How realistic are Justin Rogers’ 5 Detroit Lions trade candidates?

As the Detroit Lions prepare for their second preseason game, Friday night against the New York Giants, talk has heated up about which players will make the 53-man roster, which will be cut, and which could be trade chips. Justin Rogers of The Detroit News put out a piece this morning which list five current Lions who could end up being traded. Here are the players he believes could be heading out of town sooner than later along with my two cents on whether or not I agree. RB – Ameer Abdullah Embed from Rogers’ rationale: “Let’s start with the obvious option. Abdullah struggled last...

Open thread: Who will be the player of the game in Lions vs. Giants?

Open thread: Who will be the player of the game in Lions vs. Giants?

It’s prediction time again! It’s gameday again, and that means it’s another opportunity for players on the roster bubble to make their case for a spot on the 53. It’s been an up and down week of practice with the New York Giants, so Friday night could be drastically important for some fringe players. After all, cut day is just over two weeks away, and opportunities to impress are running out. Last week, there were a few standouts that certainly helped their cause. Leo Koloamatangi stood out among reserve offensive linemen. Ameer Abdullah made a really strong case for keeping him on...

Film Room: Ameer Abdullah carries the Lions to a touchdown

Film Room: Ameer Abdullah carries the Lions to a touchdown

The running back was a center piece of the Lions lone offensive success. The Detroit Lions only managed to score one touchdown in their preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders on Friday. The drive came courtesy of Ameer Abdullah, the running back who many believed was on the roster bubble entering this game. He showed off the vision and creativity he has as a runner that made him such an exciting draft pick just three years ago and carried the team downfield into the endzone. Abdullah’s first carry on the drive came on a second-and-long. He got decent run blocking from the interior...

Bubble Watch Week 2: Ameer Abdullah nearing roster-lock status

Bubble Watch Week 2: Ameer Abdullah nearing roster-lock status

After an impressive preseason game, is Ameer Abdullah now a roster-lock? With one preseason game on the record, it’s time to revisit the Detroit Lions’ roster. With players making an impression against the Oakland Raiders last week—both positive and negative—the outlook for those roster bubble players has already changed drastically. So, again, I polled the Pride of Detroit staff to give their best predictions of which players are on the outside looking in, and who’s stuck on the outside of the roster bubble. It’s Week 2 Bubble Watch! Catch up on the previous versions...

4 Winners and 6 Losers from the Lions’ preseason loss to the Raiders

4 Winners and 6 Losers from the Lions’ preseason loss to the Raiders

It was a mixed bag from the Lions’ preseason opener. Winners RB Ameer Abdullah Abdullah was only on the statsheet for four carries and 16 yards, but they were hard-earned yards, including one for a touchdown. He also had a couple of positive runs that ended up being called back due to penalties, as well as a nice grab for seven yards. Abdullah was thought to be a fringe player heading into training camp and is already doing his best to solidify a roster spot. And I’ve got to say, I’m rooting for the comeback. .@Ameerguapo with the first #Lions touchdown of the year. #OnePride...

Do you feel better, worse or the same after Lions’ preseason loss to Raiders?

Do you feel better, worse or the same after Lions’ preseason loss to Raiders?

How was the 2018 Lions’ first impression? If first impressions are everything, I’m thinking Matt Patricia may want a mulligan. The first-time head coach led his team out on the field against the Oakland Raiders for Friday’s preseason opener and it got ugly early. Though the Detroit Lions were only down 3-0 after one quarter, they were getting outgained 118-19. From there, the game evened out quite a bit. The Lions’ running game was the highlight of the game, with Ameer Abdullah and Kerryon Johnson leading the torch of optimism. The defense stiffened up for a good portion of the...
