WVU Men's Basketball: Mountaineer Freshmen Help WVU Advance To Finals Of Puerto Rico Tip-Off, Defeat BC 70-66

Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles played like anything but freshmen in helping the Mountaineers advance to the finals of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The media guide may say they're freshmen, but Daxter Miles and Jevon Carter played like anything but in the West Virginia Mountaineers 70-66 victory over the Boston College Eagles on Friday night. With 3:42 to go and the Mountaineers holding a two point lead, Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Juwan Staten picked up his fifth foul. But Carter and Miles, with some help from Devin Williams & Gary Browne, kept things afloat as WVU put away Boston...

West Virginia Mountaineers Football Recruiting: What You May Have Missed (11/21/14) & Current Commt List

A quick recruiting update, as well as a rundown of the current commits in the recruiting class of 2015. Beyond the commitment of Xavier Pegues last week, recruiting has been fairly quiet for the Mountaineers. But if you look at the class all of the sudden you understand way. The Mountaineers' 2015 class is solid. If they called it a day right now and stopped recruiting kids it would still be solid. But I would expect a few more speed guys and maybe one or two lineman, likely JUCOs or Jamie Herr. Jordan Cronkrite is very much in the picture still and Coach Seider is doing a great job of...

West Virginia Beats Itself (Again), Loses to Kansas State 26-20

The Mountaineers couldn't get out of their way and despite a late rally were unable to overcome a heavy does of miscues to beat Kansas State. The Wildcats for their part were more than happy to unwrap the gifts. The mistakes came early and often and despite a spirited second half West Virginia was unable to overcome their own mistakes as they lost to the 12th ranked Kansas State Wildcats 26-20. The Mountaineers once again were their own worst enemy and a three game losing streak threatens to spoil a season that was once in some heady, heady places. After WVU got the ball to open up play...

Rapid Recap: West Virginia 20 Kansas State 26

Quick thoughts on WVU's hard-fought but mistake-filled 20-26 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats. The book on the Kansas State Wildcats isn't a mystery. They play tight to the vest and don't make mistakes. Except tonight they made a ton of them. A turnover, a missed field goal, a touchdown taken off the board for a penalty and over twice as many penalties (9) as they've averaged on the season (4). And they ran for 1 yard. We got an answer to our question about whether or not something's been wrong with Clint Trickett. It has been. Once Skyler Howard came into the game to replace an injured...

WVU Men's Basketball: Mountaineers Shut Down George Mason, Win 91-65

The Mountaineers advance in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, shutting down George Mason 91-65. For those of you who just couldn't miss that House Hunters rerun (or maybe something else), you missed a great performance by the West Virginia Mountaineers basketball team. If they play like this for the rest of the season, there won't be a question of whether they get into the NCAA tournament, but only how high of a seed they can claim. West Virginia shot 50% (!!!!) in the first half, forced 16 turnovers, had 10 steals, and held a 53-27 lead. It was more of the same in the second half, with West...

Dana Holgorsen And The Wicked Wizard's Curse

Bill Snyder has cursed the Mountaineers in a series that is over 80 years old. Tonight, that curse ends. Click here for the full poster. It's been a wizard's age since WVU last beat Kansas State on the gridiron. 1930 to be exact. Not a lot of people know this, but that was Bill Snyder's first loss as the Kansas State coach. And apparently, he never forgot about it. Since then, Snyder's Wildcats have been on a mission to crush the Mountaineers. Or as they were known as back then, the Snakes. Which is weird considering Bill Snyder is a parseltongue. Because of this power that Snyder...

Game Preview: West Virginia Mountaineers vs Kansas State Wildcats

The Mountaineers look to get back on the winning track and send their seniors out with a Thursday night win. Milan Puskar Stadium will be rocking as West Virginia welcomes the #12 ranked Kansas State Wildcats. Here's what to watch for. I'll be honest with you - I don't know much about Kansas State. In fact the only substantial chunk of any of their games I've watched was that well-documented home loss to the Auburn Tigers. What I saw was a talented team with a scrappy and effective defense but unreliable offense. A star player in Tyler Lockett who was talented, but nooooot quite good enough...

My, What A Guy, Juwan! - A Disney Song Parody In Honor Of WVU Point Guard Juwan Staten

Basketball season is underway and WVU has one of the best point guards in the nation. What better way to celebrate that than to create a Disney song parody in his honor. Let's get insane. (Scene: Sports Page, High Street, Morgantown, West Virginia. Juwan Staten sits alone at the bar, dejected and embarrassed, looking back at the missed opportunities down the stretch that lead to the Mountaineers missing the NCAA tournament for a second straight season and losing to Georgetown in the first round of the NIT. His phone goes off. Eron Harris and Terry Henderson have transferred. Pissed off,...

Staring Down The Musket At...West Virginia Basketball. A Preseason Q&A with Michael Carvelli.

Friend of the blog Michael Carvelli from Blue & Gold News joins the Musket for a little round of preseason shootyhoops Q&A. West Virginia basketball season is underway. We brought in Blue & Gold News' MIchael Carvelli to talk about the noles his expectations for this season. Matt: Let's start from the top with Juwan Staten. What are his chances of replicating or improving on his amazing 2013-2014 season? Beyond that, what do you think of Juwan as an NBA prospect? My opinion is mid-late First Round with a potential to be a fringe lottery pick, but what are your thoughts on that? Michael:...
