Jevon Carter and Lamont West lead West Virginia over Texas Longhorns, Final Score 77-62

Jevon Carter and Lamont West lead West Virginia over Texas Longhorns, Final Score 77-62

The Mountaineers get their first sweep of the season. The No. 12th ranked West Virginia Mountaineers secured a first-round bye in the Big 12 Conference tournament tonight after surviving a couple scares and sweeping the Texas Longhorns to move to 22-6 on the season. Things got off to a not-so-hot start for the Mountaineers as the Longhorns jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead to start things off in Morgantown, with absolutely nothing working in West Virginia’s favor. Moments later, West Virginia redshirt freshman forward Lamont West would come off the bench and provide the Mountaineers with a...

WEEKEND RECAP: WVU Baseball Wins Sunday Finale For First Win of Season

WEEKEND RECAP: WVU Baseball Wins Sunday Finale For First Win of Season

The baseball squad starts the season 1-2 after their incredible run in last year’s Big 12 Tournament FRIDAY: Despite rallying from an early 2-0 deficit, Randy Mazes’ squad was unable to defeat the Charlotte 49ers Friday night. Charlotte got on the board early with one run in the second inning and another in the fourth. In the fifth inning, junior left fielder Kyle Davis, who led the team in homeruns as a sophomore, belted his first of the season to tie the game at 2-2. Braden Zarbinsky gave the Mountaineers the lead in the top half of the seventh inning with a double into left center...

West Virginia Mountaineers Vs. Texas Longhorns Preview: Season 108 Episode 28 - The One Before the Tough Trip

West Virginia Mountaineers Vs. Texas Longhorns Preview: Season 108 Episode 28 - The One Before the Tough Trip

WVU takes on Texas before hitting the road to play TCU and Baylor. OPENING THOUGHTS Well that was close. I swear, when I die, it will because WVU did something really stupid in some game. The football and men’s basketball teams create more stress in my life than anything else. It’s sad, but it’s true. With four games left (two of which includes teams WVU is tied with in the Big 12 standings), it’s time to start realizing that there is not much room for error. At 21-6, we’re probably a lock but these four games plus the Big 12 Tournament could mean the difference between a 3 or...

West Virginia holds off Texas Tech in double overtime, 83-74

West Virginia holds off Texas Tech in double overtime, 83-74

The number of cardiac health emergencies in the state of West Virginia continues to climb. The West Virginia Mountaineers saw another late lead disappear against a conference foe on Saturday as Texas Tech’s Kennan Evans hit a knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to force the first of two overtimes in Morgantown. Jevon Carter and Elijah Macon led the way for the Mountaineers. Carter had a team-high 24 points and seven rebounds, and Elijah Macon turned in his second career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds after taking over in the two overtime periods. The first half saw the...

West Virginia drops season opener at Charlotte 6-3

West Virginia drops season opener at Charlotte 6-3

It was too little, too late for the Mountaineers on Friday. The West Virginia baseball team lost their first game of the season, 6-3, at Charlotte on Friday. The Mountaineers (0-1) got into an early hole, down 2-0, within the first few innings, but responded when Kyle Davis hit a 2-run homer to tie the game in the top of the fifth. Jimmy Galusky scored two innings later off of a Braden Zarbnisky double to give WVU a 3-2 lead going into the seventh inning stretch. The 49ers (1-0) scored four in the bottom of that same inning to take the lead, 6-3. West Virginia never recovered. BJ Myers...

WVU Hoops Back in Top 10 This Week

Two revenge wins put the Mountaineers back among the top 10 teams in the AP poll. WVU men’s basketball team finds itself back in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 this week. The Mountaineers sit at No. 9 after wins at Oklahoma and Kansas State at home, teams who defeated them earlier in the season. Now, the Mountaineers (20-5, 8-4) travel to Lawrence, Kansas, to take on No. 3 Kansas. The Jayhawks (22-3, 10-2) have a historically good record in Phogg Allen Fieldhouse, but dropped home contest to Iowa State two weeks ago. West Virginia Mountaineers Vs. Kansas Jayhawks Preview: Season 108 Episode 26 - The One At The Phog

WVU has one day off before heading to Allen Fieldhouse to take on Kansas OPENING THOUGHTS Welp. Here we go again... After a solid win against Kansas State, West Virginia has a quick turnaround before taking on blue blood Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse. In four attempts, the Mountaineers have not won there. This long stretch of trouble with a certain venue is similar to another in recent history. The Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh. From 2005 to 2011, WVU could never win here. Even when they went to the Final Four, Pitt still beat them. This streak is way worse in my opinion....

Carter, Adrian lead No. 13 West Virginia over Kansas State 85-66

20 (foul) win (foul) achievement (foul) unlocked. DISCLAIMER: I also wrote the recap for the Associated Press. Since I don’t really have time to re-word another recap for the site. I’m just going to copy and paste my AP recap. Just be aware that this is the AP recap. I don’t want to get in trouble. Jevon Carter was pretty excited to exact revenge against Kansas State. “Revenge was a factor,” said Carter. “That’s what the Big 12’s all about. You get to play everybody twice. If you lose, you get a chance at redemption.” His 19 points and nine rebounds led No. 13 West...

West Virginia picks up Syracuse graduate transfer cornerback Corey Winfield

The Mountaineers will add some veteran experience at the corner position. Dana Holgorsen said the Mountaineers would make moves after signing day to complete the 2017 class, and it looks as though the first piece of the puzzle is now in place. Former Syracuse Orange cornerback Corey Winfield announced his commitment to West Virginia this evening on Instagram while on his official visit to Morgantown. Winfield was recruited to Syracuse as a wide receiver, but switched to the defensive side of the ball during his redshirt freshman season. While at Syracuse, Winfield accounted...

Two Former Mountaineers Engaged in a Heated Twitter Exchange

Bruce Irvin and Skyler Howard let it all out on Twitter When there is no football, everyone gets crazy. Especially two strong competitors like Bruce Irvin and Skyler Howard. Howard has always played with a chip on his shoulder but last night that escalated into a testosterone-fueld keyboard-banging fight. Like most Mountaineer fans, Irvin was irate at the entire play of WVU in the Russel Athletic Bowl. Skyler apparently found out about Bruce’s tweets last night and the exchange started. Glad I got to play with some dawgs at wvu! We was just built different knew what it meant to wear...

West Virginia Mountaineers Vs. Kansas State Wildcats Preview: Season 105 Episode 25 - The One Outside the Octagon

West Virginia has a quick turnaround to get set for Kansas State. OPENING THOUGHTS Honestly, after the WVU game at Oklahoma on Wednesday. I got nothing. I really try to have something to say in every preview, but I just can’t find a whole lot of positive things to say about the team right now. Meh, Beetle Bolden I guess. I think Mitch Vingle of the Charleston Gazette-Mail described the game perfectly: My eyes are bleeding...— Mitch Vingle (@MitchVingle) February 9, 2017 Um...yeah. Beetle Bolden leads WVU over Oklahoma 61-50

...in a competition that was reminiscent of a basketball game In a game that just wouldn’t end, West Virginia exacted revenge against Oklahoma, 61-50, in Norman. The Mountaineers (19-5) shot 37% from the field, their worst performance of the season. Oklahoma (8-15) started the game on an 11-2 run, led by Kameron McGusty going into the first media timeout. Beetle Bolden lit the fuse for West Virginia by going on a seven point scoring run within 42 seconds, but accumulated two fouls so he was benched. The Sooners responded with a nine point scoring run, so Bolden went back in a hit a couple...
