Thursday night links

Husky Football Blog | Seattle Times — A few more to pass along (sorry, my creativitiy has been blunted by the rare appearance of the Arizona sun). --- NFL Draft expert Rob Rang has a nice breakdown of UW's Pro Day and notes how much Daniel Te'o-Nesheim may have helped himself. --- ESPN's Ted Miller looks at the strengths and weaknesses of the Huskies entering spring practice. The strength? QB. Weakness? Defensive end. --- Former Husky Manse Hopoi is playing for the Kent Predators of the Professional Indoor Football League. The first home game is Friday night against Fairbanks. --- There's way more out there on the Oregon situation...

California-Oregon game thread

Husky Men's Basketball Blog | Seattle Times — Photo credit: Getty Images - Stephen Dunn SCHEDULE REMINDER --- Don't forget, we'll having a Live Chat that will start in a few minutes. POST-GAME ANALYSIS --- Great tournament start for Cal. Four starters scored in double figures, including Randle (22 points), Christopher (21), Boykin (15) and Amoke (12). In his final Oregon game, Porter finished with 26 points on 8-for-22 shooting. I won the bet. Just barely. And if it's the final game for Kent, then he went down fighting until the last second. IT'S OVER --- Cal wins 90-74. OREGON STILL FIGHTING --- The Ducks refuse to believe the game is ...

A couple quick notes --- WSU opens up another bye before Apple Cup

Husky Football Blog | Seattle Times — Spring training duty keeping me busier than normal today, so not much time for this blog. But here are a couple quick links: --- The Cougars moved a home game against Cal from Nov. 20 to Nov. 6. This gives WSU two weeks off before the Apple Cup, one reason for the switch. Another is that students are already out of class on that weekend and there had been a worry it would be low attended, as was a home game on that same weekend this year against Oregon State. Nov. 20 was the original date for the Apple Cup, but both UW and WSU wanted to move the game back two weeks to create some in-season bye...

Lauren Jackson re-signs with Seattle

Seattle Times — Australian star Lauren Jackson (pictured right by Getty Images) re-signed with the Storm on Thursday, preparing to play her 10th -- yes 10th -- season in Seattle. The announcement is actually a formality since Jackson verbally agreed to a two-year deal with the Storm prior to leaving in September.

Pac-10 tournament picks, links

Seattle Times — Is there anyone not picking No. 2 Stanford to win its fourth consecutive tournament title? Of course every team has to "play to win," but even as Cardinal coach Tara VanDerveer speaks of resting players for the NCAA tournament, none have proven to have the depth and talent to get past the powerhouse.

Arizona-UCLA game thread

Husky Men's Basketball Blog | Seattle Times — Photo credit: AP Photo - Mark J. Terrill POST-GAME ANALYSIS -- It seems as if the Bruins live and die with Reeves Nelson (above, center). He missed the previous four games and UCLA went 1-3. He returned today and led the Bruins to a relatively easy six-point victory while outplaying Williams, the Freshman of the Year. Williams needed 15 shots to score 14 points. He also had seven rebounds. Meanwhile Nelson finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs. The Bruins got a big lift from seniors Michael Roll and Nikola Dragovic, who each scored 18 points. Not sure if UCLA can go on a th...

Lots of polls, Pac-10 picks and the UW-OSU winner

Husky Men's Basketball Blog | Seattle Times — We're winding down and much like the Huskies, we're hitting our stride late in the season with the picks. For the second straight outing, we had multiple posters correctly pick all the games Saturday. Here's a list of the winners: uwhoops, dawgpack, ProgressiveDawg, huskyonspeed and ellensburgcoug, who filed a little late, but we'll let it slide. In the Guess the UW Score game, we had another tie. Imagine that. It never happened all season, then it happened twice in the past five days. Strange. Two posters came the closest to predicting UW's 82-70 victory at Oregon State. The big winner sare v...

Oregon goes overtime to start the Pac-10 Tournament

Husky Men's Basketball Blog | Seattle Times — Photo credit: AP Photo - Mark J. Terrill If tonight's 82-80 overtime Oregon win was a sample of what's on tap, then it's going to be one heckuva week down here in Los Angeles. It's a short turnaround for the Ducks, who face top-seed California tomorrow at 2:40 p.m. Not sure how the game looked on FSN, but I watched this one from the Staples Center stands with a few friends and let's just say we had a few rows all to ourselves. There were considerably more Washington State fans in the arena than Duck supporters. Most Cougar fans were questioning coach Ken Bone's moves late in the game. Many Hu...

  • Mariners 6, Giants 2 -- Snell solid, more of Moore and Lincecum Mariners Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune Said Giants manager Bruce Bochy:  They have a good lineup, their top two guys are going to be gnats. BOX SCORE For the second straight day, Manager Don Wakamatsu heaped praise on catcher Adam Moore, who made two nice plays on bunts, threw out a runner at second trying to steal and went 1-for-2 with two walks. • LaGarrette Blount always planned to work out on March 18 Seahawks Blog | Seattle Times Oregon running back LaGarrette Blount wasn't at his school's pro day on Thursday, but that was not a surprise. He never planned to be, according to agent Zeke Sandhu.Sandhu said in a phone interview Thursday night Blount always planned to work out at Oregon's second pro day on March 18, and NFL teams were advised of that."That was already predetermined," Sandhu said.So Blount didn't go blow off any workout, he stuck to the plan that had already been set, and he'll run next week for NFL teams. Why would Oregon need two pro days, you ask?Well, Brian McIntyre of Mac's Football Blog had an answer t...
  • Under pressure, Mariners hope they can be good — and goofy Seattle Times Being fun and likable doesn't always make a team pitch, hit or play defense better, but in a game where success is often defined by having the mental capacity to overcome frequent failure, the good vibes help.
  • Mariners catcher Adam Moore impressive in spring training Seattle Times Rob Johnson is seemingly entrenched as the Mariners' starting catcher, but is recovering from offseason hip surgery and has yet to play this spring, while Adam Moore is hitting .571.
  • Mariners hand Lincecum, Giants 6-2 loss Seattle Times The Mariners tagged Tim Lincecum in 2 2-3 innings of work on Thursday en route to a 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants.
  • Catching up with Taylor Graham Sounders FC Blog | Seattle Times It was nice to see Taylor Graham out in training Wednesday at Qwest Field. The veteran defender has been dealing with a nagging hamstring injury for most of the preseason, but is on the road to recovery. I recently caught up with Graham to talk about his recovery and some goals for the season. * * * (How do you feel and what's it like out training again?) It's feel good. I came back a little too soon last time and it set me back 10 days or so, which was frustrating because I thought I was making good, quick progress. I want to play. I feel like I've been cursed the last few years with ...
