The Awesomeness Of Nick O'Toole

#boomstache returns with an updated look for 2014 that will set the world on fire.  Every once in a while, a guy comes along that breaks the mold. Nick O'Toole is one of those guys. If you doubt it, you haven't seen the majesty and patriotism of this picture from Big 12 media days. It's the full version of the one you see above (credit: Kevin Jairaj - USA Today Sports). Uninhibited by the cameras and crowds, he seems like the kind of guy that would just fit in anywhere. And because we still have a ways to go before the offseason is over, we're just going to go with it and look at some...

WVU NC State Series Announced

WVU NC State Series Announced

Mountaineers and Wolfpack set to play a two game series in 2018 and 2019. Just like that, 2018 is shaping up to be a big out of conference year for the Mountaineer football team. Yesterday it was announced that the WVU would play a neutral site game against Tennessee in Charlotte North Carolina. Today it was announced that WVU and North Carolina State would  play a two game series. The first in Raleigh, NC in 2018 and then in Morgantown in 2019. The two teams have faced off ten times with each team winning five games. The last win for the Mountaineers was in the 1975 Peach Bowl. So, we're...

Big 12 Media Day One Retweet

A look around at what was said at the first day of the Big 12 preseason kickoff.   If you were looking for a media day one that slowly eased you into the new season, this was not the media day you were looking for. Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby came out with both guns blazing as he opened with his state of the conference. "Unhappy change" just became Bob Bowlsby's ominous buzzphrase for college athletics. #LookingAtYouMidMajors — Allan Taylor (@AllanTaylorWVU) July 21, 2014  From the end of college athletics as you know it, to greed cheating is good or at least can pay off if...

Who Else Should WVU Schedule In The Future?

Luck has added Virginia Tech and Penn State, and is working on Pitt, but what other non-conference opponents would make for good match-ups? With the news last week that Virginia Tech and West Virginia will be renewing their rivalry a couple years earlier than previously anticipated, and last year's announcement about a series with Penn Sate in 2023 and 2024, Oliver Luck has successfully added two of WVU's historic rivals to upcoming schedules. In addition to VT and Penn State, rumors have been around for months about a nonconference neutral site matchup in Charlotte, North Carolina against...

Game Time Set For WVU Maryland

Game Time Set For WVU Maryland

Noon kickoff for 2014 WVU @ Maryland aired by the Big 10 network  It was announced today that the 2014 game between WVU and Maryland will be a noon time kickoff on September 13th. As it is a home game for the Terrapins, the game will be broadcast by the Big Ten network. What is at stake for the Mountaineers is a chance at redemption for last year's loss to Maryland. A loss that ended WVU's seven game winning streak against the Terrapins and what could arguably be the worst offensive showing for WVU in recent memory. The game takes on even more importance when you consider that it is...

Don't Give Up, Don't Ever Give Up

Inspiration from sports and a speech about life. Driving in to work today I tuned into ESPN radio about halfway through the Jimmy Valvano speech from the 1993 ESPY awards. They were playing it because today is the 20th anniversary of the Jimmy V Foundation's annual drive to raise money for cancer research. The speech itself is one of the most inspiring collections of words ever spoken. I'd be lying if I told you I didn't get a little misty listening to the speech this morning. I always do. It's very much the same feeling I get when I listen to the speech Bill Stewart gave to the team before...

West Virginia To Open 2017 Season Against Virginia Tech At FedEx Field

West Virginia To Open 2017 Season Against Virginia Tech At FedEx Field

With a previously announced Home and Home series in 2021-2022, the Mountaineers will additionally open the 2017 season against the Hokies near Washington, D.C. After not playing each other since shortly after the Hokies left the old Big East for the ACC, the battle for The Black Diamond Trophy will renew to start the 2017 season. The game will be held at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C. As you can see from WVU's Director of Athletics, Oliver Luck's statement, this won't affect the previously scheduled Home and Home series set for 2021 & 2022. "West...

Incoming Big 12 Talent: Defensive Backs

This is the first of a short series of articles looking at the Big 12 recruiting classes of 2014 by position in order to hopefully gauge how WVU is stacking up in the recruiting battles versus the rest of the conference, as well as potentially highlight impact newcomers. To start of the series we will be looking at the secondary as a whole rather than cornerbacks and safeties separately as many of the new players could wide up at corner or safety or see time at both. When it comes to recruits listed as athletes,  I will list them with the position that it seems most likely they will try...

Know Your Enemy: Alabama Crimson Tide Offensive Line

Previewing the Crimson Tide's offensive line in Friday Funday fashion. Visualize and attack is still alive as we find ourselves facing the tallest of tall tasks to start out the year. It's nice to know our opponent. But not just the measurables and accolades Alabama has earned, because that would be demoralizing. We need to make them appear beatable or find reasons to laugh if we have any hopes of winning. And a cartoon-ish replacement of their true selves along with some Mortal Kombat finishing moves is the best way to do that. To start off, here's a preview of the Tide offensive...
