In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Player/Freshman/Newcomer Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile UM's players/newcomers for 2014. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the field. Michael Wyche DT 6'4 335 Monterey Park, Ca (East LA College) Is it possible that the most important player on the entire roster outside of QB, is a JUCO transfer who has yet to play a snap at this level? UM's Johnson, Perryman ready for even bigger roles

An injury to Miami's projected starting quarterback and the loss of two linebackers means Duke Johnson and Denzel Perryman could have more weight on their shoulders this yearDuke Johnson and Denzel Perryman already knew the expectations on them.

Denzel Perryman: Hurricanes can have a top-10 defense in 2014

Denzel Perryman thinks the Hurricanes can have a top-10 defense this season. Not in the ACC – in the nation. Perryman, who skipped the NFL draft and returned for his senior season, will be the rock of a beleaguered unit that finished 90th in yards allowed, 92nd in passing yards allowed, 78th in rushing yards allowed and 66th in points allowed. “I don’t think talent is the issue,” he said. “Guys need to be where they need to be. That one guy out of his gap could be a big difference in the game or a play.” In any statistical category, a top-10 finish [More]

ACC Kickoff Preview: 2014 predictions, division winners, preseason All-ACC teams

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Last year, the majority of ACC media picked Clemson and Miami to cruise to the championship game. For the record, I wasn’t there and didn’t cast a ballot, but had I been I might have followed suit. Also, 15 of 120 voters had Florida State to win the league and the Coastal champ, Duke, was a resounding pick to finish last in the league. Sportswriters: we’re not geniuses. Most everyone who picks the defending national champion Seminoles will feel good about it today. FSU should be a near-unanimous call to win the league when 2014 ballots are submitted today as the...
