Arizona basketball: Kaleb Tarczewski turning it up at the right time

Who is wearing 35 and what did he do with the old Kaleb Tarczewski? At seven feet tall, it's hard not to notice Kaleb Tarczewski. It's even harder not to notice his struggles with consistency throughout the season. Everyone once in a while he'll show you his true potential. But over the last five games, Tarczewski has shown us more than flashes of greatness. Let's throw it back to Washington State on February 15th, the tail end of the great northwest road trip.  Not only was that a near perfect offensive performance for Arizona, but that was the beginning of Kaleb's rampage....

Arizona Wildcats in the NBA Weekend Edition: 2/28 & 3/1

A look at how former Wildcats performed in the NBA this weekend The current Wildcats clinched at least a share of the Pac-12 title this weekend, and the former Wildcats had some great performances of their own. Here's how they did: Andre Iguodala: The Warriors were down by as many as 26 points on Sunday against to Celtics, but ended up coming all the way back to win 106-101. Iggy helped lead the comeback with 4 fourth quarter points including a dunk to tie the game at 94, and a layup on a broken play to extend Golden State's lead to 102-99 with 26 seconds left. Iggy finished with 6 points,...

Gabe York has become pivotal to Arizona's success

Gabe York's production of the bench is what Arizona has needed Arizona's offense is frustrating to watch at times. It consists of dribbling around the arc, handing it off to another guard, and then back to the top of the arc. Then a big will set a screen for the ball handler to roll or dump it off for the score. But lately, Gabe York's work off the bench has made him extremely valuable throughout conference play. Since the win over Utah at home, Gabe York has become the fearless, volume shooter Arizona has needed. Of course, there's Stanley Johnson, who is relentless when attacking the rim,...

Arizona baseball: Three Up, Three Down: Weekend in Starkville

The Wildcats come away with two wins. The Arizona Wildcats essentially played two two-game series this weekend. They swept one, and were swept in the other. The Wildcats had their chances against highly-ranked Mississippi State in those two games, but MSU's tremendous pitching staff held off UA in 4-2 and 6-2 contests. The encouraging thing is that Arizona still hasn't lost to an opponent not ranked in the top 15 nationally. The Wildcats took down Samford 7-1 on Friday, and then took the weekend finale 12-5. Here's a look at some of the best and worst performers from the entire...

Arizona baseball: Justin Behnke makes amazing catch

This is nuts The Arizona Wildcats may have been swept by Mississippi State over the weekend, but Justin Behnke made this ridiculous catch and was the top play on SportsCenter. Arizona vs. Utah final score: Wildcats clinch a share of the Pac-12 championship

A whistle, defense and timely free throw shooting helps Arizona survive and win a share of the Pac-12 championship A top 15 matchup. The top two teams in the Pac-12. Two of the best defenses in the nation. A national tv broadcast on ESPN. And what did we get? Lots of whistles. Just another hurdle that the No. 7 Arizona Wildcats have had to overcome as they went into the Jon M. Huntsman Center to not only defeat the No. 13 Utah Utes 63-57, but also win a share of the Pac-12 regular season championship. The first half between the two elite teams in the Pac-12 resulted in two things;...

Arizona Wildcats in the NBA: 2/27

A daily glimpse of Arizona Wildcat performances in the NBA As we ready ourselves for the current Cats to take on Utah in Salt Lake, here's a look at how the former Wildcats did in the NBA on Friday night: Solomon Hill: Hill got the start for Indiana on Friday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was supposed to be responsible for guarding LeBron James, but LeBron was a late scratch in this one. Nonetheless, Solo scored 8 points, had 2 rebounds, an assist, and a block in 18 minutes. Channing Frye: In 24 minutes, Channing scored 10 points while hitting 3 three pointers, had 3 rebounds, 3...

Arizona vs. Utah time, TV, and preview: Wildcats look to build lead atop Pac-12 in Salt Lake City

A win for the Wildcats in Salt Lake would nearly make them a lock for a second straight Pac-12 title After a 82-54 rout over Colorado on Thursday, the Wildcats can expect a much more difficult task on Saturday against #13 Utah in Salt Lake. Currently Arizona is one game ahead of Utah atop the Pac-12 standings, and because there are only two games to play after Saturday's game, a win for the Wildcats would almost certainly lock up their second Pac-12 title in a row. Even though Arizona handled Utah in the first meeting between these two teams, you can expect this weekend's matchup to be a...

Samford vs. Arizona baseball final score: Wildcats open weekend with win over Bulldogs

A good start to the extended weekend for the Wildcats The Arizona Wildcats opened up Friday's doubleheader with a dominant 7-1 win over the Samford Bulldogs. Tyger Talley did particularly well, given that he was working on just four days' rest after starting Sunday's game against Rice. The junior righty went 6+ innings Friday afternoon, surrendering just two hits and walking two Bulldogs. The lone run he was charged with came after giving up an infield single and committing a throwing error. Talley was then replaced by Cody Hamlin, who let Austin Edens score two groundouts later. Hamlin...

Arizona Wildcats in the NBA: 2/26

A daily glimpse of Arizona Wildcat performances in the NBA It was a one-man show for the NBA Cats tonight, as Andre Iguodala was the only Wildcat in action. Iggy came off the bench for the Warriors and in 30 minutes of play, he scored 9 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists. One of his assists came on this behind the back pass to David Lee after a sick crossover.  This play was good enough for a spot on SportsCenter's Top 10. Later in the game, Iguodala had this reverse slam after driving baseline. Also in this game was an extremely rare occurrence of Steve Kerr losing his...

Breaking down Arizona's projected bracket 2/27

Joe Lunardi is updating his bracket daily and it's awesome Another day, another bracket out by Joe Lunardi. At this point, the No. 2 seed in the West is Arizona's to lose and the No. 1 seed is still in reach. In all honesty, this team might be better as the No. 2 seed regardless of which region they are in. The No. 1 seed carries a lot of pressure that this team hasn't really felt lately because of the three "early losses". For now, there's absolutely no shame in the No. 2 seed. Arizona is matched up against New Mexico State once again and as always, barring any catastrophe, we're...

Arizona football recruiting: Wildcats offer two top 50 Louisiana recruits

Rich Rod is starting to invade SEC territory.. Louisiana has been a hot recruiting spot for Arizona lately, with five bayou products in Rich Rod's latest recruiting class. This week, Rich Rod has extended a couple more offers to two of Louisiana's top 50 recruits. The first offer went to Chanse Sylvie of state champion Cavalry Baptist High School (Shreveport, LA), the same high school as 2015 commits Orlando Bradford and Shun Brown. Sylvie is rated as the No. 60 safety in the nation and No. 50 prospect out of Louisiana. He holds offers to Oklahoma, TCU, Baylor and Nebraska, among...

Here's a look at the game times (MST), probable pitchers, and TV(!) for the various games against both Mississippi State and Samford. Arizona vs Colorado Recap: Wildcats dominate Buffaloes

Arizona defeats Colorado 82-54 In their last nationally televised game on Saturday, Arizona won in an ugly fashion against UCLA. Tonight's game, however, was a different story. The Wildcats were determined to change the perception, coming out with more effort and physicality. Both teams began the game with a slow start. After answering the Wildcats first few buckets, Colorado couldn't match up with the daunting talent and size of Arizona, eventually succumbing to a double digit deficit and ultimately losing 82-54. With a roster full of NBA talent, two surprising players made the biggest...

Arizona football goes swimming

Watch giant men swim It's the week before Spring Practice starts for the Arizona Wildcats, so it's time for them to do weird things. And by weird things, I mean sharing videos of giant men swimming. This is like Caddyshack and it's Caddy Day at the club. Another day of #WildcatOlympics. Arizona baseball: Three Up, Three Down: Oakland Series

A nice little two-game sweep before a big weekend trip to Mississippi The Oakland Golden Grizzlies were exactly what the doctor ordered for the Arizona Wildcats this weekend after faltering a bit against Rice. Oakland made the first game interesting, clawing back to lose just 10-7. But then Arizona turned it up a notch on Wednesday to sweep the series with a 13-0 win. Here's a look at some of the best and worst from the Wildcats on the diamond this week: Three Up: 1. Jared Oliva It looks like Andy Lopez has found his left fielder in redshirt freshman Jared Oliva. Oliva went 6-for-9 in the...

Arizona basketball: The true value of a loss

UA's basketball program is historically known as a winner. Losing a game is often the least desired result for players and coaches in college basketball.  However, some losses are not all that bad as they serve as an omen for more good to come in the future.  Just as you can take away negative points from a close win, you can also take away positives from a competitive loss. There are always those teams with very few losses – Kentucky, Duke, Arizona, etc. – and those losses can be singled out so players and coaches can emotionally prepare for future challenges.  We'll look at...

Arizona Wildcats in the NBA: 2/25

A daily glimpse of Arizona Wildcat performances in the NBA Seven former Wildcats were in action in the NBA on Wednesday night, here's how they did: Aaron Gordon: Gordon played just 9 minutes as he was forced to leave the game with an ankle injury. It is not known yet how long he will be out. He played well in the minutes he played though as he scored 6 points while making all 3 of his shot attempts. However, Gordon was on the wrong end of a SportsCenter Not Top 10 play when he had his shoe inexplicably fly off his foot which that led him being called for an offensive foul. Tie your shoes...

Arizona basketball roundtable: Predictions for the Wildcats against Colorado and Utah

We give our thoughts on how Arizona will do in the Rocky Mountains this week The Arizona Wildcats make that tough Rocky Mountain trip this week as they visit the Colorado Buffaloes on Thursday and the top-15 Utah Utes on Saturday. Here's how some of our writers think the games will play out: Gabe Encinas: As much as it hurts to say it, I think we split the rocky mountain road trip. Arizona basketball logic tells me that we lose against Colorado and make a statement at Utah. Arizona struggled against Colorado when they came to Tucson and that was without Xavier Johnson and Josh Scott....
