This date in ROTB history: Beanie Wells injured and the Kolb/Skelton competition

Revenge Of The Birds — What were we all talking about a year ago? Well, since there isn't a ton of other news, we can do that. Back in May 2012, the team was in the middle of OTAs. However, while Kevin Kolb and John Skelton were splitting the first team snaps, running back Beanie Wells was sitting out. Here is what a pair of articles said from that day: Kolb and Skelton were on even ground: "I think the knee-jerk reaction would be to say that it is Kevin's job to lose. But then you have to look at what John Skelton did last year in winning those games when he was in there. So I think you have to give John ...

ROTB Roundtable: Released Players, Front Office, and FA Targets

Revenge Of The Birds — And with new acquisitions and releases, comes questions. The ROTB Writing Staff takes their swing at answering two of these. Don't forget to answer the questions yourself in the comments below! 1) Do you agree with the releases of Adrian Wilson and Beanie Wells? Tyler Nickel: Yes, I do. It was time for Adrian Wilson to go, as his play declined pretty rapidly last season. As for Wells, he just never panned out to be that bruising runner the Cardinals were searching for. While it was sad to see A-Dub go, it was simply the best thing to do for the Cardinals. Beanie can be easily replace...

Running Back Beanie Wells Has A "Bad Wheel"

Cincy Jungle — Following his visit with the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday, former Arizona Cardinals running back Chris "Beanie" Wells dropped by Pittsburgh for a visit with the Steelers on Friday. After taking a physical in what appeared to be a likely signing, news went quiet like Jericho, Kansas. According to Gerry Dulac with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Wells isn't 100 percent. Beanie Wells has BAD wheel, source says. — Gerry Dulac (@gerrydulac) March 15, 2013 Wells, released because the Cardinals were worried about his knee (an injury that forced him to miss several games), has generated 2,47...

2013 NFL Free Agency: Steelers Bring Beanie Wells In For Physical

Cincy Jungle — The Steelers have brought former Buckeye and Cardinals free agent running back Beanie Wells to Pittsburgh for a physical, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper. More: Bengals free agency rumors The Steelers allowed their former running back, Rashard Mendenhall, to leave as a free agent, and, ironically, he was signed by the Arizona Cardinals, the team that released Wells. The Bengals had been rumored to be interested in Wells as well, but he actually makes more sense for the Steelers than he does in Cincinnati. The Bengals already have their between-the-tackles back in BenJar...

Where does Beanie Wells rank among all Cardinals busts?

Revenge Of The BirdsBeanie Wells holds the Arizona Cardinals franchise record for rushing yards in a single game, but other than that, he was largely a bust during his time in the desert. Since being drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Wells started just 23 games for the Cards. In that time, he rushed for 2,471 yards and 24 touchdowns, but he also had 10 fumbles, five of which were lost to the opposing team. Because of his fumbling and injury concerns, Wells was released by new GM Steve Keim and is free to sign with any other team. With his tenure coming to an end in Arizona, it is fair to s...

Rumor: Could Beanie Wells end up in Pittsburgh?

Behind the Steel Curtain — Cardinals, #Steelers just should have done Beanie Wells for Rashard Mendenhall trade last season and been done with it. — Alan Robinson (@arobinson_Trib) March 12, 2013 The Steelers have allegedly expressed interest in running back Beanie Wells, but might be facing competition from AFC North rival Cincinnati. Wells was selected in the first round of the 2009 draft, but never lived up to expectations in Arizona and was released yesterday after rarely being healthy. Another big, heavy back with a penchant for getting dinged up missing games seems like the last thing the Steelers nee...

Williams' future looking bright

CBSSports.com Fantasy — The Cardinals released veteran running back Beanie Wells before the start of free agency, helping pave the way for Ryan Williams to get a legitimate chance to contribute on a larger basis in 2013. Though the Cardinals are still expected to add another running back Williams has been the prized pupil of new head coach Bruce Arians thus far. In February, Arians made no qualms about Williams' athletic ability, adding he needs to stay healthy to truly make an impact. General manager Steve Keim chimed in, adding that the team is "expecting big things out of Ryan moving forward."

NFL free agency 2013: Quentin Groves drawing interest from Saints, 49ers

Revenge Of The Birds — The Arizona Cardinals, while working to retain many of their free agents, are also losing plenty of players, too. They recently cut running back Beanie Wells, cornerback William Gay and linebacker Stewart Bradley. It also appears that they will be saying goodbye to versatile back LaRod Stephens-Howling as well. Still, there are some guys that they want to keep and have engaged in contract negotiations with. One of those players is pass rushing linebacker, Quentin Groves. A source close to the situation informed me that the Cardinals are attempting to retain Groves, but will have some...

Beanie Wells reacts to being cut by Arizona Cardinals

Revenge Of The Birds — The Arizona Cardinals have cut ties with oft-injured running back Beanie Wells. The former 2009 first round pick that had all the potential of a game changing runner struggled with injuries and, towards the end if the season, found himself in the coaching staff's doghouse for fumbling in the end zone without an opposing player making contact with him and then making comments about auditioning for other teams. He had a very forgettable 2012, gaining only 234 on 88 carries (a 2.7 yard average) and played in only eight games. He was gracious when he tweeted to announce his release. Just ...

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians doesn't want to use running back committee

FFToolbox.com — The Cardinals already have Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams on the roster, and they will probably add a running back through the draft or free agency. No matter what Arizona's backfield looks like in 2013, head coach Bruce Arians wants one player he can depend on ... a lot. "Backs by committee, one of them gets hurt, you've lost half your committee or a third of your committee," Arians told the Cardinals' official website. "I like guys who can play every down." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Doesn't every coach? But some teams aren't afforded that luxury. In his past as an offensive coordinator, there have...

NFL Combine 2013: The official height and weight numbers for the running backs
