Rasul Douglas taken by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 3rd Round of the NFL Draft

Rasul Douglas taken by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 3rd Round of the NFL Draft

Douglas will be close to home in the NFL After a couple of stellar seasons at WVU, Rasul Douglas has been taken by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the NFL Draft. He was the 99th overall pick. Douglas looks to add depth at corner in Philadelphia, joining a staff with 2015 Pro Bowler Malcolm Jenkins. He also joins Wendell Smallwood, who was taken by the Eagles from WVU last year’s draft. If he’s added to the starting rotation, be on the lookout for the December 10th matchup at the Los Angeles Rams, where he will potentially have to cover fellow WVU alumnus, Tavon Austin. In...

Game 1 of West Virginia-Oklahoma series suspended due to lightning

The game will resume Saturday at 2 p.m., Game 2 will follow The West Virginia Mountaineers will have to wait until Saturday to try to grab another Big 12 series win. Due to lightning in the area, the game was suspended after five innings after an hour and forty minutes of delay. Just about all of the action took place in the third inning when the Sooners scored on two consecutive at-bats and Cole Austin came home off of a Darius Hill single in the bottom of the inning. Oklahoma will have a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning when play resumes. BJ Myers will likely remain on the mound.

2017 NFL Draft Profile: West Virginia Wide Receiver Shelton Gibson

2017 NFL Draft Profile: West Virginia Wide Receiver Shelton Gibson

West Virginia’s deep threat is following his dreams to the NFL, and could be a solid receiver right away for a few teams. Shelton Gibson surprised the West Virginia Mountaineer fanbase, as well as the coaching staff, in January when he announced he wouldn’t be returning for his senior season in Morgantown. Despite not getting a first or second round grade from the NFL, Gibson had made up his mind that he wanted to follow his dream of playing at the next level. “Even if I go as a free agent, what’s the biggest thing? Money? I don’t care about money. This is my dream. A lot of...

2017 NFL Draft Profile: West Virginia Defensive End Noble Nwachukwu

2017 NFL Draft Profile: West Virginia Defensive End Noble Nwachukwu

The explosive West Virginia defensive end may be a steal in the later rounds of this weekend’s NFL Draft. Nwachukwu came to West Virginia University out of Wylie, Texas as a three-star recruit, and his journey there was a bit spectacular. The eldest son of Nigerian immigrants, Noble, his father and a high school teammate made the drive from Wylie to Morgantown during the summer before his high school senior year to attend a camp held by the West Virginia coaching staff. After spending an hour with then assistant coaches Daron Roberts and Bill Kirelawich, the trio hopped back in the car...

2017 NFL Draft Profile: West Virginia Center Tyler Orlosky

2017 NFL Draft Profile: West Virginia Center Tyler Orlosky

A three year starter for West Virginia, Orlosky brings a nasty streak to his position. The West Virginia Mountaineers have gone from a full on air attack to a more balanced offensive system and much of that has to do with center Tyler Orlosky. The three year starter for Dana Holgorsen has anchored a line that saw Wendell Smallwood become the leading rusher in the Big 12 in 2015 while averaging over 230 yards per game. In 2016, that number dropped to 225 yards per game. Coming out of Lakewood, Ohio, Orlosky held offers from both Michigan and Michigan State but chose the Mountaineers. Tyler...

2017 NFL Draft Profile: West Virginia Cornerback Rasul Douglas

2017 NFL Draft Profile: West Virginia Cornerback Rasul Douglas

Douglas has went from virtually unknown to a potential NFL starter. How high will he rise? Rasul Douglas’ career had seen slow but steady growth, but ended in an explosion of a true break out season. Douglas ended the 2017 season for the West Virginia Mountaineers with 70 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 8 interceptions. The 8 picks were tied for best in the nation. For his efforts, he was named to the All Big 12 First Team. Rasul was not a top prospect coming out of East Orange, NJ. He redshirted his first season at Nassau Community College and struggled in his freshman season before...

Meet The Most Important Prospect In A Decade

Meet The Most Important Prospect In A Decade

It has been 10 years since West Virginia produced a 4-star recruit. I’ve written before how the state of West Virginia does not produce talent. It is an unfortunate situation for the Mountaineers but it is one they have to live with. Only nine states in the nation have not produced a “blue-chip” recruit in the past 5 years. For West Virginia, it...

West Virginia Mountaineers Vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Preview: Black Diamonds in April

The Mountaineers venture to Blacksburg to rebound after their series loss at Kansas State. OPENING THOUGHTS So here’s a pretty interesting thing that happened to me on Monday. In response to WVU’s series loss this past weekend, Bring On The Cats (K-State’s SB Nation blog) mentioned the win in their K-State Slate (kind of like our Shotgun Throwdown). They also mentioned me: Props to WVUNite for pointing out to me. So during most of the day when I had time, I was pretty much like this: So let me address our colleagues in the heartland directly real quick: Let me remind...

Jevon Carter throws hat in the ring for NBA Draft

He HAS NOT hired an agent. If he does not formally declare, he can still play for WVU next season. West Virginia University issued a brief statement on Monday afternoon stating that Jevon Carter has submitted his name for the NBA Draft. Carter has not hired an agent, therefore he has not forfeited his eligibility for the Mountaineers’ 2017-18 season. “Jevon will go through the process in a systematic and professional manner by exploring the situation and leaving open his option for his senior season,” Bob Huggins said in the statement. Carter was one of the most consistent players of...

Incredible eighth inning rally lifts #21 WVU over K-State 9-7

The Mountaineers have won 7 of their last 10 games on the road. Four runs scored in the eighth inning, including TJ Lake stealing home, lifted the 21st-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers over Kansas State, 9-7. The Mountaineers (23-13, 9-4 Big 12) were down 7-5 after the Wildcats (19-19, 2-11 Big 12) scored on three consecutive at-bats after the stretch. Cole Austin singled to start the inning, then advanced to second on a wild pitch by K-State pitcher Hudson Treu. Darius Hill then flied out to left, allowing Austin to advance to third. Kyle Davis brought Austin home with an...

A Closer Look at David Isreal

A Closer Look at David Isreal

With Will Grier’s suspension status up in the air with the NCAA, our latest JUCO signing might be starting under center against Virginia Tech on Labor Day weekend. Well, in case you haven’t heard we signed ourselves a QB out of Butler Community College named David Isreal. It was a smart move, seeing as how it’s not a foregone conclusion that Will Grier will be eligible for the first six games of this upcoming season (which includes Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Delaware State, Kansas, TCU and Texas Tech) and the other QB in the rotation is Chris Chugunov. If you guys remember, Chugs...

West Virginia Mountaineers Vs. Kansas State Wildcats Preview: The One Against the Cellar

The Mountaineers look for their first Big 12 sweep of the season against the “BatCats” of K-State. OPENING THOUGHTS So, I really don’t have too much to say this weekend. I’m just about to finish up my sophomore year at WVU. Dead week is this week where I have a whole lot of homework to get done, and next week (first week of May) is finals. So I’ve been putting a lot more of my attention on that. Sometimes I wonder why I pay the university for the pleasure of being constantly stressed. I wonder what they do with my tuition? Yeah probably, but I digress... Check out Bart’s...

Cramer is the Catalyst for WVU’s Offense

Cramer is the Catalyst for WVU’s Offense

Jackson Cramer doing the things his team needs him to do is the reason WVU baseball is doing well this season. There are many reasons West Virginia baseball is doing well this 2017 season. A 22-13 record and winning every conference series they’ve played has put the Mountaineers on postseason radars and landed them tied for second in the Big 12. I could point to the aggressive base running, reliable starting pitching, or the overall belief the team has had since the end of April 2016. However, I’m going to highlight one player right now. Jackson Cramer has been doing the little things...
