The Case Against Braylon Edwards

Gang Green Nation — As we discuss free agent options for the New York Jets, fans continually mention Braylon Edwards and how the team needs to bring him back. "He's still got it!" "He can be a mentor for the rookies!" The two statements above that I listed are common refrains of those who defend Edwards and want him back. And yet, they're both misguided. Here's the argument against bringing Edwards back, because I want to bury this argument once and for all: Dwindling Talent The first, and most important, point is that Edwards is terrible at playing football. He is a shell of what he used to be before his...

Jets Rumors: Options at Wide Receiver Include Brandon Gibson, Braylon Edwards

Gang Green Nation — Brian Costello reports the Jets are looking into a couple of wide receivers. Jets have interest in Rams FA WR Brandon Gibson, according to a source #nyj Jets have also told free agent WR Braylon Edwards they have interest in re-signing him, but it sounds like they will explore options first. Presumably one of those options would be Gibson. I can't say I would be wild about signing either player. There really isn't anything that sticks out about Gibson's game that leads me to believe he will be more than the 51 catch, 691 yard guy he was this year. Edwards is a shell of the player he...

Braylon Edwards: Stay or Go?

Gang Green Nation — Of all of the things the Jets did to get themselves made fun of 2012, bringing in Braylon Edwards a week after he publicly bashed the team on Twitter was certainly one of them. The Jets brought the wide receiver who played with them in 2009 and 2010 back into the mix hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. It did not pan out. I have heard people say Braylon was effective in his short stint with the Jets. I have looked and looked, but I cannot find where the beef is to back this up. Consider this. Edwards caught a pass on 9.6% of routes he ran with the Jets in 2012. He averaged 1.18 yard...
