‘Help the team in whatever way possible’: Kramer reflects on isolation, returning to play

Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports “It was awesome to be back out there.” CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Doug Kramer didn’t expect his senior season to start this way. The Illinois center missed the games against Purdue and Minnesota due to COVID-19 contact tracing protocol. After his roommate, quarterback Brandon Peters, tested positive, Kramer stayed in a hotel to isolate. With a lot of time on his hands, he played Xbox, rewatched The Office and slept. Kramer stayed engaged by having Zoom meetings and watching film. He also used the time to prepare to face Rutgers. Kramer...

Illinois Football: It is simple, Isaiah Williams should start for the Illini

Lovie Smith and the Illinois football program will make a decision this weekend on who the starting quarterback will be against Nebraska. This is a decision that some people are calling an easy one. Illinois Football: Still no starting quarterback named for the Illini

When asked by reporters at his weekly news conference, Illinois football head coach Lovie Smith could not give an answer about who would start Week 3 against Minnesota. Illinois Football: Illini MVP against the Purdue Boilermakers

The Illinois football team is 0-2 after losing to the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday, but there was one player who stood out to me. Going into the game, Illinois was without key pieces such as Brandon Peters, Doug Kramer, and James Mccourt. That led to Illinois having to plug in some inexperienced backups into starting […] Illinois Football: Illini MVP against the Purdue Boilermakers - Writing Illini - Writing Illini - An Illinois Fighting Illini Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

Illinois falls short in comeback to Purdue, 31-24

Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports It’s the first time since 1997 the Illini have dropped a home opener. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Illini came home to host Purdue at Memorial Stadium, but were without some of their key players. Prior to the game, the team announced that Brandon Peters and Griffin Moore tested positive for COVID-19. Due to contact tracing, the roommates of Peters and Moore also have to quarantine, so key pieces Isaiah Williams, Doug Kramer and James McCourt were out as well. Matt Robinson recorded his third start at QB, but his day didn’t last long. Coran Taylor took over...

Brandon Peters out for 21 days after positive COVID test

Brandon Peters out for 21 days after positive COVID test

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports Bring in the backups. Illinois starting QB Brandon Peters is out for 21 days after a positive coronavirus test. According to DIA, Peters and redshirt-freshman tight end Griffin Moore will be out until at least Nov. 21 against Nebraska. A news release said contact tracing also sidelined several other players for Saturday’s game and next week’s game against Minnesota. A handful of other players are out for Saturday’s game, including backup QB Isaiah Williams. That means Purdue will likely see a heavy dose of Matt Robinson and Coran Taylor. Out vs....

‘Brandon is our QB’: Even after Wisconsin debacle, Lovie has faith in his senior

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports All the biggest headlines as Illinois takes on Purdue on Halloween. ‘Brandon is our quarterback’ Brandon Peters finished the season opener with just 12 more passing yards than rushing yards. Despite offensive coordinator Rod Smith saying he needs to “take the lid off” his quarterback and let him use his legs, Peters’ performance on Friday against Wisconsin was not good. Peters entered year two of his Illini career with goals of keeping the chains moving and improving his 55.3% completion rate from a year ago. In the season opener, the...
