the stadium in the same ambulance 2 weeks earlier. Practice this week will tell more, but Andersen didn't sound like he...

Florida vs. Vanderbilt, Monday Rundown: Gators overcome adversity of their own making

Florida escaped Vanderbilt. And there's plenty of good and bad to say about that. As always, the Sunday Monday Rundown is intentionally written with first-take thoughts on a Florida game, and without a second look at tape. For Florida's 9-7 win over Vanderbilt, I watched the game in the student section, quite high up, next to some seats that were never occupied. How Florida Won The final kick It's crazy that Austin Hardin now has two game-winning field goals on his record. I mean, he's Austin Hardin! He's been shorthand for Florida field goal woes for seemingly forever despite only kicking...

Chomping at Bits: Gators win ugly, despite turnovers, and clinch SEC East

Despite an ugly offensive showing and four turnovers, Florida clinched the SEC East, and a trip to Atlanta, with Saturday's 9-7 victory over Vanderbilt. Chomping at Bits comes stocked with the best Florida Gators links and news we can find. Got a link we should check out? Email us at AlligatorArmy@gmail.com, subject line CAB, or find us on Twitter at @AlligatorArmy or on Facebook at Facebook.com/AlligatorArmy. With an ugly performance, Florida does just enough to win and clinch the SEC East: The Gators had a rough day on offense but managed to win behind their defense and a pressure...

Florida moves up to No. 10 in Week 11 Coaches Poll, stays at No. 11 in AP Poll

The Gators benefited from other teams' first losses. Clinching the SEC East on Saturday with their win over Vanderbilt didn't do all that much for the Florida Gators in the Week 11 USA TODAY Coaches Poll or the Week 11 AP Poll. Florida rose two spots in the coaches poll, from No. 12 to No. 10, after the victory over the Commodores, but that came as a result of other teams' misfortune. No. 12 TCU and No. 14 Michigan State plummeted past the Gators after their first losses of the year, and Florida's no longer the nation's third-best one-loss team per the coaches. That would be No. 9 LSU,...

Poll vaulting: Where should Florida be ranked in the Week 10 college football rankings?

Will the Gators move up after other top-10 teams faltered? It wasn't easy or pretty, but the Florida Gators defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday to push their record to 8-1 and to assure themselves a spot in the SEC Championship Game. It was a struggle throughout, as the Vanderbilt defense proved to be every bit as tough as the numbers suggested they would be, but the Gators were able to get the job done in the end, and that's all that matters. Especially when you consider the rest of the top-10 this weekend. Every top-10 team was in action in week 10, and they did not all escape...

Comebacks for Aldon Smith and Blaine Gabbert lead #MizzouMade in Week 8

Elsewhere, Marcus Murphy's return helps seal a win for New Orleans, Justin Britt and Tim Barnes draw cautious praise, and the Tennessee Tigers face a regime change. In September of 2009, Mizzou took to the road to face the Nevada Wolf Pack. Future first-round pick Blaine Gabbert threw for 414 yards and 3 scores for the Tigers. Future second-round pick Colin Kaepernick threw for 156 yards (or 14 fewer than Danario Alexander had by himself) and 1 TD, and rushed for 59 and another TD. Of course, their respective fortunes were flipped a bit once reaching the NFL, with Kaepernick supplanting...
