Carson Palmer led all quarterbacks in getting hit while throwing

That probably can't continue in 2016. The Arizona Cardinals have gotten better at pass protection over the years. In 2013, Carson Palmer was sacked 41 times. In 2014, that number went down to 28 sacks allowed. In 2015, it was 27.Obviously, pass protection was better. But it wasn't perfect and Palmer, despite a career season, could have gotten better protection. This is a stat you don't really want to see. Which QBs were hit the most when throwing last season?1. Arizona Cardinals have one of worst quarterback situations in NFL? Really...

It might make a little sense. Arizona Cardinals are happy with the quarterback position on their team right now. That is something uncommon for the history of the team. Since coming to Arizona, really only two quarterbacks have put up numbers worth a damn. One is Kurt Warner and the other is Carson Palmer, who is the starter now. (Some will try and throw in Jake Plummer because of the 1998 playoff run, but if you look at his stats, he wasn't all that good. Dynamic? Yes. Good numbers? No.) So it is reasonable to say the Cardinals are in a pretty good situation with Palmer, right? Sure, he...

Carson Palmer and the deep pass have come a long way

Palmer was one of the best throwing down the field in 2015 The Arizona Cardinals with their Bruce Arians offense try to push the ball down the field. It is not a dink and dunk passing game. It is predicated on chunk plays. They throw the ball down the field a lot. Carson Palmer has improved quite a but in three seasons in the offense. In 2013, Palmer's first year with the Cardinals, he threw for the fourth-highest total yards on deep throws with more than 1350 yards. He threw eight touchdown passes and nine interceptions for a passer rating of 77.4. That's not all that impressive. He was...

Was 2015 an outlier season for Andy Dalton?

The Red Rifle played at an MVP-caliber level in 2015. Is he capable of replicating that production in 2016 and beyond? Andy Dalton's 2015 season came out of nowhere. When the former TCU quarterback made his way to Cincinnati in the second round of the 2011 Draft, the common consensus was that he was a high floor, low ceiling prospect. And in 2013, after Dalton passed for 4,293 yards, 33 touchdowns and 20 interceptions with 7.3 yards per attempt, most people thought that would be as good as it gets. Dalton had his his perceived ceiling. The notion was backed up in 2014, when the Bengals...

Carson Palmer one of NFL's best under pressure

The talk around the Arizona Cardinals with the start of OTAs has been the pressure that starting quarterback Carson Palmer is under this season. Can he win the big game? But pressure is nothing new to Palmer. In fact, according to Pro Football Focus, Palmer was one of the league's best when under pressure. Clearly we are talking about two different types of pressure. The one everyone is talking about is the moment in big games. PFF is referring to pressure from defenders. Take a look at this stat: Most accurate QBs under pressure in 2015:1. Sam Bradford, 74.6%2. Carson Palmer, 72.2%3....

Arizona Cardinals OTAs: Carson Palmer says all the right things about winning big games

The veteran quarterback knows he has to get to the big game to win it. It is hard to shake a good narrative. And when the narrative is all about the postseason, it gets even harder because there is nothing you can do to change anything unless you get to the postseason and change it. Such is the case for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer. He has the reputation for being a guy who cannot win the big games. After a poor performance last year in Carolina, it is the looming question, even on the first day of OTAs. For now, Palmer is saying all the right things. He was a guest on...

There is pressure on Carson Palmer in 2016, but he has no trust to regain

SI's Don Banks is almost on point in this column. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer had a season to remember in 2015. Then he had a postseason to forget. After the best quarterback season the Cardinals have ever had (and that includes players like Kurt Wrner, Jim Hart and Neil Lomax), he didn't play well against the Packers and then had the famous six-turnover performance in Carolina. According to SI's Don Banks in a recent column, Palmer is under a whole lot of pressure in 2016. He is right. But this is nothing new. People have been saying this since the Cardinals' season...

University of Buffalo quarterback Joe Licata working out for Bengals

The Bengals are giving the former UB quarterback a tryout on Monday. After trying out for the Bills at their rookie mini-camp, University of Buffalo quarterback Joe Licata is reportedly working out for the Bengals on Monday, per The Buffalo News. Licata threw for 2,969 yards, 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2015 with a 62.4% completion percentage and 123.0 quarterback rating. His sophomore and junior seasons saw far more touchdowns completed with less passing attempts and yards. ...

Who is Arizona Cardinals UDFA QB Jake Coker?

Let's look at another undrafted rookie. Steadily we make our way through the undrafted rookies the Arizona Cardinals have added since the NFL Draft. We continue with a guy who will intrigue many fans, as he potentially could make the roster as the third string QB behind Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton. That guy is former Florida State and Alabama QB Jake Coker. Coker is 6-5 and 232, and was 14-0 as a starter at Alabama in 2015, leading the Crimson Tide to the CFP National Championship. Coker completed 263-of-393 passes (66.9%) for 3,110 yards, 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions last...

Tyrann Mathieu, Carson Palmer, Patrick Peterson all make PFF top 20 players

All had fantastic seasons. Pro Football Focus finished its release of the top 101 players in the NFL, based on their play and grades last season. Evan Mathis, signed by Arizona in the offseason to play right guard, and receiver Larry Fitzgerald already were revealed as the 76th and 43rd best players. The Cardinals had three more, all in the top 20. Cornerback Patrick Peterson came in 19th, quarterback Carson Palmer came in 15th and safety Tyrann Mathieu was 10th. This was written of Peterson: Finally at full health, Patrick Peterson had arguably his best season as a pro for the Cardinals,...

Bengals 2016 Roster Reset: State of the quarterbacks

The Bengals remained faithful to Andy Dalton through the highs and lows of his first four seasons. They were finally rewarded as he became one of the NFL's best passers in 2015 and showed he can be the franchise QB they need him to be. It's not often an NFL franchise is fortunate enough to go from one franchise quarterback to another franchise quarterback without any setbacks in between. That's exactly what the Bengals were able to do in the 2011 offseason when Carson Palmer suddenly retired was traded, leaving the franchise in a state of uncertainty, doubt and hopelessness. But ever since...

Arizona Cardinals believed Paxton Lynch was 'potentially a franchise quarterback'

There were conversations about him being their pick. There was talk leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft about whether the Arizona Cardinals would draft a quarterback, looking ahead to the time after Carson Palmer retires or is no longer with the team. Ultimately they did not, but they were prepared to. In fact, general manager Steve Keim told Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd the team considered taking Memphis QB Paxton Lynch in the first round. He never made it to the 29th pick, as the Denver Broncos traded up to acquire him. But Lynch was a possibility. "Paxton Lynch was certainly in the...

Leon Hall set to visit Giants as Bengals appear to have moved on

The Bengals' lack of interest in Leon Hall may open the door for a team like the Giants to sign him to a rather cheap deal in free agency now that the NFL Draft has passed. It's looking more and more like Leon Hall will not be re-signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. That was essentially assured when the Bengals spent a first-round pick on Houston corner William Jackson. That leaves the Bengals with a cornerback unit so deep Hall would actually end up being the sixth-best corner on the roster if he were to re-sign. That's probably something Hall isn't interested in, but the New York...
