West Virginia 34, Oklahoma State 10: The Game They Said We Couldn't Win

With every reason to be caught napping, WVU showed up and showed the nation that they are for real, dispatching the Oklahoma State Cowboys with an ease that nobody expected, least of all WVU fans. These are the games they said we couldn't win. These are the games WE said we couldn't win. It had all the elements - sandwiched between huge games against top 10 foes. Going on the road into a notorious place to play against a scrappy squad that had nothing to lose. Taking on a suddenly-undervalued team that a week before was 5-1 and top 15. The Mountaineers said screw it all. WVU swaggered into...

Game Preview: West Virginia vs Oklahoma State: Q & A With @TheSignalCaller

I so much fun last week I thought let's do it again. We sit down with @TheSignalCaller Jed Drenning to preview WVU and Oklahoma State. Howdy. It was a heady week in Mountaineer country as we all digested the first regular season victory over a top 5 team in over a decade. But it's time to settle down and look ahead to the next challenge: a road trip to Stillwater to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys. I've been fooling around with format for this preview so I'm going to keep tinkering. First I'll throw out a couple quick things I've found about the Cowboys, then we'll get to the part that...

Previewing WVU vs Oklahoma State With Mike Gundy Animated Gifs

Because sometimes funny gifs don't need context. Sometimes it's hard to think of anything else other than Dana and Mike hitting the town when they get together. And doing so despite the wishes of Mike's wife. But while it never gets old in my head, it might not be the case for you. So I wanted to try something different. I'm sure if I was feeling mean spirited, I could put something together with a couple guys passed out in line at a drive thru. Or I could fall back on the "I'm a man, I'm forty" thing. None of that really sounds funny to me, though. So let's just post some gifs that stand...

Staring Down The Musket At...The Oklahoma State Cowboys - Q&A With Cowboys Ride For Free

Robert Whetsell from Cowboys Ride For Free joins the Musket to talk about the match up this Saturday in Stillwater. Our buddy Robert Whetsell from Cowboys Ride For Free was kind enough to answer some questions about this weekend's game between the Pokes and the Mountaineers. Let's get to it. Matt: Oklahoma State and West Virginia had a pretty similar start to the season. Neutral site game against a top 3 opponent that ended up as a more competitive loss than expected. I think that the Alabama game really helped WVU get ready for this season by having to get amped up for a big challenge...

West Virginia University Football Power Rankings Week 8

White at #1 and several WVU defenders make their first appearance. 1. Kevin White It seems that with every game that passes Kevin White's season becomes more memorable. White has been flat out dominant, and no defender appears capable of stopping him. For the game White had eight catches for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns. For the year White now has 100-yard receiving performances in each of his first seven games. Per ESPN, outside of White only two receivers, Michael Crabtree and Justin Blackmon, in the past fifteen years have done the same and both of those players went on to win the...

West Virginia Mountaineers Football Recruiting: What You May Have Missed (10/22/14)

The Mountaineers receive a new defensive line commitment and a few more at wide receiver and running back could potentially be on the horizon. The scholarship and spot that opened up in the 2015 West Virginia recruiting class last week with Larry Jefferson flipping did not stay unclaimed for long as DE Adam Schuler announced his pledge on Twitter after the Baylor game out of nowhere. The lightly recruited DE from Florida is definitely one of the more under-rated prospects in the class right now. Most major recruiting sites have him unranked, though he is considered as high as a 3 star by...

Morgantown Riots: Finding A Constructive Solution To Destruction

There needs to be more than calls for expulsion, more than telling people to grow up. Words aren't going to stop the idea that wanton destruction is a WVU tradition. It needs to be reined in and controlled by the University by proactive, not reaction measures. A long time ago, long before my time at WVU, there was something called the Grant Street Block Party. Thousands of students and non-students would storm Grant Street in Sunnyside and celebrate the beginning of a new school year in Morgantown. It was bedlam, and it would grow out of hand year in and year out.The university created...

The Mountaineer Retweet: West Virginia Upsets Baylor. We're Back.

West Virginia upset Baylor to notify the nation that, after a challenging transition to a new conference, Mountaineer football is back. It was a great day to be a Mountaineer and a great day to be on Twitter! You don't need me to tell you what happened on Saturday afternoon, but I'm going to do it anyway. West Virginia's win over the #4 ranked Baylor Bears was a long time coming for the Mountaineers and after several tries, Dana Holgorsen finally has a signature win of the post-Orange Bowl era at WVU. But there's so much to cover and so much fun to be had so I'm not going to tarry. You...
