Brandon Fusco vs. Wes Schweitzer isn’t over yet, but it may be after the Chiefs game

Brandon Fusco vs. Wes Schweitzer isn’t over yet, but it may be after the Chiefs game

The right guard battle has been spicier than anticipated, but how long will that last? Brandon Fusco signed with the Falcons with the assumption that he would be the team’s starting right guard. That’s probably exactly where he’ll be in Week 1’s Thursday Night Football matchup against the Eagles, but say this for Wes Schweitzer: He hasn’t made it easy. Schweitzer was one of the most improved players of the summer, impressing Dan Quinn and company again and again from minicamp through training camp. He earned the starting nod at RG against the Jets and proceeded to have a game...

Could Wes Schweitzer still win the right guard spot?

Could Wes Schweitzer still win the right guard spot?

This battle really doesn’t feel as over as previously thought. It’s well-assumed by now that the Falcons will start free agent acquisition Brandon Fusco at right guard this season. But, you might want to rethink the idea that this battle is over. Incumbent starter Wes Schweitzer isn’t going down without a fight. The guard seems to be splitting time with Fusco in early training camp in running with the first team, which indicates that the Falcons are going to give the former sixth-rounder a chance to win the role. Though, that might not even be the most striking evidence. In the...

Keep an eye on UDFA running back Justin Crawford and more Falcons notes

Per the team’s correspondent William McFadden, Crawford is standing out. William McFadden is there every day for the Falcons, and on a rare day off from practice, he wrote up a long Twitter thread about some of his observations to this point. There are some gems in here about veterans like Brandon Fusco and Grady Jarrett, but there’s also some love for younger players with less established resumes, and I think one of them in particular is worth talking about today. McFadden, who must know what he’s talking about because he once worked for The Falcoholic, mentions Justin Crawford...

The Bow Tie Chronicles: Champions are made in the offseason

In the 65th episode of the Bow Tie Chronicles podcast, offensive lineman Brandon Fusco, defensive tackle Terrell McClain and wide receiver Calvin Ridley stop by to help wrap up the offseason. We asked them about the notion that champions are made in the offseason and how they felt after their first offseason with the Falcons.

The Falcons have nearly as much dead money as cap space at the moment, per The Score

No major signings coming, in other words. An exact count of the Atlanta Falcons’ cap space is not available because I don’t have the ability to look at like, their cap bank account or whatever, but we get as close as we can with publicly available figures. Per those, and specifically per a cap space update from The Score, the Falcons are sitting on about $6.71 million in cap space. If that’s relatively accurate, with all the team’s rookies locked up and free agents Brandon Fusco, Ron Parker, and Terrell McClain under contract, among others, then Atlanta’s in decent shape heading...
