Hill outran everyone for a 36-yard TD. The Chiefs took a 7-3 lead over the AFC-leading Oakland Raiders on Thursday Night Football when Alex Smith hit Tyreek Hill with a 36-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Hill, the fastest player in the NFL, outran everyone to haul in the score.

Can Alex Smith keep the Chiefs’ offense rolling as the Raiders come to Kansas City? The Kansas City Chiefs may have one of the NFL’s best records, but Alex Smith is still his game-managing self. Thankfully, there are no more bye weeks or injuries to major quarterbacks that may have forced you to start Smith at some point this year.

That’s dedication to your craft. With the Chiefs driving into Falcon territory, quarterback Alex Smith dropped back on 3rd-and-4 before getting sacked and stripped by Atlanta’s Vic Beasley. Players from each team fell into a pile in the ensuing scrum for the ball, and umpire Jeff Rice made sure he got the best possible view of the recovery.Rice body-surfed his way into the pile, eventually landing flat on his back before declaring a Falcon recovery. ...

Chiefs dump Raiders to take AFC West lead: Final score, 10 things to know | CBSSports.com However, even if you include those five drops as catches, Carr still wasn't himself. The Raiders quarterback was erratic for most of the night, throwing in front of receivers, behind receivers and over their head. At one point, NBC showed a graphic that proved Carr wasn't using his pinkie at all to grip the ball. As you can see below, Smith was using his, but Carr wasn't. Behind the scenes with the voice of the Chiefs | KCTV5 As entertaining as last night's Chiefs game was, there was another great...

NFL playoff picture: Can Alex Smith and the Chiefs break through?

The Chiefs beat the Raiders to take over the AFC West lead. Time to update where things stand in the AFC playoff picture. The AFC got things going on Thursday Night Football with a monster matchup between the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs hosted the game and pulled out a narrow 21-13 victory. Kansas City jumped on top 21-3, in the first half, and seemed set to cruise to victory. Alex Smith was dropping dimes and looking as good as I have ever seen him. He would finish the game 17 of 26 for 264 yards with a touchdown and an interception. However, the Raiders managed a...

Alex Smith is on national TV so of course he’s throwing deep TD passes

Alex Smith doesn’t go deep, huh? Now that he’s on national TV he’s showing that’s not always the case. He does go deep. Only sometimes though. Alex threw from a crowded pocket 39 yards downfield to Chris Conley, who made a terrific catch on third down. What I loved the most is that the pocket wasn’t clean and he still wound up and threw it. Alex also has a 15-yard and 16-yard pass to Kelce and a 16-yard pass to Maclin. That was just the warmup though. The main event was t his 36-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill, who simply out ran his man. Big Time Throw #TNF...

Golden Nuggets: Click here to see the name “Alex Smith” several times

Supposedly 49ers links for Thursday 12/8/2016, but including the name “Alex Smith” in the title will bring me sweet, sweet page hits They say it’s necessary to wait 3 years to grade a draft class properly; this is an instance in which I agree with “they”. While the circumstances are ultimately dissimilar, perhaps “they” might agree to a 3 year moratorium on grading trades. One particular journalist, however, saw the opportunity to pounce, willingly kicking a fanbase when they’re down, and reminding us that Alex Smith has actually outplayed the man who took his job. I’ll be...

Alex Smith All-22 vs. Falcons: Who is this guy?

Some weeks, this job is just a whole lot of fun. I’ll be honest, sometimes it’s wearing, writing about Alex Smith (easily the most controversial Chief) every single week. I don’t LIKE seeing fights in the comments. I don’t LIKE getting emails telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about from both sides of the issue. I don’t LIKE knowing that no matter what I write, someone is going to be mad. But sometimes, it’s not so bad. When we can all (well, maybe all) sit down and agree on Alex Smith, that’s just gravy. Alex Smith played an exceptional game against the...

Alex Smith is the Chiefs Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee

The Kansas City Chiefs lead the NFL with five Walter Payton Man of the Year award winners. They’re looking to make it six. The NFL announced this year’s nominee for the Man of the Year award from every team. For the Chiefs, Alex Smith is the nominee. Football aside, Alex is a terrific person. I’ve seen him participate in things around the community on a regular basis (most recently with Minsky’s and his foundation). He runs a terrific foundation that has been applauded as one of the top athlete foundations. The Chiefs will have all five of their Man of the Year nominees at the...

Chiefs’ Andy Reid and Alex Smith dominate the Raiders

Chiefs’ Andy Reid and Alex Smith dominate the Raiders Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith said he loves the rivalry with the Raiders. Scratch that, Smith and Kansas City coach Andy Reid share custody of the Raiders. Smith, dating to his 49ers days, is 8-1 against Oakland with 18 touchdowns and three interceptions (and his teams average 29 points a game). Reid is 6-1 against the Raiders since he took over the Chiefs in 2013 and has not lost to them at Arrowhead Stadium. “This is fun,” Smith told reporters. The Chiefs, who have beaten the Raiders four straight times, have exploited the...

The stats: Alex Smith vs. the Raiders and Derek Carr vs. the Chiefs

The stats: Alex Smith vs. the Raiders and Derek Carr vs. the Chiefs

They say this is a league of quarterbacks so let’s take a look at the quarterback matchup on Thursday night between the Chiefs and Raiders. Alex Smith is clearly in the driver’s seat with this one. As a Chief, Alex is 6-1 against the Raiders with four consecutive wins against them. The Chiefs haven’t lost to Oakland since the 2014 season. Or, to put it another way, Eric Berry has been diagnosed and beaten cancer since the Chiefs last lost to Oakland. The problem is that what Derek Carr did against the Chiefs two years ago may not be as relevant as Alex Smith. Alex has been pretty...

In doing so, the Chiefs (9-€”3) displayed a big-play gear that they've lacked in recent seasons. Quarterback Alex Smith came into Week 13 having thrown just 22 passes of at least 20 yards on the season. He had five against the Falcons, including three to tight end Travis Kelce. Chiefs-Falcons preview: Julio Jones vs. KC defense, Justin Houston’s pass rush and more

Thanks to Dave over at SB Nation’s Falcons blog, The Falcoholic, for answering our Chiefs-Falcons questions. Find our Q&A below. Why should Matt Ryan be the MVP? Falcoholic: Great question, my friend. I have three good reasons for you: 1) He's not Tom Brady. 2) He's putting together the most successful season of his career and is running the most effective offense in the NFL with very few mistakes and a ton of eye-popping numbers. He's had a great supporting cast and Kyle Shanahan has done a nice job with his scheming, but you don't get these results with Alex Smith (sorry) or Joe Flacco...

How are Alex Smith and the Chiefs all of a sudden so good in the fourth quarter?

How are Alex Smith and the Chiefs all of a sudden so good in the fourth quarter?

How can Alex Smith look so bad for three and a half quarters and then look so good for another half quarter and overtime when the pressure is on? This stat via ESPN isn’t what I expected to see out of the Chiefs this year because Alex Smith doesn’t strike me as the lead-a-big-comeback type: The Raiders are +39 in scoring in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter. The Chiefs are second at +27. “Yeah, it’s weird, but I think the crazier it gets, the calmer he is,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “For whatever reason – that’s just how he’s wired. It seems to just calm...
