Bort, Bort, Bort, Bort

Bort, Bort, Bort, Bort

_The Vikings began their first of two joint practices with the Jacksonville Jaguars..._ *Blake Bortles* Jacksonville's quarterback Blake Bortles came to TCO looking fired up for the upcoming season. He didn't play well, and he looked particularly poor in redzone 11 versus 11 period. Bortles threw 5 interceptable balls, and Harrison Smith got his hands on two of them. The Vikings secondary made things hard for Bortles, but he made some poor decisions. *Forbath vs. Carlson* By now, the Vikings should have decided Daniel Carlson is the place kicker, and cut Forbath. On Tuesday they both...

Bortles had rough day against Vikes

Bortles had rough day against Vikes

The Jacksonville Jaguars first joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings went without any major hitches on Wednesday. No one was seriously hurt, there were no fights and both teams seemed to just put their head down and work. One potentially concerning thing however that came out of the practice was that Jaguars starting quarterback Blake Bortles had a rough practice, to put it lightly. That's it for 11-on-11 today:Bortles, 24 snaps, 4/13, INTKessler, 20 snaps, 9/11Lee, 9 snaps, 3/5#Jaguars— Phillip Heilman (@phillip_heilman) August 15, 2018 One slight correction is that Bortles...

Vikings - Jags: 8/15 Practice

Vikings - Jags: 8/15 Practice

Lots more bodies around today at TCO Performance Center for the first Vikings - Jaguars joint practice - players and media alike. The top two defenses in the National Football League were on display today, and they both took care of business. So, if you were looking for long bombs from Cousins to Diggs, you would be disappointed. Same with Bortles to whoever. Nata. Nope. Niente. I’m not sure I saw a completion more than a 5-10 yard crossing route for the Vikings first string offense, which I watched mostly, and from what I could tell, the Jaguars first offense did about the same,...

Summary of Ramsey’s opinions on NFL QBs

Summary of Ramsey’s opinions on NFL QBs

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey recently gave a lengthy interview with GQ Magazine about trash talk in the NFL. He specifically called Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen “trash” and made mention that Jaguars quarterback “playoff” Blake Bortles is good. Here’s a quick summary of Ramsey’s opinions on NFL quarterbacks if you don’t have time to read the whole Clay Skipper piece in GQ Magazine. Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield - “confident, get out the pocket, throw on the run, big plays, charisma”, thinks the Browns should have taken Lamar Jackson over...

Ramsey thinks playoff Blake is good

In a recent interview with Clay Skipper of GQ Magazine, Jalen Ramsey let loose his thoughts about NFL quarterbacks, rookies and veterans alike. He didn’t hold back on players like Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen, who Ramsey thinks is “trash”. Ramsey was also asked about the Jacksonville Jaguars own starting quarterback, Blake Bortles. “Blake do what he gotta do…. I think in crunch time moments, like last year’s playoff game—not as a team, because we would have trusted him—but I think as an organization, we should have trusted him more to keep throwing it,”...

Bortles set for big test with Vikings

Bortles set for big test with Vikings

Lost in all the suspension drama is the fact that the Jacksonville Jaguars will make the trip to Minnesota Tuesday afternoon after practice for a few days of joint work with the Minnesota Vikings. It will be a nice test of where the Jaguars, offense specifically, is at and a good test for quarterback Blake Bortles. Bortles has done a good job in training camp and the preseason so far, going against arguably the NFL’s best defense and top cornerback duo. When he sets to take snaps in drills against the Vikings, it will be a little bit more of the same. He’ll be going against another...

FILM ROOM: Blake Bortles shines in Week 1 opening drive

FILM ROOM: Blake Bortles shines in Week 1 opening drive

The Jacksonville Jaguars “lost” to the New Orleans Saints in the preseason opener. I say “lost” in quotation marks because, like I said, it’s the preseason opener. Winning and losing in these games isn’t measured by the final score, but rather individual matchups, certain situations, and (largely) how the starters played against each other in their limited snaps. Using those metrics, I think the Jaguars offense won — and no one was brighter than Blake Bortles on the opening drive when he carved up the Saints defense, going 6-for-9 (nice), including three third down...

8 players who stood out in 24-20 preseason opener loss

8 players who stood out in 24-20 preseason opener loss

The Jacksonville Jaguars looked impressive in their preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints. Even without their starting right tackle Jermey Parnell or newly signed left guard Andrew Norwell, the first string unit managed a 79-yard touchdown drive on their only possession of the game. Who stood out from that drive and for the rest of the game? 1. Blake Bortles He did it. He converted me. He’s the guy. He’s had a solid training camp, he looked good during the scrimmage, and he looked absolutely in control in the preseason opener tonight. He went 6-for-9 for 57 yards and a...

Jaguars fall to Saints in Preseason Opener Despite Impressive Showing from Bortles, Starters

The lights were on, the crowd was ready, and the starters who dressed put on a much anticipated yet brief show, as the Jacksonville Jaguars opened their 2018 preseason at TIAA Bank Field against the visiting NFC South champion New Orleans Saints. Though several anticipated starters sat out the first week of preseason play, including Calais Campbell, Taven Bryan, Jeremy Parnell, and late-scratch Andrew Norwell, the Jaguars first-team offense and defense each performed up to the high expectations that have preceded them this off-season. Quarterback Blake Bortles looked as good as he’s ever...

After a tumultuous wait for our beloved Steelers to be back, they return tonight as they face their in-state rivals. the Philadelphia Eagles. What a difference a year makes

What a difference a year makes

It’s pretty amazing how different it feels the day of the first Jacksonville Jaguars preseason game in 2018 than it did a year ago. The focus of the first preseason game last offseason was centered around quarterback Blake Bortles, and not for good reasons. Bortles had an up and down training camp, including being benched mid-practice at one point at veteran backup Chad Henne getting some time with the first team. All eyes were on Blake in an unwinnable situation. This year? There’s no question. Bortles seems to have picked up where he left off in the playoffs last season, there’s a...

Jaguars vs. Saints: TV channel, time, live stream, and more

The 2018 NFL season is upon us and the Jacksonville Jaguars will host the New Orleans Saints to kick off the preseason on Thursday, August 9th with kickoff at 7:00pm EST. Blake Bortles will be looking at continuing his solid training camp and it will be fun to watch how Andrew Norwell gels with the rest of the offensive line. Leonard Fournette will get a few reps, but his backups T.J. Yeldon and Corey Grant will get plenty of looks in the opener. On the defensive side of the ball, I hope first round pick Taven Bryan can go but that looks unlikely what with his abdominal injury. The battle...
