Film study: What makes new LSU quarterback Joe Burrow so special

BATON ROUGE, La. — It’s nearly impossible to evaluate the tape of a college quarterback with 39 career pass attempts. But you don’t need that many throws to see why LSU’s coaches fell in love with graduate transfer quarterback Joe Burrow. A new acquisition from Ohio State, Burrow transfers to LSU with two years of […] The post Film study: What makes new LSU quarterback Joe Burrow so special appeared first on SEC Country.

The weekend in Auburn wasn’t what LSU (33-23, 15-15 in SEC) wanted, but it was probably about as best as could be expected. Dropping two of three in blowout fashion, but stealing a win with a glimpse at the bright future as Hilliard outshone the presumptive #1 pick for the 2018 MLB draft. Watching the games in person (Plainsman Park is an excellent little stadium btw), I never saw that LSU was unmotivated or didn’t have the will to try to pull that upset off, but too many little mistakes and too little pitching depth killed any chance of making it a reality. LSU’s walking IC ward on...

Can Joe Burrow Save LSU Football?

Can Joe Burrow Save LSU Football?

Talented QB is just what LSU needed. In a word, no. Because LSU football doesn’t need saving. There’s a peculiar malaise that’s overtaken the majority of the LSU fanbase in 2018. It’s an attitude previously persisted by a certain subset of fans during the Miles era and is now seemed to taken ahold of the general consciousness of the masses. Discussions of LSU not making a bowl are now the topic du jour, which seem utterly asinine in light of narrowly winning 10 games last season. 2018 will be a bit of a rebuild for the LSU program in some aspects, but a major piece of that rebuild...

Tigers Advance To Super Regional

Tigers Advance To Super Regional

LSU heads to Tallahassee after beating ULL 3-1 The late inning magic that worked for Louisiana Lafayette in Game 1 on Sunday took a turn in favor of the Tigers in Game 2, as LSU used some late offense to top the Cajuns 3-1 and advance to the Super Regional. LSU’s scoring began in the bottom of the fifth when Amber Serrett, one of the hottest hitters in the Baton Rouge Regional, laced a triple to left. Beth Torina opted to pinch hit Sydney Springfield for Becca Schulte. Springfield would deliver a single up the middle putting the Tigers ahead 1-0. In the sixth, after ULL had tied the game,...

Billy Cannon Passes Away

Billy Cannon Passes Away

LSU’s Heisman winner dies at 80 years old. Former LSU running back, Heisman Trophy winner, and National Champion Billy Cannon passed away in his home early Sunday morning. He was 80 years old. His most iconic moment with the Tigers came in the 1959 season, the year in which he won the Heisman, against Ole Miss on Halloween, where he returned a punt 89 yards for the only and go-ahead score in the 7-3 victory. Cannon’s No.20 jersey was retired by LSU and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Walljasper pitches Tigers past Houston

Walljasper pitches Tigers past Houston

LSU one win away from Super Regional appearance. The Tigers secured their appearance in the Baton Rouge regional championship with a 1-0 win over Houston, backed by an outstanding performance by Allie Walljasper. Walljasper would pitch a complete game scattering five hits while striking out seven, keeping the Cougars off the board. She did run into some tough spots. Starting in the second Walljasper worked out of first and second with no outs, securing two foul outs and a ground out to end the inning. In the third, with runners on first and third and one out, got a pair of ground outs,...

Tigers take opening game of BR Regional

LSU crushes Fordham 9-0. The Tigers took care of business in their opening round game of the Baton Rouge regional, trouncing Fordham 9-0 in a five inning, run-rule win. LSU’s big inning was in the second. After back-to-back singles by Shelbi Sunseri and Amber Serrett, Becca Schulte would bounce back to the pitcher, who would commit a throwing error allowing Sunseri to score and Serrett to advance to third. The next batter Aliyah Andrews would fly out, scoring Serrett. Following a Taryn Antoine walk, Emily Griggs would double in Antoine and Schulte. Amanda Doyle would single to score...

Tigers will add graduate transfer from Ohio State to its quarterback mix. Per the Cincinnati Inquirer’s Joe Groeschen, LSU has landed, perhaps, its biggest recruit of 2018 with the news of quarterback Joe Burrow’s decision to join the team as a graduate transfer this summer. Although there has been no official word from LSU as of yet. Burrow, the No. 2 quarterback for Ohio State, elected to transfer as a graduate with two seasons of eligibility remaining. He’ll join the team this summer for workouts and immediately join in the Tigers’ quarterback competition along with junior Justin...

The Joe Bureau: Latest on Transfer QB Target

The Joe Bureau: Latest on Transfer QB Target

Where things stand with LSU’s transfer quarterback target. As you certainly know by now, four days ago LSU received a visit from Ohio State junior quarterback Joe Burrow, who is looking to transfer as an eligible graduate, where he will immediately be eligible for two seasons. Burrow visited Cincinnati last Thursday, and then came in to Baton Rouge with his family, including father Jim Burrow, who is the defensive coordinator for the University of Ohio Bobcats, and old friends/colleagues with LSU safeties coach Bill Busch. Personally, I kind of thought this visit would be something of a...

Tigers Hold Off Demons For 9-5 Win

The Tigers scrapped the bottom of the bullpen barrel to get through their last midweek game of the regular season, but another great performance from LSU’s Senior Utility MVP helped seal a 9-5 win and start the final week off on the right foot. LSU started the scoring in the 1st with RBI singles from Zach Watson and Nick Coomes. The Tigers kept pounding early, adding an RBI single from Austin Bain and a 2 run homer from the hot-hitting Daniel Cabrera in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd with another Austin Bain RBI single and 2 runs on an Antoine Duplantis RBI single that the Demons threw...

GAMETHREAD: Baseball vs Northwestern St., 6:30pm, SECN+

And so we’ve come to the end, the last (barring a miracle) home game for the LSU Tigers in 2018. While the 2-1 win over Bama this weekend wasn’t a total disaster, LSU’s RPI still fell to 50 and they’ve almost guaranteed they’ll be starting the SEC tournament early in one of the Tuesday opening round games. It was nice to see a few bats wake up this weekend, with Daniel Cabrera’s stellar performance earning him SEC Freshman of the week honors, but injuries continue to decimate the pitching staff. AJ Labas was supposed to start Sunday, but shoulder soreness pulled him from the...

POSTGAME: Tigers defeat Alabama to take series, 7-2

POSTGAME: Tigers defeat Alabama to take series, 7-2

Tigers pull off a must-win with ease. In Sunday’s rubber match, the LSU Tigers found themselves trailing in the beginning, but definitely did more than just pick it up to ultimately bring down the Alabama Crimson Tide, 7-2. Head coach Paul Mainieri had termed the game a “must-win” in order to keep the team’s postseason hopes alive. Alabama put up the first run of the game in the second inning, after a double by Trousdale sent Praytor to home base. But it didn’t take long for first baseman Austin Bain to respond for LSU, with a solo to left field that tied the game at 1-1. The...
