David Thompson returned to the Canes lineup on Wednesday night but struggled going 0-4. The offense was hitting the ball hard which they have not as of late. However, 3 errors from the defense made it difficult for starting pitcher Javi Salas and the Canes. On Friday, the Canes welcomed the Hokies to The Light and took game 1 11-9. Starting pitcher Chris Diaz picked up the win going 8 innings while giving up just 2 earned runs and striking out six. The Canes were lead offensively by freshmen David Thompson and Ricky Eusebio. Thompson was 2-4 with 3 RBIs and Eusebio was 1-2 with 3 RBIs as well as 2 walks. Diaz improved his record to 3-1 and Eric Nedeljkovic earned his 5th save while recording the last out of the game with a strikeout.
