Wildcats hope to parlay big opening-week victory into a big season

Kansas City Star — MANHATTAN, Kan. | During his time at Kansas State, Shad Meier played in two Big 12 championship games and went to four bowl games. The Wildcats won 44 times with him on the roster, and he can tell you a story about every victory. One of his favorites came in 2000 at Arrowhead Stadium. K-State was set to play Iowa in the season-opening Eddie Robinson Classic, and he was nervous. Victory was anything but assured.

K-State receiver Thompson works way into starter's role

Kansas City Star — MANHATTAN, Kan. | When Tramaine Thompson puts on a helmet, it’s hard to tell him apart from Brandon Banks. At 5 feet 7, they are the same height. At 164 pounds, they are similar in weight. They even run routes the same way. Like Banks, a former wide receiver who led Kansas State in catches the last two seasons, Thompson relies on his quick feet and reliable hands to make up for limited size.

Ray-Pec alum Coffman is K-State's starting quarterback

Kansas City Star — MANHATTAN, Kan. | Carson Coffman is once again Kansas State’s starting quarterback, coach Bill Snyder announced Monday. Coffman, a senior from Raymore-Peculiar, held the job for four games last season but surrendered his playing time to Grant Gregory at the start of Big 12 play. Since the end of last season, Coffman has been in a competition with sophomore Collin Klein and junior Sammuel Lamur.

Coffman will be K-State's starting QB
