Kony Ealy’s time in Oakland ends before really even began

Kony Ealy’s time in Oakland ends before really even began

It was just over a week ago the Raiders signed former 2nd round pass rusher Kony Ealy to the roster as part of the attempt to replace Bruce Irvin. They also added pass rusher Jacquies Smith. Smith played in Sunday’s game against the Chargers while Ealy was inactive. Now Ealy has been waived. So, without even playing a snap, Ealy’s time in Oakland is done. A few years ago, Ealy shocked the world by putting up three sacks for the Panthers against the Broncos in the Super Bowl. He had 5.0 sacks the following season for the Panthers and was traded to the Patriots along with a third round...

Where the Atlanta Falcons stand heading into Week 10’s matchup against the Browns

Where the Atlanta Falcons stand heading into Week 10’s matchup against the Browns

The Falcons made a major addition this week, and are healthier than they were last week. Atlanta’s next matchup is Cleveland, and the Falcons are heading into this matchup facing a talented team and cold weather. They’re also in good shape, comparatively speaking, thanks to improved team health and the addition of a new pass rushing option. Roster Update The Falcons made one of their biggest moves of the season, if not the biggest, in adding Bruce Irvin. Austin Pasztor left to make room, leaving the Falcons a little lighter along the offensive line, but still with plenty of depth...

Falcons’ Bruce Irvin throws shade at Raiders after first practice with Atlanta

Earlier this week, the Atlanta Falcons added former Oakland Raiders defensive end Bruce Irvin to the mix shortly after he was released by the team. In his first practice with the Falcons, Irvin threw some shade at his former team by voicing “I’m Free, I’m Free,” according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of Atlanta Constitutional Journal. #Falcons […] The post Falcons’ Bruce Irvin throws shade at Raiders after first practice with Atlanta appeared first on ClutchPoints.

Cap Classroom: Trade deadline, waivers and the Bruce Irvin teaching moment

Cap Classroom: Trade deadline, waivers and the Bruce Irvin teaching moment

Late last Saturday afternoon on the East Coast, big news broke when it was reported that the Oakland Raiders would waive veteran linebacker Bruce Irvin. There was speculation from multiple parties that the Seattle Seahawks would be the front runner for his services if he cleared waivers, but that proved incorrect and Irvin eventually signed with his hometown Atlanta Falcons early Wednesday. I want to use this situation as a teaching point on three key points and then throw some of my own commentary in at the end for my feelings on the ineptitude of a certain front office. The points I can...

Falcons DE Bruce Irvin is completely comfortable with his complementary role

Falcons DE Bruce Irvin is completely comfortable with his complementary role

Fact: Bruce Irvin invented jumping jacks Falcons defensive end Bruce Irvin has played on a lot of football teams. He played at two high schools before beginning his collegiate career at Butler Community College. He’d continue his collegiate career at Mt. San Antonio College before spending two seasons racking up 23 sacks for West Virginia. The Seattle Seahawks selected Irvin in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Once Irvin’s rookie deal with the Seahawks was done, he landed in Oakland. And now he’s the newest member of the Falcons. In short, Irvin knows all about being the new...

Raiders hoping to get newly signed pass rushers up to speed in time for Sunday vs Chargers

They could certainly use all the help they can get. October 14. That’s the last time the Raiders had a sack in a game. It came in the third quarter of the team’s game in London against the Seahawks. It was the first of rookie Arden Key’s career. No one has had one since. When Key had that sack, I asked him what teammate Bruce Irvin said to him. Irvin heard the question and yelled across the locker room “Bout damn time!” Irvin still leads the Raiders team with 3.0 sacks. Last week he was waived and is now set to play for the Falcons this weekend. That’s the kind of turnaround the...

Falcons waive Austin Pasztor to make room for Bruce Irvin

Falcons waive Austin Pasztor to make room for Bruce Irvin

We still aren’t entirely sure why Pasztor was signed. The Atlanta Falcons made a big move earlier this week when they signed former Dan Quinn protege and pass rusher Bruce Irvin. The stars aligned after the Falcons passed on making a trade before the trade deadline, with Irvin able to play for his hometown with his former coach in Seattle for a team that could desperately use another pass rusher. It was so many common sense connections that it felt like it would never happen. I guessed the move could push Steven Means off of the roster, but the Falcons made a better move. Now that Bruce...
