Lions Fan Fiction: Aaron Donald's 6 sacks propel Detroit to big win over Panthers

Lions Fan Fiction: Aaron Donald's 6 sacks propel Detroit to big win over Panthers

The Lions defensive tackle is dominating in this alternate dimension. Detroit Lions Fan Fiction is a series in which we take a Lions loss and instead of facing it like a braver person might, we turn to a false reality where the Lions won the game. It’s a cowardly act, no doubt, but this post is an effort to create levity and humor when defeat strikes. The hope is that this is therapeutic for at least one fan out there. This week’s fan fiction is a long time coming. It’s time to fulfill your greatest fantasies, Lions fans. Detroit, MI—It was another dominant performance from the...

Opposing player to watch: Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald

Opposing player to watch: Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald

If Von Miller isn’t the best defensive player in the league, this guy might be. Over the first three games of the season the Cowboys have faced some great defenses that have stressed their vaunted offensive line. In looking at the front 7’s of the Giants, Broncos, and Cardinals you notice that they are primarily built around their edge rushers, with premier talents like Von Miller, Chandler Jones, Olivier Vernon, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Markus Golden. Each of those guys are among the best, and in some cases are considered the best at their respective positions. Needless to say, the...

49ers-Rams film breakdown: Taking a look at San Francisco’s sacks allowed

49ers-Rams film breakdown: Taking a look at San Francisco’s sacks allowed

The 49ers allowed four sacks against the Rams in Week 3. We take a look at the film to — what else — assign blame. The San Francisco 49ers’ offensive line looked better against the Seattle Seahawks than it did against the Carolina Panthers. Replacing Zane Beadles with Laken Tomlinson at left guard has improved the unit, but the guard spots — including Brandon Fusco at right guard — remain a weakness. Against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, the line was actually fairly decent overall, I thought. Going up against Aaron Donald, perhaps the best defensive player in the entire NFL, is...

49ers-Rams preview: Talking Aaron Donald’s return and this LA defense

49ers-Rams preview: Talking Aaron Donald’s return and this LA defense

The Rams defense has a lot of potential, and benefits from the return of Aaron Donald. We broke it down with Turf Show Times. The San Francisco 49ers have had tough defensive challenges in each of their first two games. The Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks are two of the better defenses they’ll face this season. The 49ers offense has a lot of work to do, but it certainly did not help facing those two squads coming out of the gate. Things don’t exactly get much easier in Week 3. The 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football, and they get a unit that likely will...

Aaron Donald returns in Week 2 loss to Washington

Donald's return wasn't reflected so much in his stat line as it was in the impact on his teammates. Donald's return allowed linebackers Alec Ogletree and Marc Barron to combine for 21 tackles and a sack. Donald is right up there with JJ Watt for the most dominant defensive player in the game and should be started every week regardless of matchup. Fantasy Spin:In his first game of the year, Aaron Donald recorded two tackles, including one solo and one for a loss, in Sunday's 27-20 loss to Washington.

Mark Barron records 10 tackles in loss

Barron was able to do his damage because of the return of Aaron Donald and a monster game from fellow linebacker Alec Ogletree. The two of them demanded double teams and allowed the rest of the defense to do the damage. Barron wasn't considered worthy of a roster spot while Donald was out, but is now worth keeping an eye on to see if this 10-tackle performance was a fluke. Fantasy Spin:Mark Barron was able to record 10 solo tackles, two of which were for a loss in the Rams' Week 2 loss to the Redskins.
