Arizona Cardinals offseason: Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton passing stats and the blitz

A look at how the two Cardinals QBs fared when getting more than four rushers. In what now appears to be a yearly offseason feature, Pro Football Focus is running its series on quarterbacks and their stats in different situations. The most recent is about the blitz. Last year, I ran the same series here, focusing only on Carson Palmer, as he was the only quarterback to take a snap in 2013. This time we have both Palmer and backup Drew Stanton who got significant playing time. How did they do? First of all, opposing defenses liked blitzing the Cardinals. The league average against all QBs...

Arizona Cardinals have one of NFL's younger offenses

They have Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald, but the rest is pretty young. When you think about the Arizona Cardinals offense, two veteran players come to mind -- quarterback Carson Palmer and receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Palmer is 35 and Fitz is 31. But after those two players, the offensive side of the ball is quite young. A recent list showed the Cardinals have the 12th-youngest offensive unit, based on the projected starters they have. As an offense, they average just under 27 years old. Palmer and Fitz are the only players over 30 on the offense. Andre Ellington is 26. Michael Floyd...

Arizona Cardinals OTAs: Carson Palmer only working 7-on-7 drills, won't be fully cleared until training camp

He might get full work in mini-camp. The Arizona Cardinals began Phase 3 of offseason workouts on Tuesday with OTAs. Quarterback Carson Palmer was out on the practice field, but he was held back by head coach Bruce Arians. The only work Palmer did  on the field was throw in 7-on-7 drills -- nothing with all 11 players on both sides of the ball. When Arians spoke to the media following practice, he explained it was his decision. "We might put him back out there in mini-camp in team drills," he said. "He could go right now, but it's me being cautious." Palmer, as he said he would, lobbies...

Bengals sign Josh Shaw to rookie contract

The Bengals won't need Josh Shaw much as a rookie, but he could easily win a starting job in 2016 with several starting defensive backs possibly leaving the team in free agency. The Bengals used the 120th selection of the 2015 NFL draft to select USC cornerback Josh Shaw. Now, they've now announced Shaw has been signed to his first NFL contract. It will be a four-year deal worth about $2.7 million. Because Shaw was taken in the middle of the fourth round, he'll have a great shot at making the final 53-man roster. Teams typically don't cut fourth-round picks during their rookie year. The...

Remembering Bengals comeback over the Steelers

One of our posters dropped this in the FanShot section of the site (which we should probably promote more). Everyone is up for wrecking the Steelers. Giving some love to one of our posters in the FanShot area (that should receive more attention): The Steelers had taken a 20-9 lead with over three minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Bengals pieced together two touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, capped by a Carson Palmer four-yard touchdown throw to Andre Caldwell with 14 seconds remaining in the game.
