For the second straight game, West Virginia lost its starting pitcher early in the game. Once again the bullpen came on in relief. A Kyle Davis triple in the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie and gave WVU the commanding lead. Four outs into the game, starting pitcher Chad Donato injured his right arm making a play.
