McCoy to Injured Reserve

Seahawks Blog | Seattle Times — In case you missed it yesterday --- I apologize in advance for not getting it on the blog --- tight end Anthony McCoy passed through waivers on Wednesday and was reverted to the injured reserve list. McCoy was placed on the waived/injured list on Tuesday after suffering an Achilles injury last week that could keep him out up to nine months. Since the season has yet to start, the team had to expose him to waivers before it could put him on the IR. Any team claiming him would have had to pay his 2013 salary (a base of $630,000). As is usually the case in these situations, he was not claimed and ...

Anthony McCoy clears waivers, reverts to injured reserve

Field Gulls — Seahawks TE Anthony McCoy cleared waivers Wednesday and will now be placed on the Seahawks' injured reserve. He will not count toward the 90-man roster. McCoy tore his achilles tendon last week and was waived Tuesday, prompting some fears that he'd be claimed by another club; ultimately, no team was willing to pay his salary in the off-chance that he'll be ready to return to action in 2013, and McCoy becomes a free agent in 2014, so there was no long-term benefit from another team grabbing him and stashing him on the IR. McCoy was Seattle's backup tight end in 2012 and played in nearly...

Seahawks waived/injured TE Anthony McCoy, sign T Jake Bscherer

Field Gulls — The Seahawks have waived/injured Anthony McCoy. The fourth-year tight end tore his achilles tendon last week and is very unlikely to play in 2013 as he faces a probable six-to-nine month rehabilitation. McCoy is now subject to waivers and if no team claims him, he'll revert to Seattle's reserve injured list. Essentially, the Seahawks don't see McCoy as a contributor this season due to the injury, and likely felt it was an acceptable risk that another team may claim the 2014 unrestricted free agent. If another team does claim McCoy, they'll be paying him his $656k salary in the hopes th...

  • Anthony McCoy tears achilles, will likely miss 2013 season
Seahawks tight end Anthony McCoy, carted off the field with what was called an ankle injury at OTAs earlier this week, has a torn achilles tendon and will now miss six to nine months. He had surgery on Thursday. Per Ian Rapoport, the achilles injury was a partial tear, which, from what I understand, is preferable with regards to rehab and the process toward eventually regaining full strength. McCoy had 18 catches for 291 yards and 3 touchdowns last season, and his 16.2 yards per catch is no surprise - in what seemed like the majority of the times he was targeted, he was wide open down...
  • Achilles injury hits Seattle's TE depth
Seahawks tight end Anthony McCoy needed surgery to repair a partially torn Achilles tendon tear. The back up to Zach Miller last season, McCoy was ranked the 12th best pass catching tight end by NFL.com. Though his run-blocking was suspect, he gave Russell Wilson an effective target. "NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Friday that McCoy went under the knife Thursday and is expected to miss at least six to nine months, according to a person briefed on his injury. McCoy simply was running when the injury occurred, according to RapSheet..." - via NFL.com's Marc Sessler It seems like there'...

(AP Photo/Ted S. Warren) First reported by Mike Garafolo of USA Today, I can confirm that Seattle Seahawks tight end Anthony McCoy had surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon injury on Thursday that he appeared to suffer in practice earlier this week. If lost for the season, McCoy would be a blow to Seattle’s depth at tight end for the upcoming season. A torn Achilles tendon usually takes si...
