Austin Collie - Collie might not be 100 percent until Oct.

The Huddle — Free-agent WR Austin Collie (knee, concussions) is doing plenty of pool work, leg weight work, and some light running in his rehab from knee surgery. His goal is to be 100 percent ready by the time he reports to training camp for his new team, although it might take until October or so until he is full speed again. Huddle Up: A no-risk, incentive-heavy 1-year deal from some team is likely the best hope for Collie, who caught 118 passes, including 15 scores, over this first NFL seasons in 2009 and '10.

Collie limited until October?

CBSSports.com Fantasy — In an interesting interview with Sports Illustrated it was revealed that receiver Austin Collie might not run at full speed until October as he makes his way back from a ruptured right patellar tendon suffered in 2012. He's also upset with the stigma that he's concussion prone. "Honestly, it's getting to me. It's getting frustrating to deal with the perception, and this is like the first time I've admitted that," Collie said. "... Obviously from the public's view it's going to take a few years of not having anything go wrong, because if it does, people are going to be like, 'Oh, this kid's fra...

With Austin Collie, It's A Tale Of What Could Have Been

Stampede Blue — Let's be blunt: We're happy the Colts parted ways with Austin Collie last Friday. Truly, we are. Yeah, it sounds cruel, but that's life in the NFL. Our cruelty isn't because we detest Collie as a person. In many ways, we have to be cruel to be kind. We imagine the Colts are following the same train of thought. The reality is Collie's football career as a player should have ended the moment he sustained concussion No. 4 (that we know of) against the Steelers in preseason last year. Austin Collie sustained four concussions in two years, including three in one season (2011). Yes, yes, yes...

Reconnaissance Report: What's Happening in the AFC South?

Battle Red Blog — Indianapolis Colts The Colts' transition into the Andrew Luck Era continues as they have recently notified Dwight Freeney and Austin Collie that they will not be retained for the 2013 season. Freeney's struggles in the Colts' new 3-4 scheme have been well-documented, so his departure is no surprise. The team is clearly moving towards youth and potential. Chuck Pagano will have all the power to mold this team without constraints from the previous regime. While it will be nice to see an old foe leave the division, this move makes the Colts younger, more unpredictable and loaded with s...

Colts news: WR Austin Collie not coming back; TE Dwayne Allen is a 'tremendous weapon'

FFToolbox.com — Colts owner Jim Irsay said Saturday that the team will not re-sign free agent wide receiver Austin Collie. Collie, 27, has spent his entire four-year career with the Colts, but his last three years have been marred by four concussions followed by a torn patellar tendon in his first game back this season from post-concussion symptoms. Elsewhere on the offensive side in Indy, it appears tight end Dwyane Allen has a fan in offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton. Hamilton told the team's official website that Allen "is a tremendous weapon that you want to have in any offense" because Allen can lineup ...

  • Dwight Freeney And Austin Collie Available, But Do Falcons Want Them?
This is the time of year where teams cut their oldest and most injury-prone players. Not decisions to be made lightly, but sometimes that has to happen. The Colts became the latest team to take that step, releasing both Dwight Freeney and Austin Collie. Freeney was perhaps the best defensive end in team history, an expert pass rusher who was one of the team's best players in the Peyton Manning era. Collie was a promising slot receiver whose career has been derailed by concussions and injuries. I don't have to tell you that both these players have considerable talent. I also shouldn't h...
  • Confirmed: Colts Parts Ways With Dwight Freeney And Austin Collie
Last year, when the Colts released quarterback Peyton Manning, it was correctly dubbed the end of an era. However, because players like Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis, and Dwight Freeney were retained, the "new era" Colts didn't feel completely new. Today, Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz has reported, via an unnamed source, that the Colts have parted ways with seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time All Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney and wide receiver Austin Collie. Freeney's departure closes the door on a chapter in Indianapolis Colts history. Now, to be clear, Freeney is a free a...

When Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie was slow to get up from the turf at Heinz Field in August 2012 after absorbing what seemed to be a routine tackle, we fans assumed the worst. The assumption turned out to be the diagnosis. Another concussion for Collie, his fourth in two years. Collie's future with the Colts for 2013 does not look promising. He missed much of last season after tearing ligaments in his knee in the Colts Week Three loss to the Jaguars, but even before coming back to that game, he missed significant time while recovering from his preseason "ding." Severa...
